Jones Road is best known for its effortless, versatile, natural, and hydrating makeup products. From multi-tasking dewy balms and subtle tinted moisturisers to buildable lip and cheek tints, the brand is minimalist, focusing on a small collection of high-quality staple pieces. I adore the Jones Road Gel Liner and natural Miracle Balm.

However, I’ve not seen much hype around Jones Road’s skincare line. Having been impressed with the brand’s makeup products, I wanted to know whether its skincare collection is just as noteworthy. At 30 with combination skin and mild rosacea, I’m looking for hydrating, soothing, and gentle formulas that deliver noticeable results.

Is Jones Road skincare worth checking out? This review shares my honest experience after 4 weeks of testing.

1. Jones Road Soft Skin Cream Cleanser

About the product

The Jones Road Soft Skin Cream Cleanser promises to be hydrating and creamy. It claims to effortlessly dissolve makeup and daily buildup for soft, clean, and fresh skin. It can be used in the morning or at night. Propanediol helps skin look dewy and smooth, while glycerin keeps skin moisturised and supple. This cleanser contains perfume.

Review

This is a basic and straightforward cleanser that gets the job done.

I’m not a massive fan of the squeezy tube. The tube itself isn’t flexible, and, as the formula is thick and creamy, it inevitably means that you won’t be able to get some product out.

I like that the cleanser works into a creamy, non-stripping lather. You only need a 5p-sized amount of product to cover your entire face, as once activated with water, it spreads easily. Rinsing the product off your skin leaves no greasy residue.

The cleanser leaves my skin soft, clean, and smooth. It’s gentle and doesn’t aggravate my rosacea. As a morning or second cleanse, it works well. However, if you’re sensitive to fragrance, it might be best to give this one a miss.

Despite the positives, this cleanser isn’t good at removing makeup. You have to scrub quite hard and use the formula multiple times to thoroughly remove makeup, which is counterintuitive to a gentle cleanse. A cleansing balm or oil would be far more effective. And the Jones Road cleanser stings badly if you get it into your eyes. Again, that’s not what you want when removing eye makeup!

Overall, I think it’s a decent morning cleanser, but I’ve tried plenty of other formulas (including cheaper ones) that I prefer.

2. Jones Road Rich Eye Cream

About the product

The Jones Road Rich Eye Cream claims to nourish, freshen, and brighten the under-eye area. It can be used as an overnight mask or in the mornings when your skin is extra dry. The hero ingredient, niacinamide, helps brighten dark spots, correct uneven skin tone, and make skin look radiant.

Review

This eye cream is ultra-moisturising and leaves my under-eyes incredibly soft afterwards.

The formula is a little too rich and thick for my skin. Even when I use only a pea-sized amount under my eyes, it still takes quite a bit of tapping in for it to absorb fully. Dry skin will absolutely love this, though. For this reason, I only use this eye cream at night as a deeply hydrating overnight treatment.

My under-eye area feels soft and smooth in the morning. It feels very protective and restorative. However, there’s been no difference in brightness since using this eye cream. While this eye cream is nice, you could find eye creams that deliver similar results at a fraction of the cost. It’s nothing transformative or special, especially for £40.

3. Jones Road Multivitamin Serum

About the product

The Jones Road Multivitamin Serum contains vitamins C, B, E, and sodium hyaluronate to soothe, brighten, and hydrate the face for healthy-looking, nourished skin. It’s supposed to be an all-in-one serum that delivers everything your skin needs.

Review

I want to love this serum, as, on paper, it sounds incredible, but it just misses the mark.

Firstly, I’m not a fan of the rollerball applicator. I don’t like the sensation of it rolling over the bonier parts of my face, like my forehead and nose, and I feel like I’ve got less control over where the product goes compared to if I just used my hands. Having said that, it dispenses the product in thin layers, so the serum absorbs quickly and is lightweight.

The serum smells lovely. It’s subtly citrusy and fresh, which evokes an invigorating and uplifting sensation. Yet, I haven’t noticed any difference in my skin since using it. I don’t find the serum calming, luminous, or moisturising.

