I love aromatherapy products. They lift my mood, make my home smell fantastic, and are a simple yet effective form of self-care.
I’d never heard of shower steamers before my brother-in-law’s mum and stepdad kindly bought me some SWCandy Shower Steamers to try. I was intrigued by the idea of an aromatherapy tablet that dissolves in the shower, releasing its fragrance as you wash.
But do shower steamers actually work, and are they worth buying? Here’s my honest experience using SWCandy’s Shower Steamers, including which scents stood out to me.

What are shower steamers?
Shower steamers are small aromatherapy tablets that melt in the shower while filling the room with an uplifting, invigorating, or relaxing scent. They’re typically filled with essential oils that release when they come into contact with water. Think of them as a bath bomb but for your shower.
How to use shower steamers
Using shower steamers couldn’t be easier. Remove the packaging, place a tablet on the shower floor away from the direct stream of water, and let the water and steam gradually dissolve it, releasing its fragrance.
Placing the steamer directly underneath the shower head will make it dissolve faster, so keeping it slightly out of the way can help the scent last longer.

I tried the 8-piece SWCandy Shower Steamers set, which contains 8 different scents designed to evoke different moods and create a spa-like experience at home.
According to SWCandy, here’s what each tablet is designed to do:

- Coconut and mint: intended to relieve stress
- Rosemary: intended to soothe nerves
- Mint and lavender: intended to promote sleep
- Mint and eucalyptus: intended to feel cooling and boost mood
- Eucalyptus: intended to boost mood
- Lemon and mint: intended to feel cooling and refreshing
- Sandalwood: intended to improve immunity
Each steamer claims to be long-lasting and easy to use, without leaving any stains in your shower.
Honest SWCandy review
I found the SWCandy Shower Steamers easy to use, and they added a lovely fragrance to my showers without any extra hassle.
The steamers are incredibly easy to use and don’t leave stains or slippery residue in my shower, making them a hassle-free addition to my routine. Their soft, crumbly texture also means they dissolve easily, as you can see in the image below.

The main drawback is that the strength of the fragrance varies considerably between scents. Of the ones I’ve tried, lemon and mint was by far the most potent, filling my bathroom with a strong, refreshing aroma that lingered briefly after the tablet had dissolved. Eucalyptus, on the other hand, was much weaker and barely noticeable.
I particularly enjoyed the lemon and mint steamer because it felt invigorating and refreshing in the shower. I haven’t tried the other scents yet, but I’m looking forward to trying lavender and coconut and mint, as I love both fragrances.
I’m also sceptical about some of SWCandy’s claims regarding the benefits of its essential oil steamers. For example, the brand says that sandalwood improves immunity and rosemary soothes nerves. I have a hard time believing that a simple aromatherapy tablet can deliver these sorts of health benefits.
For me, the real appeal is much simpler: the steamers make my shower smell lovely and can create a more relaxing, invigorating, or refreshing experience, depending on the scent.
Final verdict: Do shower steamers actually work?

If you enjoy aromatherapy and want to make your showers feel a little more indulgent, I’d recommend the SWCandy Shower Steamers. The 8-piece set costs £16.99 and offers a convenient way to enjoy different fragrances, whether you prefer something refreshing or more calming.
However, the strength of the scents varies, and I wouldn’t buy them expecting the health benefits claimed by the brand. For me, their appeal is in the fragrance rather than any therapeutic effects.
Rating: 4 stars
Overall, I think the SWCandy Shower Steamers work well as an aromatherapy product, although I’d have liked the weaker scents to be more noticeable. They’re a lovely little addition to my shower routine and would make a thoughtful gift for someone who enjoys fragranced self-care products.
