Rhode is one of the most popular makeup and skincare brands on the market. Perfect for that minimal clean girl aesthetic, Rhode is known for dewy, multi-tasking, and hydrating formulas. Every time Rhode launches a new product, you can expect it to go viral on social media.

But with all of the hype surrounding Rhode, is the brand actually worth the money, or are there better products out there?

In this review, I share my honest experience of using Rhode, which products are worth it, the products you can skip, and my overall verdict of the brand.

About Rhode

Founded by Hailey Bieber, Rhode began as a skincare brand back in 2022, with a focus on barrier-strengthening, effective, and nourishing formulas. Since then, Rhode has expanded into makeup products, all centred around multi-purpose, natural, and glowy formulas. Rhode is vegan, cruelty-free, fragrance-free, and gluten-free.

How I tested Rhode

I’ve tested these Rhode products for a minimum of 1 month, with some of the products for multiple months. Some of the products in this post are ones I purchased a few years ago and have finished.

While testing these products, my criteria are performance, formula, value, whether it meets its claims, whether a similar product is better, and whether I’d repurchase. I’ve got combination skin with rosacea. My usual preference for skincare products is gentle, hydrating, and dewy formulas. For makeup products, I usually opt for medium coverage, easy-to-blend and buildable formulas, and satin finishes.

Which products have I tried?

I’ve tried the following 10 Rhode products:

Below, I’m going to share my honest thoughts on each product before moving on to an overall brand review.

Rhode products review

1. Rhode Highlight Milk

The Rhode Highlight Milk is a hybrid makeup-skincare formula, combining the hydrating and soothing benefits of a skincare product with the soft, pearly shimmer of a makeup product. It’s a new launch from Rhode, comes in 4 shades, and claims to be lightweight. The Highlight Milk can be used on the face and body. You can wear it by itself or mixed into makeup for added radiance.

I absolutely love the Highlight Milk.

This has a runny, non-sticky, and fluid formula. If you’ve ever tried a milky toner, it feels just like that! The consistency is pretty much the same as Rhode’s Glazing Milk.

The Highlight Milk melts into the skin seamlessly. It layers on top of skincare products or mixes with makeup products without pilling or looking streaky. Instead, it gives your skin a soft, natural, and lit-from-within luminosity. It also makes your skin look amazing in photos, as the dewyness shines through on camera. I particularly love mixing the Highlight Milk in with my foundation or skin tint to add some glow to my base.

I’ve got the shade 02 Pearly Champagne, which sits on a sheer milky base. This looks gorgeous by itself, as the sheerness of the base means it blends in seamlessly with my skin tone without me looking like an oily, glittery mess. The Highlight Milk is also wonderfully nourishing and makes my skin feel soft and smooth.

I love how versatile this formula is, as you can use it as a skincare product or a makeup product, and it performs equally well in both areas.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

The Highlight Milk has become one of my favourite glowy complexion products. It meets all of its claims, and I think the formula justifies the price.

2. Rhode Pocket Bronze

The Rhode Pocket Bronze is a cream bronzer stick that comes in 8 shades, from fair to deep complexions. It claims to be hydrating, buildable, and easy to blend, delivering a seamless and long-lasting bronze to your skin. The formula promises to be non-sticky and smoothing for added warmth.

I like the Rhode Pocket Bronze, but it’s not my favourite bronzer.

What I like is that the formula is smooth, moisturising, and buildable. It has a satin finish and looks soft on the skin. If you like natural-looking bronzer, this is a great pick, as it’s not crazy pigmented and can easily be diffused. I also agree that it’s not greasy, as it feels very light on the skin.

However, I don’t agree that this is long-lasting. I find that it wears off quite significantly throughout the day. After 8+ hours, a lot of the colour has faded.

I also find this formula to be a bit too creamy for my preference. It blends into nothingness quickly, even with a light hand. As this bronze has a lot of slip, it’s hard to get a precise, sculpted application, as gentle blending just diffuses the colour too much.

The shade Sip is pretty and is a good match for my complexion.

Rating: 4 stars

Would I repurchase? No.

While this is a nice, hydrating, and natural bronzer, I wouldn’t bother repurchasing it, as I have other bronzers in my collection that perform better. The Rare Beauty Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer is a better alternative, as it’s still smooth and creamy, but it has more lasting powder, doesn’t slip around as much, and you can get a more defined look through precise application.

3. Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment

The Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment claims to nourish and replenish the lips while leaving a glossy, high-shine finish. Available in 5 different scents, including unscented, the lip treatment promises to leave lips soft, visibly plump, and smooth. You can use the lip balm day and night.

I got the Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment in the scent Salted Caramel a few years ago, and it smelled amazing. It was sweet, tasted delicious, and was honestly addictive to apply.

This lip balm is good for everyday use, as it’s hydrating, gives lips a juicy shine, and leaves my lips feeling soft and smooth. However, the formula is fairly sticky, and I’ve used lip balms at a similar price point that are more restorative, conditioning, and soothing.

For example, the Dr. Idriss Barrier Baste Lip Baste costs £4 for the same amount of product, but it’s considerably more nourishing, repairing, and soothing. It’s a gloopier and stickier formula than Rhode, so it’s more suitable for nighttime use, but it does a better job of moisturising and relieving lips.

Would I repurchase? Maybe.

I like Rhode’s lip treatment, so I’d be happy to use it again, but I’d probably opt for a different lip balm instead that’s more effective.

4. Rhode Pineapple Refresh

The Rhode Pineapple Refresh claims to be a gentle balm-to-lather daily cleanser that removes SPF and makeup while leaving skin clean, soft, and hydrated post-rinse. It promises not to leave skin tight, stripped, or dry, and it can be used in the morning or evening as a first or second cleanse.

This is a decent, basic cleanser. It contains pineapple enzyme for exfoliation that’s gentle enough to be used every day. It’s never aggravated my rosacea or compromised my skin barrier. After using this cleanser, my skin feels clean, fresh, and smooth.

I use this cleanser as a morning cleanse or as the second cleanse in my evening skincare routine. You’d have to do quite a lot of scrubbing for this cleanser to dissolve makeup. Cleansing balms and oils do a better job as a first cleanse to remove SPF, makeup, dirt, etc. For that reason, I’d avoid using this cleanser for removing makeup, as the additional scrubbing could irritate your skin.

However, I’ve used cleansers that feel more hydrating, soothing, and refreshing than this one. Despite containing pineapple enzyme, Pineapple Refresh hasn’t made my skin appear any brighter than usual.

Would I repurchase? No.

This cleanser largely meets its claims, but there are better cleansers out there that deliver the same results for a fraction of the price. For example, the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule Foam (£12.73 for 125ml) and Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser (£12.17 for 100ml) are more than half the price of the Rhode Pineapple Refresh but are more moisturising and calming, while delivering all of the same benefits. I wouldn’t repurchase the Rhode cleanser as it’s not outstanding.

5. Rhode Peptide Glazing Fluid

The Rhode Peptide Glazing Fluid promises to be a lightweight, fast-absorbing serum that hydrates skin and immediately gives it a dewy appearance. This serum claims to visibly plump skin over time. Use it day and night, with 2-3 pumps per use. Peptides help build the skin’s barrier, hydrate and soothe skin, and give skin more elasticity and plumpness. Niacinamide improves uneven skin tone, regulates sebum production, and visibly minimises enlarged pores.

This is a great serum. If you like a glazed skin look, this is perfect. It makes skin look radiant and plump. As it’s a very dewy formula, I thought it would be quite sticky. Surprisingly, it’s non-greasy, lightweight, and absorbs quickly into the skin. It feels hydrating and smoothing when you apply it.

The Rhode Peptide Glazing Fluid meets its claims and is a cheat code to healthy, strengthened skin.

Would I repurchase? Maybe.

While I really like this serum, I tend to prefer peptides and dewyness in the form of a milky toner and usually go for more concentrated actives in my serums, such as vitamin C, salicylic acid, and azelaic acid. For that reason, I may not purchase this again, especially as £32 is quite expensive, but I think it’s a fab everyday serum.

6. Rhode Glazing Mist

The Rhode Glazing Mist claims to be a hydrating and refreshing mist that gives skin a glowy finish. You can use it after cleansing for a nourishing boost, to top up moisture levels throughout the day, or spritz over makeup for a glazed finish. It’s a versatile and superfine mist to keep your skin fresh all day. Ceramides help restore skin and ensure it’s moisturised and healthy, while beta-glucan delivers immediate and lasting hydration.

This is one of the best mists I’ve used.