For £50, I’d expect a lot more. I can’t tell any skin benefits – immediate or long-term – which is such a shame.

4. Jones Road Light Moisture Cream

About the product

The Jones Road Light Moisture Cream is a hybrid gel-cream that promises to be hydrating, replenishing, buildable, and fast-absorbing. Shea butter deeply nourishes, niacinamide helps regulate sebum production, and propanediol helps skin look smooth and dewy. This moisturiser contains fragrant components like orange peel oil and linalool.

Review

I like this sweet, citrusy moisturiser.

Despite being labelled as a light gel-cream, this moisturiser is thick and rich. I’m surprised it’s called a Light Moisture Cream, as it’s super creamy. If anything, I’d imagine this being a perfect pick for someone with dry skin, as it’s ultra-nourishing.

On my combination skin, it’s not fast-absorbing, and even a small £1 coin-sized amount of product takes quite a lot of work to massage into the skin. If you apply too much product, it can also feel greasy and heavy, so work in small layers.

Once I nailed the right amount of product to apply and had massaged the formula fully into my skin, this moisturiser is lovely. It’s creamy, nourishing, replenishing, and gives my skin a fresh, bouncy appearance. After using it, my skin is noticeably softer, smoother, and suppler. As it’s quite rich, I only apply this at night, as it might be too heavy for my skin during the daytime otherwise.

While this moisturiser feels premium in terms of scent, texture, and results, £50 is still quite steep. You could find comparable creams for half the price.

Is Jones Road worth checking out? The verdict

Overall, Jones Road skincare is decent, but I’ve not been blown away. Despite the premium prices, I don’t think these products deliver exceptional results. These are nice, hydrating formulas, great for dry skin, but I’ve experienced similar results from drugstore products.

I’m willing to spend a lot of money on luxury beauty products if they deliver tangible, high-quality results. If it means you end up using less product, the product is more effective, and you see and feel real benefits, then I believe it’s worth the investment. Of course, that’s not to say you can’t find amazing, affordable products, but sometimes you can tell the difference in quality by spending more £££.

But £104 for the Victoria Beckham Beauty The Foundation Drops is very expensive. Even half the price would be a premium cost, and I’ve never spent anywhere close to £100 on a foundation before. However, this foundation has received so many glowing reviews, with plenty of people calling it their holy grail foundation and insisting it’s worth the money, that I was intrigued. Plus, Victoria Beckham Beauty does my favourite powder bronzer and pencil eyeliner, so I was confident the foundation would, at the very minimum, be a lovely formula.

About the Victoria Beckham Beauty The Foundation Drops

The Victoria Beckham Beauty Foundation Drops is a skincare-infused foundation created in collaboration with premium skincare brand Augustinus Bader. Available in 19 shades spanning fair to deep skin tones, it offers light-to-medium, buildable coverage with a natural, skin-like finish and a soft, luminous sheen.

At the centre of the formula is Augustinus Bader’s TFC8® technology, a blend of amino acids, vitamins, and natural molecules that the brand says helps support the skin’s natural renewal processes by delivering active ingredients more effectively. It is used with the intention of helping guide active ingredients into the skin, where it is linked to supporting repair and improving overall skin condition over time.

Alongside this, the formula features squalane and jojoba oil, which provide lightweight hydration and help the product sit comfortably on the skin without feeling heavy or greasy. Glycerin acts as a humectant, drawing moisture into the skin for a plumper, more hydrated look. Victoria Beckham Beauty The Foundation Drops Light 4 swatch

I got the Victoria Beckham Beauty Foundation Drops in the shade Light 4, which is described as light with neutral undertones. Here’s a swatch on the back of my hand:

The shade description is accurate, as this is a truly neutral undertone, without leaning too warm or too cool. It’s a near-perfect match for my complexion.

The wear test: 10 hours

To test how well this premium foundation wears throughout the day, I did a 10-hour wear test. I took a photo as soon as I’d applied the foundation, 4 hours after, and 10 hours after.

I’ve got combination skin with an oily t-zone. My nose always goes shiny throughout the day, no matter what makeup I’m wearing. I applied the Victoria Beckham foundation on top of the e.l.f. Power Grip Primer.

