About the TYMO Rovy Compact
The TYMO Rovy Compact is a mermaid hair waver that delivers deep, bouncy waves. It has a 1-inch barrel that’s designed for short- to mid-length hair. Waves are delivered in just one clamp, so it’s not fiddly or tricky to use. This is a corded device and is not battery-operated.
The mermaid hair waver comes with 4 different timer settings: 4, 6, 8, and 10 seconds. There are also 9 different temperature settings, ranging from 140°C (280°F) to 220°C (430°F).
The device is lightweight at just 325g. The waver claims to make hair shiny, frizz-free, and without damage. It has an anti-scald design, as the outside of the waver doesn’t get overly hot.
The TYMO Rovy Compact costs £56.80. Shipping is available worldwide.

How to use the TYMO Rovy Compact
Using the TYMO Rovy Compact is straightforward. Simply follow the steps below:
- Wash and thoroughly dry hair. Avoid using any other products in your hair besides a heat protectant for optimal results.
- There’s a locking mechanism at the bottom of the waver. Before turning on the device, rotate the lock to the left to unlock it.
- Once plugged in, the LED will display “OFF” with a flashing light. Press the power button for 2 seconds to start the device.
- Use the plus or minus buttons on the device to choose your desired temperature. Once set, the device will heat to the specified temperature. You can also press and hold both the plus and minus buttons for 2 seconds to transfer between °F and °C temperature displays.
- Press the timer button repeatedly until you reach your desired time. You can also press and hold this button for 2 seconds to turn the timer reminder function on or off.
- Once the temperature and timer have been set, start with a 2-inch section of hair and place it in between the barrels.
- Start at your scalp and move down the length of your hair in overlapping sections until it’s all been waved. If you’ve turned the timer reminder function on, the waver will beep once the timer has finished indicating to move the next section of hair.

Honest TYMO Rovy Compact review
Below, I share my honest experience and review of using the TYMO Rovy Compact, including the look of the packaging, ease of use, how the waves turned out, and how long the mermaid waves lasted.
Packaging and device appearance
Firstly, I think the TYMO Rovy Compact is so cute. I love the baby pink colour and think the device looks sleek and modern. The device comes with an instruction manual that’s not lengthy or tedious. It’s refreshingly easy to follow.
The cord for the device is also long enough that you won’t encounter issues with having to sit in a really specific place. I’ve used plenty of devices where the wire isn’t long enough, so it’s inconvenient as it limits where you can use the device. The length of this wire is more than ample.
My device came with a US plug. This was easily fixable with a US-to-UK plug adapter. The TYMO website allows you to select what plug you need, and a UK plug is available.
How easy the device is to use on mid-length straight hair
I set the temperature to 170°C and the timer to 8 seconds. My hair is shoulder-length, sleek, and very straight. From start to finish, it took me around an hour to wave my hair.
I found the device very easy to use. It’s certainly beginner-friendly. Putting sections of hair into the barrel is straightforward. The device clamps hair, then it beeps once the timer has gone off, and you simply move the barrel down your hair to wave the next section.
The only part of my hair I struggled with was the back. As the strands weren’t long enough to pull around to the side for me to see them, I needed an extra hand there, as I physically couldn’t reach/see them. However, I’d encounter that same issue with any hair waver or curler, and it wasn’t a big deal.
Importantly, the device is lightweight, so I didn’t get armache from holding it in various positions.
I think I could do my hair in around 30 minutes in the future as I’m familiar with the device now. I’d probably also increase the temperature so that I could put bigger sections of hair into the barrel. At 170°C, I was putting somewhat small sections of hair into the waver – around 1-inch sections – so a hotter temperature would allow me to put larger sections of hair into the barrel and speed up the waving process.
How the mermaid waves look
Here’s how the mermaid waves turned out:

I’m so happy with how the mermaid waves turned out!
I think they look really nice and give my hair lots of volume and body. This style makes my hair look thick and full. I’m also thrilled that the mermaid waves suit my shoulder-length hair. I can’t wait to wear this style on date nights, evenings out, or for a playful summer style.
Longevity of the mermaid waves
My hair is notorious for not taking to waves or curlers particularly well. And when devices do curl or wave my hair well, the effect usually doesn’t last long.
The TYMO Rovy Compact mermaid waves lasted well for around 2 hours but started dropping after this point. Within 6 hours, the waves had dropped massively, and after 10 hours only a very slight wave was left in my hair.
I think at a hotter temperature, the waves would’ve lasted longer. However, because my hair is so straight and sleek, a drop in the waves is to be expected. This doesn’t bother me, as I still think a light wave in my hair looks nice.
Rating: 5 stars
Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed with the TYMO Rovy Compact. The device is easy to use and delivers effortless and beautiful mermaid waves. I 100% think this mermaid waver is worth £56.80 and would highly recommend this device to anyone who wants fun, bouncy, and voluminous waves.
