My friend very kindly tested the JOVS Venus Pro II for this review.
She is a light-skinned but (incredibly) dark- and coarse-haired woman who has always struggled with painful ingrown hairs and speedy hair regrowth. She’s previously always epilated both her legs and armpits, as shaving alone leaves her skin very irritated, and the hair grows back too quickly for her to be able to maintain.
She was a perfect candidate for the IPL device due to the criteria and was eager to see if a more permanent hair removal treatment would work for her.

The JOVS Venus Pro II is a hair removal device that’s designed to be fast, comfortable, and convenient. It’s suitable for use by both males and females.
It offers 6 different modes: face, arms, underarms, legs, bikini line, and skin rejuvenation. There are 6 different intensity levels, with 1 being the lowest and 6 being the highest.
The device features an in-built sapphire skin cooling system. This maintains a constant temperature of 5°C for a comfortable cool sensation that claims to deliver a pain-free treatment.
The device features a 330° rotating head and 0.7 flash burst to remove body hair in 7 minutes or less. It’s designed to be lightweight, comfortable, and easy to hold, with an ergonomic l-shaped design.
The device claims to deliver visible results in as little as 4 weeks. Although, JOVS states that most people will achieve their desired results after 8 weeks.
Here’s what JOVS says about the technology behind the Venus Pro II:
Multi-frequency continuous pulse technology (MFCPT) renders obsolete traditional IPL technology. The light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft and is transformed into heat. This heat destroys the hair so it won’t grow back, while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.
OPT continuous pulse technology: traditional wide spectrum of light pulse is upgraded to narrow spectrum. The efficiency is increased by 60% compared with other IPL hair removal devices, which reduces the treatment cycle and improve the hair removal result at the same time.

What’s inside the box
The box comes with the JOVS Venus Pro II device, safety goggles, a user manual, razor, and US plug. You can also buy a JOVS adapter plug. However, depending on the country, JOVS will provide the corresponding conversion plug, with no additional purchase required. My friend got the US to UK adapter.

How to use the JOVS Venus Pro II
The JOVS Venus Pro II is straightforward to use. Follow the simple steps below:
- Shave the hair in the areas you want to remove hair before using the device.
- Plug in the device and turn it on.
- Select the mode and intensity level.
- Automatically start the cooling mode.
- Put the goggles on, place the device vertically on the skin, and press the button to begin the treatment on your desired area.
- When the treatment has finished, use the skin rejuvenation mode to restore smoothness.

The before pictures are what my friend’s legs were like before ever using the device. The after pictures are from using the device consistently for 3 months before having to shave again for her next session.
From the photos, you can see that the hair growth has visibly reduced, both in terms of the number of hairs on the legs and how thick the hair is.

The below review is my friend’s honest wording and experience of using the JOVS Venus Pro II consistently for almost 4 months.
First impressions
Upon first impressions, I thought that the device itself was absolutely beautiful with great packaging. I loved the forest green colour, and the device is both sleek and stylish. The device came with very clear instructions and appeared basic enough for first-time use.
My one huge positive takeaway was that the instruction manual was incredibly transparent about the potential for the product to not work. It also offered extensive guidance on what to do if the product fails or if you experience any difficulties/abnormalities using it. This reassured me a lot, as I didn’t know a lot about using this kind of product and was quite hesitant about using for the first time.
Usage
Before first use, I fully exfoliated, cleansed, and shaved (with the razor provided) all the areas that I wanted to test. I was careful to ensure that the areas were fully dry so that the device would be as effective as possible.
It’s incredibly easy to switch settings for each area of treatment, so I adjusted these accordingly to match which areas I was tackling at the time. I decided to just focus on my legs and armpits – these are my problem areas if you will, so I prioritised these for this reason.
It’s also incredibly important to wear the protective glasses provided with the device whilst using it. Even whilst wearing them, the light emitted was sometimes very bright, and so I was careful to use the device as flush with my skin as possible to prevent seeing the flashes.
A disappointing factor is that the device isn’t portable and has to be connected to a plug socket at all times, but this didn’t actually interfere with my usage of the device as much as I thought it would. (JOVS also has a Mini Wireless IPL Hair Removal Device, which is a convenient wireless device. But it’s not as powerful as the Venus Pro II).
As recommended, I tested an area before fully using the device and also then started off on the lowest setting for my whole treatment. Although it’s advised to up the levels based on your pain tolerance and hair type, I kept it low for my first use.
I was incredibly surprised at how light and easy to use the device was. Due to the rotating head, it was super easy to get to those harder-to-reach areas. It only took me around 15 minutes to finish using the device on both my armpits and entire lower legs. I enjoyed being able to activate the auto mode by holding down the lightning bolt button for 3 seconds; this mode saved me a lot of time and also made the device slightly easier to use over larger areas.
Now onto what you’ve all been waiting for… THE PAIN.
I was pleasantly surprised at how painless the device was to use. I found that my armpits were the most sensitive area to treat, but the pain was little more than a slight shock! I actually found that the heat from the device was slightly more uncomfortable than any other reaction I experienced, but it was only ever that: uncomfortable.
To lessen the discomfort, the device has an automatic cooling mode setting (this can be turned off if the user finds it too cool), which helps lessen the burning sensation. I also found that the zaps actually lessened the more that I used the device and upped the intensity levels, presumably because of me getting used to the sensation.
The verdict
I’ll start with the cons, as there really weren’t many!
Firstly, this is a product that you really have to plan in time out of your day to use. I really struggled to see noticeable results for a good few months of using the device at first because I just wasn’t using it consistently enough.
When following the recommended guidance, the device really is a commitment in the first few weeks, as it should be used around 3-4 times per week! I didn’t help with this one, as I decided to start using it a month before going on holiday and therefore had to stop using it because of the harmful additional UV exposure.
Overall, you do have to wait a little while to see a noticeable change, and if you’re impatient (like me) then it can get quite frustrating to wait around to hope for a difference in your hair regrowth.
Secondly, I’ve used the device consistently for nearly 4 months now and I’m still yet to notice any considerable difference in my armpit hair. My hair is incredibly coarse, so even with the sharpest and cleanest of shaves, I felt like I wasn’t getting an effective enough foundation for the device usage. Whether this is the cause or not is unconfirmed, but I’ll be sticking to epilation for my armpits due to my hair regrowth still being too quick for my liking.
Onto the pros…
I would entirely recommend this device overall, as I’ve seen noticeable and impressive results on an area that I didn’t expect to – my irritated legs! Would I continue to use this device? Absolutely! With the heavy caveat that around holiday times I would have to shave again a bit more due to not being able to use the device around times that my skin is directly exposed to sunlight.
Particularly for people with darker hair that is not as thick, this would absolutely work! A bit more perseverance would be needed for those thicker areas, but if you’re willing to wait to see results then it can absolutely be worth it.
My legs, once dry and irritated from repeated hair growth, are now so much smoother and less itchy. The hair on my legs grows back incredibly slowly now and, in some areas, has stopped growing back altogether, which I’m mega happy with!
The hair is also definitely much finer now, meaning that I now rarely get ingrown hairs, and I’m getting far less irritation as a result of this. I couldn’t be happier with this progress and it’s an incredibly low effort to maintain now, as I’m only having to use the device as a top-up when necessary.

Is the JOVS Venus Pro II worth buying?
The JOVS Venus Pro II is an effective hair removal device that’s worth the investment. It may take longer than the 8-week claim to see visible results when it comes to reducing or stopping hair growth, but, with some perseverance, this is a great and low-maintenance way of removing unwanted hair and having smooth skin all at the same time!