I find a lot of face mists to be quite lacklustre, offering some hydration when you first apply it but nothing long-lasting or substantial. The Rhode Glazing Mist, on the other hand, provides instant deep nourishment and undeniable dewyness. If your skin looks dull or feels dehydrated, this mist will immediately revitalise and add life back to your skin.

My favourite ways to use this mist are after applying my moisturiser but before SPF to add noticeable luminosity to my skin, and as the finishing touch to any makeup look for long-lasting glow and hydration. However I use this spray, it just makes my skin look healthy and plump.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

While this is quite pricey and more of a nice-to-have than a must-have product, I just love how glazed my skin looks after I use it. I’d definitely buy this again and think it’s worth the money.

7. Rhode Pocket Blush

The Rhode Pocket Blush is a cream blush stick with a soft, satin finish. Available in 13 shades, the formula promises to be smooth, hydrating, long-wearing, and easy to blend. It leaves a glowy and non-greasy finish. You can apply the blush with your fingertips or a brush; each shade is buildable so you can get your desired colour payoff. It can be worn on the lips and cheeks. Rhode’s blush is one of the brand’s most well-known and iconic products.

I love the Rhode Pocket Blush. It’s one of my most-used and favourite blushes.

Firstly, I adore the shade range. There isn’t a single bad shade in the collection, and there’s everything from natural and subtle shades to brighter pops of colour that suit a wide range of undertones and skin tones. I own 3 shades (pictured below): Toasted Teddy (bronze terracotta), Sleepy Girl (soft mauve), and Piggy (baby pink). They’re all equally beautiful and diffuse into gorgeous creamy flushes of colours that never look patchy, streaky, or OTT. My current fixation is Piggy for a stunning pop of baby pink that’s girly, flirty, and very summery. However, all 3 shades have seen a lot of love, and I want to expand my collection of Rhode Pocket Blush shades.

I’m a massive fan of the formula. Unlike the Pocket Bronze, which can easily blend into nothingness, the Pocket Blushes are still creamy but have more grip, which means you have better control over the blending. Each shade has medium pigmentation but can be blended out to look softer or is easily buildable for more saturated colour payoff. They apply equally well with a brush or your fingertips. They feel soft, non-greasy, lightweight, and smooth, which makes skin look healthy and youthful.

For a cream blush, they’re also long-lasting. After 8 hours, there is some fading, but the blush never becomes patchy or streaky, and the colour is still visible.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

I recently wrote a post comparing the Rhode Pocket Blush and Merit Flush Balm, as the formulas are quite similar. While the Merit Flush Balm is worth checking out, especially for a dewier finish, the Rhode Pocket Blush is still my favourite. I can’t recommend the blush enough and want more shades.

8. Rhode Glazing Milk

Along with the Rhode Pocket Blush, the Rhode Glazing Milk is one of the brand’s most popular and renowned products. This milky toner claims to hydrate the skin, strengthen its barrier over time, and leave you with a glowy complexion. It soothes the skin, and is designed to make skincare and makeup application smoother. It can be mixed in with your favourite foundation or skin tint for a more radiant base. It’s enriched with ceramides, which help reinforce the skin’s barrier, prevent moisture loss, and help it look younger. 

The Rhode Glazing Milk is one of my favourite milky toners of all time.

This gorgeous formula is nourishing, softening, calming, restoring, and leaves my skin with the most beautiful dewy glow. It isn’t too rich or greasy for my combination skin, and it layers beautifully with other skincare products and underneath makeup without pilling.

It’s the skincare counterpart to Rhode’s new Highlight Milk, with a more nourishing, repairing, and skin-first approach. I particularly love using the Rhode Glazing Milk as part of my skin prep before makeup application, as base products look smoother and more seamless on top. Plus, it keeps my skin hydrated all day.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

I wouldn’t hesitate to repurchase this formula. It meets all of its claims, my skin looks and feels noticeably more moisturised and glowy after using it, and it helps strengthen your skin’s barrier. I’m obsessed. This is healthy skin in a bottle. While £32 isn’t cheap, the formula is totally worth it.

9. Rhode Peptide Lip Shape

The Rhode Peptide Lip Shape claims to be a soft-focus, creamy lip liner that enhances lip volume and gives a contoured effect. It promises to be hydrating and smoothing, while gliding on effortlessly. It comes in 14 subtle shades, from caramel brown and neutral beige to soft neutral pink and rich plum brown.

I’m not a fan of the Rhode Peptide Lip Shape.

While I appreciate the smooth, hydrating, and blurring effect of this lip liner, it’s too creamy. I got the shade Twist, which is described as a warm taupe, and it provides barely any definition to my lips. Plus, this lip liner will come off within a couple of hours, and even sooner if you eat or drink. It’s not long-wearing and is way too subtle for my liking.

I think this is quite a nice formula if you like a very natural look and want a quick on-the-go lip liner that’s easy to apply. However, for how little this lip liner actually does, it’s overpriced, and I never reach for it. The Banila Co Smuding Lip Pencil costs £10.33 for 0.8g and delivers that same blurred, soft-focus finish, and creamy formula for a fraction of the price.

Would I repurchase? No.

I don’t rate the Rhode Peptide Lip Shape, and there are more affordable, long-wearing, and soft-focus lip liners on the market that do a much better job.

10. Rhode Peptide Lip Tint

The Rhode Peptide Lip Tint combines the hydrating and replenishing benefits of a lip treatment with the high-shine finish of a lip gloss. This formula claims to be nourishing and smoothing, with a sheer and buildable colour that leaves your lips soft. It can be used alone or paired with the Rhode Peptide Lip Shape and Rhode Pocket Blush. This lip tint comes in 7 shades, like rose taupe and crushed berry, with some limited edition shades available.

I like the Rhode Peptide Lip Tint. The shade range is pretty, the formula is hydrating and it makes lips look plump and smooth. This tinted lip treatment can look natural with one coat or built up to medium intensity with a few layers.

It’s not as nourishing as the brand’s Peptide Lip Treatment, but it still feels moisturising and makes lips soft. I’ve got the shade PBJ, a warm berry brown, and it’s a lovely autumnal tone. Although, I don’t think it looks as deep or rich in person as it does on the photos on Rhode’s website. Nonetheless, I like the formula, and it’s great for everyday wear.

You can wear this by itself with just your skincare routine as a hydrating lip balm or as part of a makeup look, and it’ll look great either way.

Would I repurchase? Maybe.

While I like the formula, I’m not sure that I’d repurchase it, as there are similar products in the tinted lip balm category that I prefer. Most notably, the best one is the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, which is more nourishing, provides more gloss, has nicer scents, and has more versatile colour payoff (from sheer to more intense, depending on which shade you get).

Is Rhode worth the hype? Final verdict

Overall, Rhode is worth the hype. After testing 10 products, I think the brand does dewy, hydrating, and easy-to-use formulas particularly well, whether you’re looking for natural-looking makeup or skincare that leaves your skin feeling soft, nourished, and glowy.

However, I don’t think every Rhode product is worth the money. My standout products are the Highlight Milk, Glazing Milk, Pocket Blush, and Glazing Mist, which are all products I’d happily repurchase. The Pocket Bronze, Peptide Lip Treatment, Peptide Glazing Fluid, and Peptide Lip Tint are nice products that I enjoy using, but there are alternatives I’d choose over them. The Peptide Lip Shape and Pineapple Refresh are the two products I’d personally skip, as I don’t think they offer enough for the price.

I’d particularly recommend Rhode if you love dewy, natural-looking makeup and hydrating skincare, and don’t mind paying mid-range prices for beautifully formulated, easy-to-use products. If you prefer highly pigmented or long-wearing makeup, or you’re looking for the best possible value, there are better options out there.

Silk pillowcases are designed to offer a gentler, smoother, and more comfortable sleeping experience. They’re often associated with less hair breakage and frizz, reduced friction against the skin, and a cool, breathable feel.

However, high-quality silk pillowcases are typically more expensive than cotton pillowcases. The real question is: are the benefits of a silk pillowcase substantial enough to justify the higher price?

I tested the Lunelle 22 momme silk pillowcase to see whether sleeping on silk made any noticeable difference to my bedtime experience.

What are the benefits of a silk pillowcase?

One of the main advantages of silk is its smooth surface, which creates less friction as you move around during the night. This can be particularly beneficial for hair, helping to reduce tangling and mechanical stress that may contribute to breakage and frizz.

Silk is also known for being less absorbent than many other fabrics, meaning it can retain more of the moisture and natural oils from your hair and skin while you sleep.

The same low-friction surface may also be more comfortable against the skin, particularly if it’s sensitive or easily irritated.