I completed the wear test on a hot day when I was busy and active. At the 4-hour mark, I applied more setting powder to my t-zone, as I was attending a wedding and wanted my makeup to look its best.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t in the same room when taking these photos, so the lighting is different for each photo. In the final photo, I had to take this under the spotlights in my living room, as there was no natural lighting.

I took all of these photos using the back camera on my iPhone, without flash.

Here’s how the Victoria Beckham Beauty Foundation Drops wore throughout the day:

4 hours after application, my t-zone had become a little oily, so I used setting powder to keep my base fresh. However, after 10 hours, the majority of the foundation had worn off my nose and was largely off the inner part of my cheeks, chin, and a bit from my forehead.

Despite the hot weather and being busy, the foundation wore brilliantly. On the areas of my skin that aren’t oily, the foundation hardly budged at all. It still felt fresh after 10 hours, which is very impressive.

Below, I’ll discuss my overall thoughts on the foundation and whether it’s worth £104.

Honest Victoria Beckham Beauty The Foundation Drops: Is it worth £104?

Packaging

The bottle looks lovely. It’s premium and chic, with a sleek black bottle and contrasting blue-topped lid. However, the bottle doesn’t feel expensive. It’s made from plastic and is quite lightweight – something I associate more with affordable products. For example, the Haus Labs and Pat McGrath Labs foundations feel more premium and weighty. For the price point, I’d expect more luxurious packaging.

Having said that, I love the dispenser. It has a thin nozzle, so, when you squeeze the bottle, you can control how much product comes out. This means no product goes to waste, it’s easy to use, and you can dispense more foundation when you need it.

Formula, coverage, and application

One of my favourite elements of this foundation is its formula. The Victoria Beckham Beauty Foundation Drops has a runny, fluid consistency, which makes applying and blending this foundation flexible and seamless. Unlike thick foundations, which can take a lot of working into the skin, this formula buffs effortlessly into the skin with a brush, your fingertips, or a beauty blender.

As the foundation is runny, you can build the coverage in thin layers, so it never looks patchy. You can really play around with the level of coverage of this foundation too. It initially provides light-medium coverage, but you could easily work up to full coverage by buffing more product into your skin.

I personally love applying this foundation with a brush, but it works well with any tool! A beauty blender will give you sheerer coverage, whereas using your fingertips will give you fuller coverage.

How it looks on the skin

My favourite part about this foundation is the finish. It has a gorgeous skin-like finish, with a natural luminosity that mimics healthy, smooth skin. I’m obsessed with how subtly radiant, even, and smooth this makes my skin look! It’s my skin but better.

Importantly, this foundation smooths over pores, dry patches, and fine lines without emphasising texture. It also does a great job of concealing redness and pigmentation. If you’re someone who likes light coverage, you could use a concealer to subtly cover any redness or dark patches on your skin for an even more natural look.

Comfort and wear

This is a very comfortable foundation to wear. Although my t-zone became oily during my wear test, the rest of my foundation stayed intact, fresh, and comfortable, with very little fading and no patchiness. It’s breathable, and once applied, it barely feels like you’re wearing foundation at all.

The foundation slightly oxidises. It’s barely noticeable, but on my skin tone it became a bit darker after a couple of minutes.

Importantly, this foundation layers gorgeously with other makeup products. My usual concealer, setting spray, setting powder, bronzer, blush, and highlighter all blended beautifully with this foundation, with zero pilling, transfer, or muddiness.

The skincare claims and value

In terms of the skincare benefits of this foundation, I agree that the foundation is hydrating, plumping, and smoothing. But when it comes to repairing my skin and improving its overall condition, I’ve not noticed any difference. However, I don’t often wear makeup, so it’s not like I’m using this foundation every day to monitor any benefits from daily use.

As for value, this foundation delivers high-quality results. It has a beautiful skin-like finish, layers gorgeously, wears well throughout the day, feels comfortable, and offers flexible coverage. I think you’d be hard pushed to find similar results from a drugstore foundation.

