Disclaimer: Avant Skincare gifted me these products for review purposes, but all of my opinions remain unbiased and honest

In this blog post, I’m going to be reviewing a night-time serum and facial oil from luxurious skincare brand Avant Skincare.

When Avant Skincare reached out and asked if I’d like to try a couple of its products, I was beyond excited. This high-end skincare brand with a cult-like following has always caught my attention. I wanted to see if the products would live up to my high expectations.

I opted for the Marvellous Nocturnal Resurfacing Hyaluronic Facial Serum and the Advanced Bio Restorative Superfood Facial Oil. Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good facial oil and serum, and hyaluronic acid is one of my favourite skincare ingredients. But, there’s no denying that Avant Skincare products are expensive. So are these luxurious skincare products worth their expensive price tag or are you better off shopping elsewhere? I delve into my honest review below.

Marvellous Nocturnal Resurfacing Hyaluronic Facial Serum

£94

Product claims

The Marvellous Nocturnal Resurfacing Hyaluronic Facial Serum promises to nourish the skin and instantly improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This night-time serum claims to be lightweight and fast-absorbing to address multiple signs of anti-ageing. It also aims to significantly re-establish volume, visibly plump and re-contour for firmer skin with increased resilience. Avant Skincare says this hyaluronic serum will refine rough, bumpy texture, brighten tone and unclog pores as well.

Key ingredients

The top 5 ingredients listed in the Marvellous Nocturnal Resurfacing Hyaluronic Facial Serum are:

  • Butylene glycol: texture enhancer
  • Ammonium acryloyl dimethyltaurate: thickening agent
  • Hydrolyzed jojoba esters: essential fatty acids from the jojoba plant, broken down by water to form a new complex with properties different from the original source. Acts as a skin-softener
  • Betaine: works to balance the skin’s hydration
  • Sodium polyacrylate: helps thicken cosmetics and acts as an emollient (softens and soothes the skin)

It’s good to see some hydrating, nourishing and softening ingredients high up on the INCI list.

See the full ingredients list below:

aqua (water), butylene glycol, ammonium acryloyl dimethyltaurate/carboxyethyl acrylate crosspolymer, hydrolyzed jojoba esters, betaine, sodium polyacrylate, parfum (fragrance), phenoxyethanol, aminobutyric acid, mica (ci 77019), ci 77891 (titanium dioxide), tropolone, sodium hyaluronate, disodium edta, glycerin, tin oxide, caprylyl glycol, acetyl hexapeptide-8, pentapeptide-18, citric acid

My thoughts

Firstly, how gorgeous is the packaging? It screams high-end, sophisticated and expensive. This serum looks brilliant on my skincare shelf and I like the minimalist vibe.

The Marvellous Nocturnal Resurfacing Hyaluronic Facial Serum has a fairly thick and somewhat milky texture. It’s not runny at all. I find that it absorbs quickly into the skin and is almost undetectable once applied.

In terms of anti-ageing benefits, I don’t feel I’m best placed to judge this. While I do think this serum makes my skin feel firmer and plumper, I don’t really have wrinkles or fine lines, so I can’t comment on how effective this serum is at targeting those areas.

What I do find, however, is that this serum adds hydration to the skin. My skin feels more nourished and smoother after I’ve applied it. Honestly, though, NIOD’s Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex MMHC2 is the best hyaluronic serum I’ve tried. The NIOD serum is more hydrating, in my experience. It’s also more than half the price of this Avant Skincare serum at £38 for the same volume of product (30ml).

So far, I haven’t noticed any improvements in skin tone or brightness since using this serum, which has been for around 2 weeks.

Rating: 4 stars

Overall, I think this serum makes my skin feel firmer, plumper and more hydrated but I’ve tried more affordable and better hydrating serums in the past.

Key ingredients

The top 5 ingredients listed in the Advanced Bio Restorative Superfood Facial Oil are:

  • Ethylhexyl stearate: an emollient
  • Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil (sweet almond oil): an emollient
  • Vitis vinifera seed oil (grapeseed oil): an emollient with strong antioxidant properties. It has a thinner and less greasy texture compared to other oils, such as coconut oil
  • Persea gratissima oil (avocado oil): an excellent source of skin-replenishing fatty acids, which work on the skin’s surface to preserve moisture and prevent water loss that can lead to signs of dehydrated skin. It also has strong antioxidant properties and can make the skin feel softer, smoother and calmer
  • Helianthus Annuus seed oil (sunflower seed oil): helps replenish, strengthen, and soothe skin

What a brilliant list of top 5 ingredients. It’s great to see so many nourishing, soothing and replenishing oils high up on the INCI list.

See the full ingredients list below:

Ethylhexyl stearate, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, Vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, Persea gratissima (avocado) oil, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) seed oil, dicaprylyl carbonate, phenoxyethyl caprylate, Triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, Argania spinosa (argan) kernel oil, Carica papaya (papaya) fruit extract, tocopherol, propylene glycol, aqua (water), sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, phenoxyethanol

My thoughts

Out of the 2 Avant Skincare products I was gifted, the Advanced Bio Restorative Superfood Facial Oil is definitely my favourite. This facial oil is fantastic.

As soon as I applied this oil to my skin, I knew I’d love it. It doesn’t feel sticky, greasy or heavy on the skin, which means it’s comfortable to wear. It has quite a silky feel to it and, once applied, makes my skin feels instantly softer and more hydrated.

I fully agree with Avant Skincare that this facial oil visibly restores your skin. I immediately notice that my skin feels calmer and looks healthier once I’ve used. This product also plays well with the rest of my skincare routine – I’ve been using it at night-time – and it doesn’t cause any pilling. This is ideal for when you’re wearing makeup as it helps create a smooth canvas.

Actually, this is one of my favourite facial oils ever. My skin loves it. People with oilier skin would enjoy this product as it has a much more lightweight texture compared to other oils I’ve tried.

Rating: 5 stars

I’d happily purchase the Advanced Bio Restorative Superfood Facial Oil with my own money.

Overall thoughts on Avant Skincare

Avant Skincare aesthetic image

I’m pleased with the Avant Skincare products I was gifted. While the hyaluronic night serum didn’t blow me away, I’ve fallen in love with the superfood facial oil.

Yes, these products are pricey. However, if you’re going to drop a load of money on skincare, you’re always best investing in a serum, retinol or facial oil – the targeted treatments. I probably wouldn’t purchase the hyaluronic night serum with my own money but I would 100% invest in the facial oil in the future. Sometimes, you’ve just got to splurge for the really good stuff.