Then there’s the comfort factor. Silk has a naturally smooth, soft feel, and is breathable, making it a cool and comfortable material to sleep on.

While silk pillowcases are often marketed for their beauty benefits, they’re not a treatment for concerns such as acne, wrinkles, or hair loss.

Silk vs cotton pillowcases: Which is better?

Silk and cotton have quite different properties. Silk is smooth, lightweight, and less absorbent, while cotton is more absorbent, widely available, and comes in a range of weaves and textures.

There’s also a difference in cost and care. Silk tends to be more expensive and requires gentler washing, while cotton is generally more affordable, durable, and easier to care for.

Ultimately, the better choice comes down to personal preference. Silk offers a smooth feel, lower absorbency, and a more luxurious finish, while cotton is practical, versatile, and generally easier on the budget.

About the Lunelle 22 momme silk pillowcase

The Lunelle 22 momme silk pillowcase is made from 100% Grade 6A long-strand mulberry silk and has a smooth, lightweight finish. It’s available in standard (50 × 70cm), queen (50 × 75cm), and king (50 × 90cm), with 5 colour options: white, pink, purple, silver, and dark grey. Each pillowcase has an envelope design with no zips.

The pillowcases are sold as a set of 2 for £64.99. The set also comes with a 60-night guarantee, giving you 2 months to try the pillowcases.

Lunelle says the 22 momme silk is designed to withstand regular washing without thinning or losing its shine.

So, what does 22 momme actually mean? Momme is a measurement of the weight of silk fabric per square metre. A higher momme means a heavier, denser fabric, while a lower momme produces a finer, lighter material. At 22 momme, the fabric offers a balance between being lightweight and substantial enough for everyday use.

For care, Lunelle recommends washing the pillowcases on a delicate cycle at 30°C or below, preferably inside a mesh laundry bag, using a silk-friendly detergent. They should be air dried away from direct sunlight, and shouldn’t be tumble-dried, bleached, or wrung out.

My experience with the Lunelle silk pillowcase

I have the Lunelle 22 momme silk pillowcase in white, and I’ve been testing it in warmer weather for the last week, so my comments are based on my initial experience.

The silk pillowcase is smooth and breathable. I particularly love how the fabric feels on my skin when it’s hot, as it still manages to stay cool and comfortable. I was concerned that the silk might feel sticky or uncomfortable if my skin became warm and sweaty during the night, but this hasn’t been the case. The pillowcase hasn’t felt wet or hot during the nights I’ve used it, which has made for a pleasant sleeping experience.

One unexpected benefit of the Lunelle pillowcase is how it soothes my skin when my rosacea flares up. While I don’t think the material itself has improved my rosacea, the silk provides welcome cooling relief when my skin feels particularly warm, red, or irritated. I personally love a cooler sleeping environment anyway, so the lightweight 22 momme fabric is ideal for me when my skin is particularly sensitive to heat.

My hair is straight and sleek, so I haven’t noticed a significant difference since using the pillowcase. It doesn’t tangle often or become frizzy, so I don’t have a huge baseline for comparison. However, I can see why people with curly, dry, or more fragile hair might notice more of a difference, as the smoother surface creates less friction while you sleep.

I also think the pillowcase looks great on my bed. It has a shinier, more luxurious appearance than my usual cotton pillowcase.

The pillowcase also stays firmly in place, with a snug fit that stops the pillow from slipping out and helps it retain its shape.

Is the Lunelle 22 momme silk pillowcase worth it?

Overall, I think the Lunelle 22 momme silk pillowcase is worth it. At £64.99 for a set of 2, it offers a noticeable upgrade in feel and comfort, particularly if you prefer a cooler sleeping environment or want to reduce friction while you sleep.

This pillowcase could be a good option for anyone with curly, dry, or frizzy hair, where reducing friction may help minimise tangling, frizz, and mechanical breakage. Personally, I’ve also found the cool, smooth fabric particularly comfortable when my skin feels warm or irritated.

The ViQure Lumirea device is designed to deliver a professional photofacial treatment at home. It combines near-infrared light and dye pulsed light to brighten dull skin, smooth fine lines, and reduce redness and rosacea.

But is this skincare device effective? In this honest review, I share my experience of using the ViQure Lumirea over the last 2 months.

What is dye pulsed light?

Dye pulsed light (DPL) is a relatively new type of light therapy that delivers controlled pulses of light to the skin. Traditional IPL uses a broad spectrum of light, typically around 400–1,200nm, whereas DPL uses a narrower range of wavelengths to provide more targeted treatment. The Lumirea uses DPL wavelengths of 530–650nm.

LED face masks work differently again. They generally use specific wavelengths of low-intensity light, such as red and near-infrared, rather than the broader, more intense pulses used by IPL and DPL. They’re commonly used for ongoing skincare concerns such as supporting collagen production, improving skin texture, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and redness.

According to ViQure, the main advantage of DPL over traditional IPL is its narrower wavelength range, which allows the light energy to be concentrated more selectively on particular skin concerns. The brand describes DPL as being suited to targeted concerns such as redness and pigmentation, while IPL offers broader-spectrum treatment.

In simple terms, IPL uses a broad spectrum of pulsed light, DPL uses a narrower spectrum for more targeted treatment, and LED masks use specific wavelengths of light.

The Lumirea combines DPL with NIR, allowing it to target multiple skin concerns.

What is near-infrared light?

Near-infrared (NIR) is a type of light that sits just beyond the visible red-light spectrum. It can penetrate deeper into the skin and underlying tissue than visible red light, which is why it’s often used alongside red light in LED skincare devices.

Like red light, NIR interacts with cells and may support processes involved in skin health. Potential benefits include supporting collagen production, reducing inflammation, and helping with skin repair and regeneration. It may also help improve the appearance of firmer, smoother skin and fine lines over time.

About the ViQure Lumirea photofacial device

The ViQure Lumirea is an at-home photofacial device that combines DPL and NIR light therapy. ViQure says that visible results can be seen in as little as four weeks.

ViQure Lumirea benefits

The Lumirea has three treatment modes designed to target different skin concerns:

• NIR: targets fine lines, enlarged pores, rough texture, firmness, and elasticity
• Redness: targets facial redness and visible capillaries
• Brighten: targets freckles, age spots, sun spots, acne marks, uneven skin tone, and dullness

You can target several different skin concerns during the same treatment.

The Lumirea also has built-in sapphire cooling. The cooling contact helps lower the skin’s surface temperature by 5-10°C during treatment, which can make the light therapy more comfortable and help minimise heat on the surrounding skin.

Wavelength modes and specifications

The Lumirea uses DPL wavelengths of 530–650nm and NIR wavelengths of 900–1,800nm. It also has a continuous lamp that emits a broader 400–1,800nm spectrum.

How to use the device

Using the ViQure Lumirea is relatively straightforward. Follow the simple steps below:

1. Ensure skin is clean and dry before use, with no other skincare products applied
2. Connect the power adapter to the device and plug it in
3. Put on the protective goggles
4. Long-press the power button to turn the device on
5. Press the mode button to select NIR, Redness, or Brighten
6. Use the device according to the selected mode: slide it slowly across the skin for NIR, use a sliding or stamping motion for Redness, and use a stamping motion for Brighten
7. Short-press the power button to select your desired energy level
8. Select either single-pulse or continuous-pulse mode using the light button
9. Long-press the power button to turn the device off after treatment
10. Apply a cooling or hydrating mask afterwards to soothe and moisturise the skin

Things to know before using the ViQure Lumirea

Before using the Lumirea, there are a few important precautions to be aware of:

• The device should only be used on clean, dry skin, without other skincare products applied beforehand.
• Protective goggles should be worn during treatment. The device should not be used on the eyeballs, eyelids, or under-eye area.
• Avoid direct sunlight before and after treatment, and don’t expose treated skin to direct UV rays for at least 48 hours afterwards.
• If you’ve had sunburn or UV-damaged skin within the previous three days, wait until it has recovered before using the device.
• The manual advises against using the device during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain medical conditions, on infected or damaged skin, or while taking certain medications.
• Topical isotretinoin, AHA, BHA, and azelaic acid are among the products that should not be used with the device.
• Mild redness or warmth after treatment can be normal. However, if treatment feels painful, the manual advises reducing the energy level or stopping use.

Using the ViQure Lumirea: My honest review

In this section, I share my results after using the ViQure Lumirea for the last 2 months. I’m 31 with combination sensitive skin. I have a few fine lines around my eyes and forehead. I’ve also got rosacea, which is largely under control but presents itself when I get warm.