Conclusion

The Victoria Beckham Beauty Foundation Drops is a beautiful high-end complexion product that gives your skin a stunning radiant finish while feeling breathable and comfortable all day. If you like natural-looking, buildable foundations, this one is brilliant, it’s one of the best I’ve tried.

While the formula is excellent, I’m not convinced the performance is dramatically better than foundations costing half the price.

However, if you’re willing to spend over £100 on a luxury foundation, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the results. It’s a stunning formula.

Honest Dose & Co Collagen Peptides review

Despite being labelled as ‘unflavoured’, the Collagen Peptides Unflavoured Powder certainly has a taste. I’m not a fan of it. It’s on the bitter side and has a milky and earthy flavour. When mixed in with smoothies or other flavoured items, you can’t taste it. But if you just mix this directly into water, there is a noticeable taste.

This collagen peptide powder doesn’t mix well in water. While half of the formula will dissolve perfectly, the remaining powder clumps even after vigorous stirring. This makes the drink look unappealing and unpleasant to drink. However, I’ve had much better results when blending the collagen powder into smoothies. It blends seamlessly without clumping or altering the taste.

Price-wise, the Dose & Co Collagen Peptides is very reasonable. £26.99 for a 300g tub is way more affordable than many competitors. For comparison, the Revive Collagen Enhanced Plus formula costs £41.99 for just 14 sachets. So for people looking to try collagen without committing to an expensive purchase, Dose & Co is a good starting point.

I’m 30, with a few fine lines here and there, but my skin is overall firm and plump. I don’t have any wrinkles.

Since using the Dose & Co Collagen Peptides around 2-3 times a week over the last couple of months, I’ve not noticed a difference in my skin. There’s been no improvement in fine lines, plumpness, firmness, texture, tone, or elasticity in my skin. My skin does look slightly glowier, although I think this is more likely due to other products in my skincare routine.

The comparison

Fragrance notes

Both Prada Paradoxe and Zara Vibrant Caramel contain bergamot (a bright, sweet citrus with a soft floral edge), neroli (a clean and soft orange-blossom floral scent), tangerine (a fresh citrus), vanilla (a warm and sweet spice), and amber (a warm, smooth, and musky note). This means the perfumes are fresh, floral, and warm.

However, Prada Paradoxe has a more complex, intense, and sophisticated fragrance profile. It smells more floral, fresher, and muskier than its high street counterpart. The jasmine notes shine through, reminding me of a warm summer evening in Italy. I love how distinct this perfume smells, as it’s balanced, slightly sweet, and subtly floral. This is a gorgeous and unique signature fragrance.

In contrast, Zara Vibrant Caramel leans more gourmand and sweeter. Its vanilla notes are more prominent, and the floral notes are not as noticeable, making Zara Vibrant Caramel more “one note” than Prada Paradoxe, lacking its depth and sophistication. Yet, it has an appealing, yummy smoothness that I adore.

Prada Paradoxe’s luxury price point is its main drawback. I only wear this perfume on special occasions to ensure it lasts, whereas I spritz Zara Vibrant Caramel liberally daily. While I’d happily repurchase both perfumes, I’m far more willing to spend a very reasonable £16 on the high street perfume, but I’d think twice before spending on Prada!

Lasting power

Unsurprisingly, Prada Paradoxe has far more longevity than Zara Vibrant Caramel. Prada Paradoxe stays bright and intense for well over 12 hours. At the end of the day, the perfume is still prevalent, with little to no fading. Whereas Zara Vibrant Caramel fades significantly within 8 hours. While you can still smell the high street perfume at the 8-hour mark, it’s much more subtle, with only the gourmand vanilla note and musk still noticeable.

Packaging

Prada Paradoxe has the more eye-catching bottle design. Titled on its side in a triangular shape with contrasting colours of a coral pink bottle with black lettering and lid, this designer perfume looks beautiful in my collection. It’s weighty and feels expensive.

Zara Vibrant Caramel comes in a pretty black and brown ombré bottle, coupled with gold lettering, and delivers an elegant and chic touch. Despite the perfume only costing £16, the bottle is surprisingly weighty.

