For today’s post, I’m super excited to share my thoughts on the Makeup Revolution x Soph collection.
Makeup Revolution has been killing the makeup game over the last few years, bringing out consistently high-quality products for affordable prices. The Revolution x Soph collection was extremely popular and received a lot of praise across the internet, so I wanted to check it out for myself.
The Revolution x Soph collection consists of two eyeshadow palettes, three lipsticks and one highlighter palette. I opted for the highlighter palette, the Extra Spice eyeshadow palette and the lipstick in the shade Syrup.
I really like Makeup Revolution’s standpoint in the makeup market because it creates products that people on a budget can purchase while still being high-quality. I’m always happy to support the brand.
So, let’s dive into my thoughts on the collection.
First thoughts on the collection
One thing I love about the Revolution x Soph collection is that there’s continuity across all of the packaging. The rose gold of the eyeshadow palette matches the lid of the lipstick and the colour of the highlighter palette matches the bottom part of the lipstick.
I love a cohesive theme and branding, so bonus points to Soph and Makeup Revolution there.
At first glance, I liked the look of the highlighter palette, Extra Spice palette and the lipstick. The tones and colours are wearable, fun and varied, so I couldn’t wait to play around with them.
Highlighter palette
What a varied highlighter palette! There’s something to suit all skin tones here, from lighter shades to darker shades, and from cooler tones to warmer tones.
I prefer warmer tones, like bronzes and golds, so the pinks and purples in the Revolution x Soph highlighter palette aren’t colours I’d wear on my skin. However, I’d definitely use the colours as eyeshadow toppers, so I can easily make use of them.
Something I need to point out as well is that the highlighter palette is £8. As there are 8 shades within the palette, this means that the cost per shade is £1. And the pans are big! This price point is incredible, so even if you don’t use every colour in the palette, you’re hardly losing out.
After falling in love with the highlighters – from an affordability and shade range point of view – I went on to swatch each shade:
I was so impressed with the swatches. The colour payoff was fab and the colours were shimmering but still beautifully soft. They also felt really soft to the touch and glided over my skin with ease.
Sure, they’re not the most blinding highlighters I’ve ever tried, but for £8, they’re exceptional!
I’m also pleased to say that the highlighters perform just as well on my face as they do on my skin. But I’ll show you a look incorporating all of the makeup products in the Revolution x Soph collection later on in this post.
Nude lipstick in Syrup
Out of the three nude lipsticks in the Revolution x Soph collection, I opted for the shade Syrup, which is a beautiful, rich and neutral brown shade. I love a nude lipstick and felt as though this warm brown shade would add to my collection.
It also has a creamy satin finish. I normally opt for matte lipsticks, so I don’t have many satin lipsticks in my collection at all. This helped me justify buying the product.
Not that it needed much justification as it’s £4. It’s so cheap and Revolution often does sales, so at the time of writing this post, the Syrup lipstick is £2 – what a steal!
This is how it looks on:
I love this shade and the satin finish as it looks really natural on my skin.
My only criticism of the lipstick, though, is that it does wear off pretty quickly. I’d say this more of a common issue with satin lipsticks anyway because I’ve always found matte lipsticks more long-lasting. However, I still wish the Revolution x Soph lipstick would stay on a little longer.
But is that enough of a pitfall to not purchase the lipstick? Absolutely not. It’s £4.
Extra Spice eyeshadow palette
Now time for the eyeshadow palette that had the beauty community shook – the Revolution x Soph Extra Spice palette.
The reason everyone fell in love with this eyeshadow palette is that it has a fantastic range of colours, is ridiculously cheap (again) and has wonderful pigmentation.
I used the Extra Spice palette to create my everyday makeup look on the blog recently, which you guys liked. You can easily build and blend the shades out to the desired effect to make your eyeshadow as bold and vibrant as you want.
There are a few shades I’ve tried that don’t have great pigmentation or can be a little patchy, such as ‘Lakes’, but even then they’re not bad. They could just be a little better. But the rest of the eyeshadows are immense.
I particularly love the yellows and oranges in this palette – they really stand out to me. But I love the fact Extra Spice incorporates some cooler tones too. The silver shimmer ‘Infinity’ at the top of the palette is beautiful and isn’t a shade I see in many eyeshadow palettes either – good work Soph!
The eyeshadows also last on your eyes all day. In terms of their longevity, the colours are comparable with Morphe. They don’t fade away throughout the day and remain vibrant and colourful.
But the best part about the Extra Spice palette is the price. I still can’t get over the fact that it’s £10. For the quality of the eyeshadows, Makeup Revolution and Soph could’ve easily justified double, if not triple the price.
It’s just a really stunning palette and I’m so happy I own it.
The look
So, to showcase the Makeup Revolution x Soph collection in action, I have created a makeup look incorporating all three products.
For the eyeshadow, I followed a tutorial by Rachel Leary, who created a stunning sunset-inspired look. I fell in love with it and couldn’t wait to try it out on myself!
Here’s her tutorial:
Granted, mine turned out nowhere near as good as hers, but I was still really happy with the eyeshadow look I created.
Here’s how my Makeup Revolution x Soph makeup look tuned out:
I am obsessed with these beautiful warm tones. They remind me of autumn and they’re definitely my go-to shades at the moment and I just can’t get enough of them!
I just need to work on defining different eyeshadows more and knowing how much to blend out each shade.
Nonetheless, I’m so happy with how the eyeshadows from the Extra Spice palette turned out!
You already know I love the Syrup lipstick as well.
For the highlighter shade, I went in with the third shade from the left on the top row which is a lovely gold shimmer.
It looks like this on the skin:
Like I mentioned before, it’s not the most blinding highlighter I’ve ever used, but it did add a soft glow to my skin. I actually like this, though, as it’s more natural than some of my other highlighters which can be a bit like BAM in your face.
The highlighter palette is more understated and perfect for a daytime look. It does wear off faster than some of the other highlighters in my collection but still adds a beautiful glow throughout most of the day.
All in all, I was pleased with the makeup look I created and was even happier with how all of the products performed.
Where to buy
This collection has been discontinued and is no longer available to purchase.
Final thoughts
Fabulous collection for a fabulous price. All of the products are 100% worth the money and will make a lovely addition to your makeup collection.
I’m over the moon with the collection and the prices are so reasonable that it makes Makeup Revolution a real threat in the makeup game.
Rating: 4.5 stars

This is the smart way to apply make up. You do a great job on making it look flawless. I will recommend you to my friends. I like how you figure out a way to make it look natural, just a way to accentuate your natural beauty.
Thank you! I love the bright and bold looks makeup artists create but sometimes they swamp me, so I try to find a balance most of the time 🙂
This is such a great and in-depth post and review of this collection which would be so useful for so many people who are deciding whether to buy this launch or not. The look you created is so gorgeous by the way! I own the highlighter palette and adore it! I’ve used the entire pan of the white shade and almost hitting pan on the top row shades. I loved this post!