How I added the device to my skincare routine

You’re advised to use the Lumirea device 3-4 times a week. I used the device around once or twice a week during my first month, before increasing this to 3 times a week during my second month.

Slotting the device into my evening skincare routine is convenient. I largely cycled between the Redness and Brighten modes, but I used NIR several times.

After completing a treatment session, I continued with my usual evening skincare products: toner/serum, moisturiser, and sometimes a facial oil.

Comfort and ease of use

The Lumirea is a reasonably lightweight handheld device. You don’t hold the device in the same position for longer than a few seconds, which makes it comfortable to use.

I like that you can just pop the protective goggles on. They fit well and don’t feel tight or slip around. I never felt like the light from the device got into my eyes.

I normally used energy level 5 – the highest level – during my treatments. It was tolerable and didn’t cause any irritation.

It took some practice to get the positioning right so the device had proper contact with my skin. I found that if I didn’t get the contact right, the light wouldn’t flash. You really need to ensure the device is fully pressed to your skin for it to work. However, once I got the positioning right, it was easy to use.

There isn’t a built-in timer, so you’ll need to keep track of your treatment time yourself. ViQure recommends using the device for 5 minutes per session, which I followed.

Overall, this device slots so effortlessly into my evening skincare routine. As I have sensitive skin, I’m also mindful of what I apply afterwards and tend to avoid retinol or exfoliating products immediately after treatment.

My results after 2 months

After using the ViQure Lumirea device over the last couple of months, I’ve noticed some improvements in my skin.

In particular, my rosacea and redness have reduced. Since using the device, I get fewer rosacea flare-ups and the general redness on my cheeks has improved. It’s helped make my complexion look more even.

I love the cooling element of the Lumirea. It feels soothing, refreshing, and helps ease any redness or rosacea I may be experiencing. It’s been especially welcome in the hot weather we’ve had here recently! The device itself gets fairly warm during treatment, so this cooling system helps ensure the device remains comfortable during use.

I also think the device has helped even out my skin tone and given my skin a little more of a glow. While I don’t have any pigmentation, the device can also help reduce pigmentation and sun spots. Given the improvements in my skin’s redness and tone, I think the device would be ideal for people with pigmentation.

Overall, I think it’s improved the appearance and feel of my skin. I haven’t noticed any improvement in my fine lines, though.

Final verdict: Is the ViQure Lumirea worth it?

I believe the Lumirea is worth considering if redness is one of your main skin concerns. It’s made a noticeable difference to my own rosacea and general facial redness.

It’s one of the best light therapy devices I’ve tried. It’s convenient, comfortable to use, and slots effortlessly into my usual skincare routine.

The Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base is one of the most iconic primers on the market. This luxurious formula nourishes the skin while giving makeup more grip for long-lasting and comfortable wear. It’s also one of my favourite primers, but at £54 for 50ml, it’s very expensive.

So when I discovered that the No7 Pro Artist Runway Radiance Primer is meant to be a dupe for the iconic Bobbi Brown primer, I had to try it. At £19.95, it’s less than half the price of Bobbi Brown and claims to moisturise the skin, prep it for makeup application, and prolong makeup wear.

In this honest review, I put the two primers through a side-by-side comparison to see how well they perform and whether No7 is truly a good dupe for Bobbi Brown.

Need-to-knows

Before I delve into the comparison, here’s how I tested the primers. I have combination skin with mild rosacea, and my T-zone is particularly prone to makeup breakdown. I applied one primer to each side of my face, keeping all my other skincare and makeup products exactly the same for a fair comparison.

About the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base

The Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base is a moisturiser and makeup primer in one. It claims to provide 24-hour priming, instantly hydrate skin, improve the look and wear of foundation, and leave the complexion looking smoother and more radiant. Bobbi Brown says the buttery formula creates the perfect makeup-ready canvas while helping skin feel nourished and refreshed. The primer is finished with a 100% natural grapefruit and geranium scent.

About the No7 Pro Artist Runway Radiance Primer

The No7 Pro Artist Runway Radiance Primer is designed to prep skin for makeup while delivering lasting hydration and a healthy glow. It claims to smooth the complexion, help foundation apply more evenly, and improve makeup longevity throughout the day. No7 says the rich yet lightweight formula absorbs quickly, leaving skin feeling soft, nourished, and perfectly prepped for makeup. It can also be worn alone to give bare skin a radiant finish.

The comparison

Price and packaging

At £19.95, the No7 primer costs less than half the £54 RRP of Bobbi Brown. Even with my discount code at LookFantastic, Bobbi Brown is still double the price of No7. It’s difficult to compare the exact value, as Bobbi Brown gives the product weight in grams while No7 uses millilitres, but No7 may contain slightly more product at this price point. No7 wins on price, easily.

Surprisingly, I think No7 has more luxurious packaging. While I think the design of Bobbi Brown is prettier, more sophisticated, and chic, No7’s tub is weightier, which makes it feel more expensive, whereas the Bobbi Brown tub is lighter and made from plastic.

Ingredients

The two primers have a lot in common. Both contain glycerin, squalane, shea butter, panthenol, niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate, and vitamin E, giving them a similar combination of hydrating, moisturising, and skin-conditioning ingredients.

There are some differences, though. Bobbi Brown contains acetyl glucosamine and uses ascorbyl glucoside as its vitamin C derivative, while No7 uses ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate and includes dimethicone, which helps give the primer a smooth, silky texture.

Overall, the INCI lists are surprisingly similar, particularly when it comes to the ingredients that hydrate, moisturise, and condition the skin.

Texture and application

While both primers have a lovely, rich, moisturiser-like texture, I prefer the consistency of the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base. It’s more nourishing and luxuriously smooth, giving my skin an instant glow and making it feel noticeably softer. I could easily get away with using it as a moisturiser by itself. No7 is also creamy and hydrating, but feels more like a traditional primer and doesn’t deliver quite the same radiance or smoothing effect.

Both primers melt into the skin effortlessly, leave my skin feeling soft, and don’t feel greasy or heavy. Bobbi Brown simply delivers a more luxurious experience.

On application, both primers have a fruity and botanical scent. Interestingly, No7 describes its fragrance as having the same grapefruit and geranium scent profile as Bobbi Brown, which I can definitely pick up when using them side by side. The Bobbi Brown fragrance is more noticeable and smells particularly premium, but the No7 scent is much subtler and doesn’t linger either.

The 8-hour wear test

Most importantly, is there any difference in how well my makeup lasted, how it applied over each primer, or the overall finish? I put them to the test with an 8-hour wear test.

For this wear test, I put No7 on one side of my face and Bobbi Brown on the other, as labelled below. I kept the rest of my skincare and makeup exactly the same, didn’t touch up with setting powder or reapply any makeup, and took the photos in artificial lighting to keep the conditions as consistent as possible.

See the results below:

Honestly, in both the before and after photos, I don’t think there’s any difference between the 2 primers. Both have an equally smooth, satin finish in the before photo. Makeup applied smoothly over both primers, with no cakiness or pilling. No7 felt grippier, whereas Bobbi Brown felt more hydrating, but this had no impact on the final look.

As for lasting power, my t-zone is always the culprit for becoming oily, particularly on my nose and cheeks. I couldn’t tell any difference between the Bobbi Brown and No7 sides.There’s noticeable shine on both sides of my face, and my base makeup looks equally as patchy and worn down.

Key differences between the primers

Is the No7 primer a good dupe for the Bobbi Brown primer? The verdict

The No7 Pro Artist Runway Radiance Primer is a very good dupe for the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base. Bobbi Brown still wins for me on the overall experience: it has a more luxurious texture, feels more nourishing on the skin, and gives me a smoother, more radiant finish. But No7 comes remarkably close, particularly when you consider the huge difference in price.

The two primers also share many of the same key ingredients, and even have the same grapefruit and geranium scent profile, although No7’s fragrance is much more subtle.

But the real test was how they performed under makeup, and this is where No7 really impressed me.

After 8 hours, I couldn’t see a meaningful difference between the two sides of my face. Makeup had broken down to a similar extent, my T-zone was equally shiny, and both sides still had a smooth satin finish. No7 also applied makeup just as well as Bobbi Brown, despite feeling slightly grippier on the skin.

Bobbi Brown will always have a special place in my heart because it feels like such a beautiful skincare and makeup hybrid. But if you’re looking for a more affordable alternative, I’d have no hesitation recommending No7. It doesn’t completely replicate the luxurious feel of Bobbi Brown, but it delivers remarkably similar results where it matters most: underneath your makeup.