Honest thoughts on the Prada Paradoxe dupe

Overall, Zara Vibrant Caramel is a good dupe for Prada Paradoxe. Both perfumes are feminine, floral, slightly sweet, and subtly musky, evoking a similar feel. While Prada Paradoxe is more complex, long-lasting, and intense, Zara Vibrant Caramel is way more affordable and still smells delicious.

Dupe similarity rating: 7/10

They don’t smell identical, but they share a similar fresh-floral-amber structure. If you want the radiance and sophistication of Paradoxe, choose Prada; if you want the same fresh-floral warmth for everyday wear, choose Zara.

Below, I’m going to share my honest review of each product in the Norse Organics Complete Acne Killer System 2.0 before providing my overall experience of the system.

1. Norse Organics Acne Killer Day Balm 2.0

About the product

The Acne Killer Day Balm 2.0 is designed to nourish the skin while leaving it with a gorgeous glow.  

To apply the balm, take a small amount on your fingertip and apply it all over your face every morning.

• Thistle oil: deeply nourishes and soothes skin
• Beeswax: moisturises and restores skin, making it great for people with a damaged skin barrier
• Sea buckthorn: an antioxidant that’s a good source of vitamin C
• Acne Killer Day Balm 2.0
• Pomegranate seed oil: soothes, restores, and moisturises skin
• Squalane: hydrates, prevents moisture loss, and strengthens the skin’s barrier

Review

I love the Acne Killer Day Balm 2.0.

This moisturising balm has a light citrusy and slightly botanical scent. Once applied, the scent doesn’t linger.

The balmy texture feels luxurious and rich. I’ve got sensitive combination skin and sometimes balms can be too heavy and greasy for my skin. Thankfully, this balm massages into my skin easily without feeling oily or like it’s clogging my pores. It absorbs into my skin fully within 5 minutes.

Importantly, the balm doesn’t pill. You only need a pea-sized amount for it to cover your entire face, so it’s a long-lasting product.

This moisturiser is wonderfully nourishing and soothing. If I’ve had a rosacea flare-up or my skin feels a bit irritated, this balm calms my skin and helps reduce redness. The hydration lasts all day too, with my skin feeling soft, smooth, and nourished by the end of the day.

This balm also makes my skin look radiant. The orange balm gives my skin an attractive golden tint.

In my experience, the Norse Organics Acne Killer Day Balm 2.0 has a subtler tint than the original 6-in-1 Daily Glow & Moisturize. I prefer this, as the new balm is more wearable while still giving my skin a fantastic glow. It also means I won’t overdo it and look too orange if I apply too much product.

2. Norse Organics Open Pores Acne Scrub 2.0

About the product

The Open Pores Acne Scrub 2.0 is a physical exfoliant that is supposed to exfoliate the skin and pores for smooth, glowing skin.

To use the pore scrub, take a pinch of powder with dry hands, mix it with water in your palms, scrub your face for 1-2 minutes, and then rinse off. Norse Organics advises using the scrub 2-3 times a week in the shower.

The ingredients in the scrub are:

• Apricot kernel powder: the kernels are used as the physical exfoliant in this scrub
• Rice flour: cleanses and balances excess oil
• Olive kernel powder: the kernels physically exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells
• Rose flower powder: cleanses and hydrates skin

Review

The Open Pores Acne Scrub 2.0 is unfortunately too harsh and abrasive for my skin. Although I’ve never tried a physical exfoliator that hasn’t made my skin inflamed, so this didn’t come as a surprise.  

Thankfully, following up with the Acne Killer Day Balm 2.0 completely calmed and restored my skin within a few hours. I will say that my skin felt wonderfully smooth after using the scrub.

Instead of using this exfoliator on my face, which is more sensitive, I will be using this as a body scrub instead, where my skin is less sensitive, especially on the soles of my feet which are drier.

If you’ve not got sensitive skin, you may get away with using the Open Pores Acne Scrub 2. But if you’ve got rosacea or sensitive skin like me, this is probably one to avoid.

I really like the Acne Scar Healer & Preventer 2.0.