Mixsoon products review

1. Mixsoon Bean Essence

The Mixsoon Bean Essence is my favourite product from the brand. You can read my full, in-depth review of this hero product here, but I’ll also share my thoughts below.

This iconic essence has a unique thick, slightly gloopy texture (similar to snail mucin), but it feels lightweight on the skin and absorbs quickly without leaving behind any stickiness. It helps to gently smooth and refine my complexion while keeping my skin hydrated and glowing.

Despite containing exfoliating ingredients that help improve the look of texture, this is a really gentle formula that works beautifully with my sensitive skin. After using it consistently, my skin looks healthier, more even, and has that signature K-beauty glow that I love.

This essence is a must-have for me and one of the products I’d recommend trying first if you’re new to Mixsoon.

2. Mixsoon Centella Cleansing Foam

The Mixsoon Centella Cleansing Foam is a lovely, gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin or leave it feeling tight and dry. Enriched with centella asiatica and salicylic acid, this cleanser exfoliates and soothes skin without feeling irritating. I really like how this cleanser lathers up into a creamy foam, and it leaves my skin clean, hydrated, and fresh. A little bit of product goes a long way, so this one lasts for ages.

Rating: 4.5 stars

This is a basic but excellent cleanser.

3. Mixsoon Bean Cleansing Oil

The Mixsoon Bean Cleansing Oil is fantastic for easily removing SPF, makeup, dirt, and grease from your skin. It doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue and rinses off effortlessly. The result? Nourished, clean, and smooth skin. I love how this cleansing oil seamlessly slots into my skincare routine without feeling too rich for my oily t-zone.

Rating: 4.5 stars

Again, it’s a basic cleansing oil, but it does its job perfectly.

4. Mixsoon Soondy Centella Asiatica Essence

The Mixsoon Soondy Centella Asiatica Essence is a calming watery essence. It instantly feels hydrating and refreshing on my skin. If my rosacea flares up, this lightweight essence helps reduce redness and irritation within a few hours. While I think this is a decent essence, I’ve tried other K-beauty products that contain centella asiatica that I prefer. It’s not transformative.

Rating: 4 stars

This isn’t a holy grail product for me.

5. Mixsoon Bifida Ferment Essence

The Mixsoon Bifida Ferment Essence is designed to support the skin barrier and improve hydration. Personally, I didn’t notice much of a difference while using it. My skin didn’t feel more hydrated, soothed, or protected than usual.

Rating: 3 stars

I’d skip this essence personally, although I suspect this would be a much better fit for people with dry or dehydrated skin.

6. Mixsoon Galactomyces Ferment Essence

The Mixsoon Galactomyces Ferment Essence claims to revitalise dull skin, improve elasticity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Just like the Bifida Ferment Essence, I really don’t notice any improvements in my skin after using it.

Rating: 3 stars

I think this essence would be a better solution for people with mature skin.

7. Mixsoon Centella Sun Cream

The Mixsoon Centella Sun Cream SPF50+ is an excellent everyday chemical sunscreen. It blends effortlessly into my skin, leaves no white cast, and is completely undetectable once applied. It’s one of those SPFs that you quickly forget you’re wearing, as it feels so lightweight and comfortable throughout the day.

This sunscreen layers beautifully over my skincare routine without pilling and sits just as nicely underneath makeup. It keeps my skin hydrated without becoming greasy, making it a great option for everyday wear.

This is a fantastic sunscreen if you want reliable broad-spectrum SPF50+ protection in a lightweight, invisible formula that feels effortless to wear.

8. Mixsoon Glacier Water Hyaluronic Acid Serum

The Mixsoon Glacier Water Hyaluronic Acid Serum is brilliant for deeply hydrating skin. It has the texture of a slightly gloopy yet runny essence. When I apply this serum to damp skin, it instantly makes my complexion look plump and dewy. Some hyaluronic acid serums leave my skin feeling a bit tight and stripped. This Korean skincare formula, on the other hand, is gentle and moisturising.

Rating: 4.5 stars

I’m a big fan of this serum. It also plays well with other skincare products and underneath makeup for a glowing base.

9. Mixsoon Soybean Milk Pad 

The Mixsoon Soybean Milk Pad is easily one of the best toner pads I’ve tried. The pads are drenched in liquid that deeply nourishes and soothes the skin, while strengthening the skin’s barrier. You can gently wipe the pads across your skin or leave them on your cheeks, forehead, and chin for 10 minutes before massaging the remaining essence into your skin. After using this toner, my skin looks dewy, feels incredibly soft, and overall appears healthy.

I’m obsessed with how these toner pads make my skin look and feel. They’re ideal for when my skin needs some extra TLC!

10. Mixsoon Centella Asiatica Toner

The Mixsoon Centella Asiatica Toner is a runny formula that instantly quenches and calms the skin. It absorbs quickly into the skin, isn’t sticky, and leaves my skin hydrated. As much as I enjoy this formula, I prefer other K-beauty toners, as they just give my skin more nourishment, refreshment, and glow. However, it’s gentle, fuss-free, and works well with other skincare products as it’s very lightweight.

Rating: 4 stars

This is a decent soothing toner but nothing exceptional.

Is Mixsoon worth it? The verdict

I think Mixsoon is a brilliant starting point for people looking to branch out into Korean skincare. The brand has simple, gentle, and fuss-free formulas that focus on one or a handful of hero ingredients to improve the look and feel of skin. Mixsoon excels in soothing and hydrating formulas that never strip the skin, absorb quickly, and layer beautifully.

One downside is that several of the essences feel quite similar. Unless you’re targeting a specific skin concern, you certainly don’t need to own multiple versions. To that end, if you’re looking for targeted actives, corrective treatments, or more advanced skincare solutions, I think there are better brands out there. But for basic, uncomplicated (in a positive way!), and tolerable formulas, Mixsoon is fantastic.

I particularly love the Soybean Milk Pad, Bean Essence, and Centella Sun Cream. Together, they protect my skin, leave it soothed and nourished all day, and give it a wonderful glow.

I’d recommend Mixsoon to anyone with sensitive, dehydrated, or easily irritated skin, or those who prefer uncomplicated skincare routines. If you enjoy layering lightweight hydrating products, it’s a brand that’s easy to fall in love with.

Skincare trends come and go. From snail mucin and PDRN to collagen peptides and exosomes, TikTok has a habit of turning ingredients into overnight sensations.

Tallow has been trending on social media for the last year, with some people claiming it has transformed their skin, while others say it caused irritation and breakouts.

But is tallow genuinely different, or is this another viral skincare trend that will disappear in six months?

This post explains what tallow is, why people are interested in it, whether the science stacks up, and my honest experience testing two HealthyDerm products containing tallow.

What is tallow skincare?

Although tallow has recently exploded in popularity on TikTok, it isn’t a new skincare ingredient. According to Paula’s Choice, tallow is rendered animal fat that’s been purified for use in cosmetics and personal care products. In skincare, it’s most commonly derived from cows, although tallow can also come from other animals.

Tallow is primarily composed of triglycerides, lipids, and fatty acids, which can help soften and nourish the skin while supporting the barrier and reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

It’s also worth noting that tallow is an animal-derived ingredient. For some people, this is appealing because it aligns with their preference for traditional, animal-derived skincare ingredients, while others may prefer vegan alternatives.

Scientific evidence for tallow skincare

While there is growing interest in tallow skincare, the scientific evidence is still developing.

A recent peer-reviewed study concluded that, although there are plausible scientific reasons why tallow may support skin hydration and barrier function, there are currently very few high-quality clinical studies investigating beef tallow itself. Much of the available evidence comes from research on individual fatty acids rather than finished tallow skincare products.

Dermatologist Dr Dray shares a similar perspective, explaining that although some fatty acids found in tallow have well-established moisturising properties, many claims circulating on social media are based on anecdotal experiences rather than robust clinical evidence. She also notes that tallow could potentially cause irritation and may not suit acne-prone skin.

It’s also worth remembering that “natural” doesn’t automatically mean safer or more effective. A well-formulated synthetic ingredient can be just as beneficial, and the overall formula matters more than whether an ingredient is natural or not.

So, while tallow isn’t simply another overnight TikTok trend, it also isn’t a skincare ingredient with decades of clinical research behind its use in modern formulations. Instead, it’s best viewed as a traditional ingredient enjoying renewed interest, with promising theoretical benefits and an evidence base that is still evolving.

Is tallow similar to our skin, and does it work for every skin type?

Tallow contains fatty acids such as oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid, which are also naturally found in human skin lipids. This overlap is why tallow is often described as being “skin-compatible”. However, this doesn’t mean tallow is identical to human sebum or suitable for every skin type, as human sebum is a complex mixture of lipids including squalene, wax esters, and cholesterol.

According to this review on the potential biocompatibility of tallow with human skin, tallow has a lipid profile that shares similarities with human skin, although more research is needed to understand how it performs in skincare formulations.

Due to its rich, occlusive texture, tallow may be particularly appealing for those with dry or dehydrated skin, as it can help reduce TEWL and leave skin feeling softer and more nourished. However, people with oily or acne-prone skin may want to introduce tallow cautiously, as its rich texture may feel too heavy and potentially contribute to congestion for some people. Individual reactions will vary.

I tested two tallow skincare products from HealthyDerm to see if it’s worth the hype

To put tallow skincare to the test, I’ve been using HealthyDerm’s whipped tallow balm and mineral sunscreen for 2 weeks to see whether this trending ingredient is overhyped or genuinely effective. Below, I share my review of each product before sharing my overall verdict on whether tallow skincare is worth trying.

HealthyDerm GHK-Cu Whipped Tallow Honey Balm

The HealthyDerm GHK-Cu Whipped Tallow Honey Balm claims to be an ultra-hydrating and fast-absorbing moisturiser, formulated for dry and mature skin. 

It only features 6 ingredients, making the INCI list quick and easy to read:

• Beef tallow (grass-fed): a rich source of fatty acids that helps soften and moisturise the skin
• Raw manuka honey: a humectant that helps attract moisture and soothe the skin
• Jojoba oil: a lightweight oil that helps soften and support the skin barrier
• Vitamin E (tocopherol from sunflower oil): an antioxidant that helps protect the skin from oxidative stress and supports the skin barrier
• GHK-Cu: a small copper peptide that helps skin support its own collagen
• Methylene blue: a synthetic dye that gives the balm its blue colour

HealthyDerm recommends using this balm as a nighttime step, as methylene blue may increase sun sensitivity, with SPF used during the day.

Firstly, I love the texture of this balm. It’s light, whipped, incredibly soft, and melts into the skin effortlessly. Despite being a balm, this doesn’t feel greasy or heavy, and it absorbs into the skin quickly.

This balm doesn’t contain any added fragrance, making it a better option for people with sensitive skin. A lot of tallow skincare products have a beefy smell, which is off-putting. Thankfully, this balm has a slightly sweet and botanical scent and doesn’t smell like meat at all.

When I apply the balm, it makes my skin feel immediately nourished and smooth. I’ve got combination skin, and an almond-sized amount of balm is ample to moisturise my entire face. On application, it gives my skin a wonderful glow.

I use this as a nighttime moisturiser, as the formula is quite rich. I also don’t use this balm every evening, as when I trialled that, it led to a few breakouts. Using this balm 3-4 times a week seems to strike the right balance between nourishing my skin and keeping it pimple-free.

Rating: 4.5 stars

This is a luxurious balm that deeply hydrates and softens skin. People with dry or dehydrated skin will particularly appreciate how moisturising and softening this formula is.

HealthyDerm Tallow Mineral Sunscreen SPF50

The HealthyDerm Tallow Mineral Sunscreen SPF50 is a broad-spectrum sunscreen containing only mineral UV filters. It claims to be gentle, non-greasy, and leave a minimal white cast. It can be used for ages 6 months and up.

This sunscreen contains 9 ingredients. The key ingredients are:

• Zinc oxide: a mineral UV filter that provides broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays
• Beef tallow (grass-fed): a rich source of fatty acids that helps soften and moisturise the skin
• Jojoba oil: a lightweight oil that helps soften the skin and support the skin barrier
• Beeswax: helps soften the skin and reduce moisture loss
• Lecithin: a skin-conditioning ingredient that helps improve moisture retention
• Centella asiatica: a soothing botanical extract that helps calm and hydrate the skin

This mineral SPF has a very thick consistency. Despite the brand’s non-greasy claims, I unfortunately find this formula to be on the oilier side. I have to apply this sparingly and in layers to ensure it fully melts into the skin. Otherwise, it’s too rich for my combination skin and leads to breakouts.

Again, this formula contains no added fragrance, which is great for people with sensitive skin. I find it gentle and non-irritating to the eyes.

On the positive side, this sunscreen is very hydrating. For people with dry skin, you may be able to skip a separate moisturiser when using this SPF, as the tallow and jojoba oil provide plenty of nourishment.

Unfortunately, this mineral SPF does leave a white cast. HealthyDerm recommends leaving it for at least a minute after applying it before checking for white cast to allow it to melt into the skin. Even when I check half an hour afterwards, I can still see some white cast. It’s nothing crazy, but if you’re not fair/light like me, expect this sunscreen to have a noticeable white cast on your skin.

I also find this formula to be a bit heavy on my skin. Instead of sinking in and becoming undetectable, it leaves behind a greasy finish. This makes it harder to apply the recommended amount of sunscreen and puts me off reapplying throughout the day. As with any sunscreen, applying enough product is essential to achieve the stated SPF50 protection. Unfortunately, applying a fuller amount also increases the likelihood of breakouts for my combination skin.

I also wouldn’t personally choose this under makeup, as the richer finish means it may interfere with other complexion products.

Rating: 3 stars

I believe this formula would work much better for people with fair, dry skin, where the white cast will be minimal, and they may appreciate the richer, more protective feel of the formula.

The verdict: Is tallow skincare worth trying?

Tallow skincare may be worth trying if you have dry or dehydrated skin and enjoy richer, balm-like textures. It’s very nourishing and gives skin a visible dewiness.

However, it’s not going to work miracles, and there’s very little scientific evidence to suggest this trending ingredient is going to heal acne, psoriasis, or eczema. Instead, tallow is a rich, hydrating ingredient that can leave you with soft and smooth skin.

For people with oily and combination skin, use tallow more sparingly, as richer formulas may contribute to breakouts for some people.

While HealthyDerm’s SPF didn’t work for my combination skin, I love the GHK-Cu Whipped Tallow Honey Balm as a nourishing nighttime moisturiser. I’ll especially enjoy using this in winter when the weather is harsher and my skin is drier from constant central heating.

Both the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum and Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Fresh Sun Serum contain hyaluronic acid and SPF50 for broad-spectrum protection against UV rays, while keeping the skin moisturised. Both are hugely popular K-beauty sunscreens with thousands of positive reviews, so I decided to put them head to head.

In this post, I compare the SKIN1004 and Isntree sunscreens to find out which one is the best value for money, their ingredients, and how they wear on the skin.

It claims to offer a lightweight, serum-like texture that absorbs quickly, leaves no white cast, and provides a comfortable finish on the skin. Suitable for all skin types, the sunscreen costs £12.16 for 50ml.

About the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Fresh Sun Serum

The Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Fresh Sun Serum is a vegan and cruelty-free chemical sunscreen with SPF50+ protection. It claims to provide lightweight, hydrating sun protection with a serum-like texture that absorbs quickly and leaves a refreshing, moisturising finish. Suitable for all skin types, the sunscreen retails for £12.66 for 50ml.

The comparison

Price and packaging

Both SPFs are about the same price for the same amount of product. Under £13 for a 50ml sunscreen is great value.

As for packaging, I slightly prefer Isntree. I’m a fan of thin nozzles, as you can squeeze out the right amount of product. While SKIN1004’s pump dispenses a small amount of product – so you’ve got control – I always prefer squeezy bottles. Both sunscreens are lightweight with simple packaging.

Ingredients

Some of the key ingredients in the SKIN1004 SPF50 INCI list include:

• Diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate: a synthetic UV filter that helps shield skin against UVA rays.
• Ethylhexyl triazone: a synthetic UV filter that helps protect skin from UVB rays.
• Tinosorb M: a synthetic broad-spectrum UV filter that helps defend skin against UVA and UVB rays.
• Niacinamide: visibly minimises enlarged pores, improves uneven skin tone, helps regulate sebum production, and strengthens the skin’s barrier.
• Centella asiatica: calms and soothes skin.
• Hyaluronic acid complex: the formula contains 3 types of hyaluronic acid to deliver long-lasting hydration.

Some of the key ingredients in the Isntree SPF50 INCI list are:

• Panthenol: moisturises and soothes skin.
• Ethylhexyl triazone: a synthetic UV filter that helps protect skin from UVB rays.
• Niacinamide: visibly minimises enlarged pores, improves uneven skin tone, helps regulate sebum production, and strengthens the skin’s barrier.
• Drometrizole trisiloxane: a synthetic broad-spectrum UV filter that helps defend skin against UVA and UVB rays.
• Hyaluronic acid complex: this SPF contains 9 types of hyaluronic acid for deep hydration.
• Squalane: helps prevent moisture loss and restores suppleness to skin.