This balm has a distinct herbal scent, which is strong and does stay on the skin. I find it really uplifting and invigorating.

Again, this has a rich and luxurious balm texture. I take a pea-sized amount of the balm and really massage it into my skin evenly. When used sparingly, the balm doesn’t feel greasy or heavy on my skin, and it sinks in fully within 5 minutes.

However, if I apply too much product, this can lead to a few breakouts, especially when paired with the Acne Killer Night Balm 2.0. Both are very nourishing formulas, so working in thin layers is the best for my combination skin, especially in oily areas.

The Acne Scar Healer & Preventer 2.0 feels soothing, restorative, and nourishing. If my skin feels irritated, this calming balm does an excellent job of rejuvenating my skin overnight. By morning, redness has completely disappeared, and my skin feels soothed.

I’ve not used this on an acne breakout yet, as my skin has been in pretty good condition while testing this balm. So far, I’ve not noticed a difference in the appearance of any blemishes on my skin.

This is a great balm to maintain skin health and relieve any skin aggravation. I think it would be excellent for soothing any acne irritation and scars.

I love the Norse Organics Acne Killer Night Balm 2.0.

This balm has a subtler scent than the Acne Killer Day Balm 2.0. It’s lightly floral and disappears within a few minutes of application.

Again, this has the same sumptuous and rich texture as the day balm. A pea-sized amount is enough to cover your face, and it massages effortlessly into the skin. Within 5 minutes, the balm fully absorbs into my skin. It’s not greasy or heavy and doesn’t pill.

The night balm is a gorgeous mustard yellow colour that makes my skin look glowy. The tint it gives my skin is lighter than the day balm, which I like.

I love how this balm instantly hydrates my skin. It feels like a cross between a moisturiser and a facial oil, as it’s ultra-nourishing. This balm feels a tad sticky, but because you apply it at nighttime, it’s not an issue. It also doesn’t transfer onto pillows or make a mess. This feels more moisturising than the day balm.

By morning, my skin feels incredibly soft and smooth. It makes my skin look and feel super healthy. I can see this being a saviour in the winter, when the central heating can make my skin drier than usual. It’s really restorative and yummy on the skin.

Overall Norse Organics Complete Acne Killer System 2.0 review

I’m impressed with the Norse Organics Complete Acne Killer System 2.0.

I used my cleansers and a dedicated SPF while testing the new Norse Organics products, but I didn’t use toners, serums, essences, facial oils, or other moisturisers.

Overall, I think this system is a great way to nourish, restore, soothe, soften, and brighten skin. The textures are luxurious, massage into the skin seamlessly, and leave my skin in a better condition than previously. I particularly love the system’s ability to calm any redness I have if I have a rosacea flare-up.

While I didn’t get on with the pore scrub, the other 3 products have become staples in my routine for hassle-free, straightforward skincare.

It feels like nowadays every brand is pushing out a constant wave of products, all promising to make your skin look and feel amazing. And it can be exhausting.

Dr. Idriss stood out to me as a brand with an authentic identity. Its product line is well thought-out, rooted in science, and uncomplicated. Founded by board-certified dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idriss, Dr. Idriss focuses on evidence-based and effective formulations that are clinically tested, non-irritating, and free from fragrance.

In this review, I share my honest experience of using Dr. Idriss and whether the products have made any noticeable difference to my skin after testing them for the last 6 weeks.

1. Dr. Idriss The Depuffer

About the product

The Depuffer Roll-On Serum is a cooling, lightweight gel designed to help calm visible puffiness and redness. You can use the metal roller applicator under the eyes or on any area that feels warm, irritated, or swollen. It claims to be suitable for all skin types. The roller design delivers a cooling sensation on application.

Key ingredients include niacinamide, which can help improve the look of uneven tone and support the skin’s barrier; centella asiatica, often used to support barrier repair and soothe irritation; and arnica, which helps reduce the look of swelling.

Use it after cleansing and before moisturiser — twist to the “on” position to dispense a small amount, roll over the skin, then pat in any leftover gel.