Both sunscreens share a lot in common. They use modern UV filters, contain niacinamide, and are formulated to provide lightweight hydration without irritating sensitive skin.

The main difference lies in their supporting ingredients. SKIN1004 centres its formula around centella asiatica and antioxidant-rich plant extracts to help soothe the skin, while Isntree focuses more heavily on hydration and barrier support with 9 types of hyaluronic acid alongside ingredients such as panthenol, squalane, and ectoin.

Texture and application

When it comes to texture and application, the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum and Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Fresh Sun Serum are virtually the same. Both formulas prioritise a lightweight and fluid consistency that absorbs quickly, doesn’t feel greasy, and doesn’t pill. On application, they’re smooth and blend seamlessly.

Finish and skincare benefits

Both K-beauty sunscreens have a natural dewy finish with zero white cast. I tried these sunscreens on my partner, who has a medium-to-deep complexion, and they didn’t leave a white cast on his skin tone either.

They don’t sit on top of the skin or look dull; instead, they give skin a healthy appearance. I applied the Isntree one to the right side of my face and the SKIN1004 to the left side, and you can’t tell the difference between them, as shown in the photo below.

In terms of skincare benefits, both sunscreens are moisturising, soothing, and refreshing on the skin. As they both provide long-lasting hydration, I actually think you could skip moisturising altogether if you’ve got particularly oily skin or if it’s a very hot day. I find the sunscreens very breathable and comfortable to wear. Once applied, they’re undetectable on the skin.

Wear throughout the day

Similarly, the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum and Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Fresh Sun Serum wear equally well. Neither becomes greasy, still feel comfortable after 8+ hours of wear, and keep skin hydrated throughout the day.

Importantly, topping up is also a breeze. If you apply more sunscreen from either formula, it doesn’t pill or feel like another sticky layer. Instead, it melts into the skin easily, so keeping your SPF topped isn’t a hassle or uncomfortable.

Performance under makeup

As these Korean sunscreens specialise in being hydrating, lightweight, and non-greasy, they also perform brilliantly underneath makeup. There’s no stickiness, no pilling, and no patchiness. Primers, foundation, concealer, etc., all smooth over these formulas with no disturbance. I’ve also not noticed any flashback issues with either formula.

Which hydrating SPF is the best? The verdict

If you’re deciding between the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum and Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Fresh Sun Serum, I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with either.

They’re incredibly similar in terms of texture, finish, longevity, and overall performance. Both feel lightweight, absorb quickly, leave no white cast, wear comfortably throughout the day, and sit beautifully underneath makeup. They’re also similarly priced, making either one excellent value for money.

Ultimately, your decision comes down to the supporting ingredients and packaging. If you’ve got particularly sensitive or redness-prone skin, you may prefer SKIN1004’s centella-focused formula. If you’re looking for an SPF with a stronger focus on hydration and barrier support, Isntree’s blend of 9 types of hyaluronic acid, panthenol, squalane, and ectoin may appeal more.

Personally, I’d be happy to repurchase either sunscreen, as I genuinely noticed very little difference between them in everyday use.

About the Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Moisturising Cream

The Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Moisturising Cream is a lightweight K-beauty moisturiser designed to provide intense hydration while supporting a plump, radiant-looking complexion. The fast-absorbing formula promises to leave skin feeling soft, smooth, and nourished without feeling heavy or greasy.

According to Anua, this moisturiser works well underneath makeup, as it doesn’t pill and provides a smooth base. It can be used in the morning and evening.

As this cream contains PDRN from salmon DNA, this formula is not vegan. However, Anua says this moisturiser is cruelty-free.

Some of the key ingredients include:

• Sodium DNA (PDRN): helps support skin hydration and promote a healthy-looking glow
• 10 forms of hyaluronic acid: provide multi-level hydration to help skin feel plumper and more moisturised
• Niacinamide: helps support the skin barrier and improve the appearance of uneven skin tone

The formula is fragrance-free, making it a good option for those who prefer to avoid added fragrance in their skincare. However, it does contain botanical extracts and benzyl alcohol, which may be worth noting if you have particularly sensitive skin.

The Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Moisturising Cream costs £24 for 60ml at Cult Beauty. Currently, the moisturiser is 20% off at Cult Beauty, priced at just £19.20.

Honest Anua PDRN cream review

I’m a big fan of the Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Moisturising Cream.

Firstly, I like the packaging. While the tube is nothing exciting, the thin nozzle makes squeezing out the right amount of product easy. The minimalist packaging gives it a clinical, treatment-inspired feel, which fits well with the science-led ingredients inside.

The texture is one of my favourite aspects of the moisturiser. It’s creamy and light, offering a gel-cream consistency. This formula feels suitable for a wide range of skin types. Its lightweight texture makes it comfortable for oily and combination skin, while the hydrating ingredients make it appealing for those with dry or dehydrated skin.

I’ve got combination skin and mild rosacea, and the ANUA PDRN cream hasn’t caused any sensitivity or irritation.

As for the benefits, this moisturiser is fantastic. On application, the consistency is refreshing, smoothing, and feels noticeably plumping. Yet, despite being quite creamy, it’s fast-absorbing and non-greasy. It immediately makes my skin look radiant and feel hydrated. This hydration lasts all day, too. From the morning when I first apply it, right until my evening skincare routine, my skin feels nourished, soft, and protected.

As for the PDRN claims, I can notice the hydration, firmness, smoothness, and radiance from using this moisturiser. While I’ve not noticed any difference in fine lines and wrinkles, this cream makes my skin appear plump and healthy in both the short and long term.

It’s difficult to know whether these improvements are down to PDRN specifically or the combination of hydrating and barrier-supporting ingredients in the formula. Either way, my skin feels more comfortable, resilient, and balanced since introducing this moisturiser.

Overall, the Anua PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Moisturising Cream has quickly become one of my favourite daily moisturisers. It delivers the hydration, softness, and glow I look for in a cream, while the lightweight texture makes it easy to use both morning and evening.

Rhode and Merit are two of the most popular ‘clean girl’ beauty brands out there.

Merit is known for its dewy, buildable, and minimalist formulas that cater to busy people and those who prefer a more natural look. Founded by Hailey Bieber, Rhode is a highly successful brand adored for its barrier-repairing skincare products and hydrating makeup staples that promote healthy-looking skin.

Both brands have cream stick blushes that have become cult classics in the makeup community. They’re pretty similar, so I decided to put the Merit Flush Balm and Rhode Pocket Blush to the test to find out which dewy formula is the best.

Need-to-knows

Before I delve into this comparison, I wanted to give you a rundown of how I tested the stick blushes. I’ve got combination skin with mild rosacea. Whenever I swatched or applied either product, I kept everything else as similar as possible for a true comparison. This includes the majority of my skin prep, makeup products, the brush I used to apply the products, and the time of day. When I tested the cream blushes, the weather was warm, so this could impact the longevity.

About the Merit Flush Balm

The Merit Flush Balm is a vegan and cruelty-free cream blush. It claims to be buildable, glowy, last all day, and never feel cakey or greasy. Merit says its blush stick is suitable for people with sensitive and acne-prone skin. Available in 13 shades, with a good range of colours for all skin tones, the blush costs £26 for 9g. Merit is Leaping Bunny-approved.

About the Rhode Pocket Blush

The Rhode Pocket Blush is a vegan and cruelty-free cream blush. It promises to be hydrating, deliver a radiant satin finish, be lightweight, and stay put all day. Rhode says this formula melts on smoothly, never feels greasy, and leaves you with baby-soft cheeks. Available in 13 shades, with a wide range of colours for all skin tones, the blush costs £25 for 5.3g. Rhode is Leaping Bunny-approved.

The comparison

Price and packaging

Merit wins on price, as it costs £26 for 9g, whereas Rhode costs £25 for 5.3g. That means you’re getting almost double the amount of product in the Merit Flush Balm for just about the same price.

However, I slightly prefer the Rhode Pocket Blush’s packaging. The lid feels sturdier, I like the sleek cylinder tube, and it looks modern. Both are very lightweight, though, making them perfect for travelling.

Shade range

Both cream blushes come in 13 shades. Rhode and Merit offer a great range of shades, from baby pinks and warm terracottas to deep berries, soft peaches, and cool mauves. I think Rhode offers a better range of colours for deeper complexions, whereas Merit has a more extensive range of soft neutral tones.

Swatches

The swatches below were done on the back of my hand. I swatched the shade Fox (a warm taupe) from Merit Beauty and the shade Sleepy Girl (a soft mauve) from Rhode below. This photo is completely unedited and taken in natural light.

While the shades are obviously different, you can also see some noticeable differences in formula. Rhode is more pigmented, smoother, and offers a satin sheen. Merit is much dewier, less pigmented, and balmier.

Formula and application

For this review, I applied both blush sticks by swiping some product on the back of my hand first, dipping an angled brush into the blush on the back of my hand to coat the bristles evenly, and then using the brush in tapping motions to distribute the blush across my cheeks.

I prefer applying the Rhode Pocket Blush using this method. The blush applies smoothly, blends effortlessly, and you can build pigmentation to your desired level. It doesn’t disturb any complexion products underneath and leaves you with an even pop of colour. It’s also very easy to buff the edges out for a soft, diffused look.

When I applied the Merit Flush Balm using this method, it applied patchily and took a fair bit of working into the skin for even coverage. As I blended this blush into my skin, it started to disturb my foundation underneath. Because this formula is very creamy, it’s easy to blend the product into nothingness. I think this blush works better when applied directly to the cheeks and blended out using a brush.

Overall, I prefer the smoother, versatile, and creamy consistency of Rhode’s cream blush, as it doesn’t slip around on the skin.

Makeup looks

I did a makeup look with both cream blushes so you can see what they look like on the skin. For this, I used the same primer, foundation, concealer, setting spray, and setting powder.

For my Merit makeup look, it’s just the blush applied directly on top of primer, foundation, concealer, setting spray, and setting powder. For my Rhode makeup look, as well as the same complexion products, I’m also wearing bronzer and highlighter.

I think both look nice on the skin. Rhode is more pigmented, satin, and smooth, whereas Merit is more natural and subtle. On the cheeks, Merit is nowhere near as glowy as the swatch. However, I think if you applied the Merit blush with your fingertips or directly onto your cheeks, it would be more radiant.

Personally, I prefer the seamless look of the Rhode Pocket Blush. I love how versatile it is, and it’s completely foolproof. If you apply too much, you can buff it out so it looks softer.

Longevity

The Rhode Pocket Blush has better lasting power than the Merit Flush Balm. After 8 hours, the Rhode blush has minimal fading and still looks smooth and even. In the same amount of time, the Merit blush fades significantly.

Key differences between Merit Flush Balm and Rhode Pocket Blush

The biggest difference between the Rhode Pocket Blush and Merit Flush Balm comes down to performance. Rhode delivers a smoother, more pigmented formula with better longevity and easier application, while Merit offers a sheerer, more natural finish and significantly better value for money thanks to its larger size. Both are lightweight, travel-friendly cream blushes with 13 shades, but they’ll appeal to different makeup preferences.

Which dewy blush balm is the best? The verdict

I like both the Merit Flush Balm and Rhode Pocket Blush. They have different strengths, with Rhode being more pigmented, smooth, and long-wearing and Merit being creamier, more natural, and better value for money.

The Rhode Pocket Blush is my favourite overall. I love how seamless it is to work with, the lit-from-within finish, and the fact it doesn’t disturb base makeup. While it’s more expensive, because it’s also more pigmented, you don’t need as much product, which makes it last that bit longer.

Jones Road is best known for its effortless, versatile, natural, and hydrating makeup products. However, I’ve not seen much hype around Jones Road’s skincare line. Having been impressed with the brand’s makeup products, I wanted to know whether its skincare collection is just as noteworthy. At 30 with combination skin and mild rosacea, I’m looking for hydrating, soothing, and gentle formulas that deliver noticeable results.

Is Jones Road skincare worth checking out? This review shares my honest experience after 4 weeks of testing.

1. Jones Road Soft Skin Cream Cleanser

About the product

The Jones Road Soft Skin Cream Cleanser promises to be hydrating and creamy. It claims to effortlessly dissolve makeup and daily buildup for soft, clean, and fresh skin. It can be used in the morning or at night. Propanediol helps skin look dewy and smooth, while glycerin keeps skin moisturised and supple. This cleanser contains perfume.

Review

This is a basic and straightforward cleanser that gets the job done.

I’m not a massive fan of the squeezy tube. The tube itself isn’t flexible, and, as the formula is thick and creamy, it inevitably means that you won’t be able to get some product out.

I like that the cleanser works into a creamy, non-stripping lather. You only need a 5p-sized amount of product to cover your entire face, as once activated with water, it spreads easily. Rinsing the product off your skin leaves no greasy residue.

The cleanser leaves my skin soft, clean, and smooth. It’s gentle and doesn’t aggravate my rosacea. As a morning or second cleanse, it works well. However, if you’re sensitive to fragrance, it might be best to give this one a miss.

Despite the positives, this cleanser isn’t good at removing makeup. You have to scrub quite hard and use the formula multiple times to thoroughly remove makeup, which is counterintuitive to a gentle cleanse. A cleansing balm or oil would be far more effective. And the Jones Road cleanser stings badly if you get it into your eyes. Again, that’s not what you want when removing eye makeup!

Rating: 4 stars

Overall, I think it’s a decent morning cleanser, but I’ve tried plenty of other formulas (including cheaper ones) that I prefer.

2. Jones Road Rich Eye Cream

About the product

The Jones Road Rich Eye Cream claims to nourish, freshen, and brighten the under-eye area. It can be used as an overnight mask or in the mornings when your skin is extra dry. The hero ingredient, niacinamide, helps brighten dark spots, correct uneven skin tone, and make skin look radiant.

Review

This eye cream is ultra-moisturising and leaves my under-eyes incredibly soft afterwards.

The formula is a little too rich and thick for my skin. Even when I use only a pea-sized amount under my eyes, it still takes quite a bit of tapping in for it to absorb fully. Dry skin will absolutely love this, though. For this reason, I only use this eye cream at night as a deeply hydrating overnight treatment.

My under-eye area feels soft and smooth in the morning. It feels very protective and restorative. However, there’s been no difference in brightness since using this eye cream. While this eye cream is nice, you could find eye creams that deliver similar results at a fraction of the cost. It’s nothing transformative or special, especially for £40.

The Jones Road Multivitamin Serum contains vitamins C, B, E, and sodium hyaluronate to soothe, brighten, and hydrate the face for healthy-looking, nourished skin. It’s supposed to be an all-in-one serum that delivers everything your skin needs.

I want to love this serum, as, on paper, it sounds incredible, but it just misses the mark.

Firstly, I’m not a fan of the rollerball applicator. I don’t like the sensation of it rolling over the bonier parts of my face, like my forehead and nose, and I feel like I’ve got less control over where the product goes compared to if I just used my hands. Having said that, it dispenses the product in thin layers, so the serum absorbs quickly and is lightweight.

The serum smells lovely. It’s subtly citrusy and fresh, which evokes an invigorating and uplifting sensation. Yet, I haven’t noticed any difference in my skin since using it. I don’t find the serum calming, luminous, or moisturising.

For £50, I’d expect a lot more. I can’t tell any skin benefits – immediate or long-term – which is such a shame.

About the product

The Jones Road Light Moisture Cream is a hybrid gel-cream that promises to be hydrating, replenishing, buildable, and fast-absorbing. Shea butter deeply nourishes, niacinamide helps regulate sebum production, and propanediol helps skin look smooth and dewy. This moisturiser contains fragrant components like orange peel oil and linalool.

I like this sweet, citrusy moisturiser.

Despite being labelled as a light gel-cream, this moisturiser is thick and rich. I’m surprised it’s called a Light Moisture Cream, as it’s super creamy. If anything, I’d imagine this being a perfect pick for someone with dry skin, as it’s ultra-nourishing.

On my combination skin, it’s not fast-absorbing, and even a small £1 coin-sized amount of product takes quite a lot of work to massage into the skin. If you apply too much product, it can also feel greasy and heavy, so work in small layers.

Once I nailed the right amount of product to apply and had massaged the formula fully into my skin, this moisturiser is lovely. It’s creamy, nourishing, replenishing, and gives my skin a fresh, bouncy appearance. After using it, my skin is noticeably softer, smoother, and suppler. As it’s quite rich, I only apply this at night, as it might be too heavy for my skin during the daytime otherwise.

While this moisturiser feels premium in terms of scent, texture, and results, £50 is still quite steep. You could find comparable creams for half the price.

Is Jones Road worth checking out? The verdict

Overall, Jones Road skincare is decent, but I’ve not been blown away. Despite the premium prices, I don’t think these products deliver exceptional results. These are nice, hydrating formulas, great for dry skin, but I’ve experienced similar results from drugstore products.