In an independent clinical and consumer perception study of 28 subjects after 5 minutes and 4 weeks using The Depuffer, 92% of users said it soothed irritation, 92% said their skin felt refreshed, and 88% reported a reduction in signs of redness.

The Depuffer has won multiple awards, including: Allure Best of Beauty 2023, Marie Claire Skin and Hair Award 2024, and Refinery29 Beauty Innovator 2023.

Review

I’m a fan of The Depuffer.

Let’s start with the packaging and application. The roller design makes it easy to smooth the product across your face, and it has a lovely cooling and soothing sensation when you apply it, which is exactly what you want if your skin feels inflamed, red, or puffy. Beyond using the serum when I have a rosacea flare-up or if my skin feels aggravated, this would be an amazing summer skincare product for keeping your skin cool and fresh when it’s hot. However, I could see the roller getting messy over time, as it dispenses quite a lot of product, so you’d need to keep on top of cleaning it to ensure it doesn’t get gross.

This roll-on serum does a great job of relieving irritation, reducing puffiness, and calming redness within an hour. I don’t typically get puffy undereyes, but when I do, this helps calm them quickly.

While this serum doesn’t treat rosacea, I use it if my rosacea flares up or after a workout when my skin is warm and red for fast-acting relief. It’s also a fantastic choice if you’ve aggravated your skin barrier as a soothing, skin-friendly option.

This formula is kind to my combination, sensitive skin. The serum looks tinted but turns invisible once you’ve massaged it into your skin.

Rating: 4.5 stars

This is a great serum to have on hand for when your skin is red or irritated.

2. Dr. Idriss Major Fade

About the product

The Dr. Idriss Major Fade Flash Mask is an exfoliating mask meant to brighten dull skin and smooth texture. It’s formulated to be used a few times a week in the evening as a rinse-off step. This exfoliator claims to be suitable for all skin types, improve uneven skin tone, and reduce redness.

This mask incorporates glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that helps remove dead surface skin cells to improve texture and tone; lactic acid, another AHA that gently exfoliates and can also help boost hydration; and tranexamic acid, which been shown to help fade visible discolouration and reduce the look of redness. Glycerin is included to attract and retain moisture while exfoliating.

Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin, leave on for 10-15 minutes, and rinse off. It’s designed to work with the rest of your routine rather than replace your usual cleanser or moisturiser.

In an independent clinical and consumer perception study of 29 subjects after 8 weeks using the Dr. Idriss Major Fade Solution System, 100% of users reported brighter and more radiant skin, 97% reported a more even skin tone, and 90% reported a reduction in the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

Review

I love the Dr. Idriss Major Fade Flash Mask.

The squeezy tube means you can dispense the product onto your fingertips and control the amount you apply to your skin. The texture is gel-like and smooths over the skin easily. It feels a little tacky once applied and as it dries down, but this is common with these types of masks.

I feel a tingling sensation when I’ve applied this mask. However, Dr. Idriss states that this is normal, and it didn’t feel irritating. The mask rinses off effortlessly, leaving no greasy residue behind.

As someone with rosacea and sensitive skin, I’m cautious not to overdo it with exfoliators, as overuse can damage my skin barrier and cause redness. I typically use an exfoliating product once or twice a week. For this mask, I used it once every other week in the evening.

There has been a noticeable immediate and long-term improvement in my skin since using this mask.

When I rinse the mask off, my skin instantly looks more radiant with a smooth and even complexion. It gives my skin an undeniable healthy glow. My skin doesn’t feel aggravated or look red after using this either, which is sometimes the case when I use exfoliating products. In the longer-term, this mask has made my skin tone more even. I think it’s helped reduce some redness in my skin overall as well.

I’m a massive fan of this gentle exfoliating face mask. It’s been a great option to implement into my skincare routine without making my rosacea flare up.

The texture is balm-like but still comfortable rather than heavy, making it handy for daily use or overnight. This balm claims to be the solution to sore, dry, and chapped lips.

The formula includes squalane, a lightweight emollient that helps smooth and hydrate; ceramides, which help reinforce barrier function and retain moisture; oat oil/extract, known for antioxidant and soothing effects; and shea butter, an emollient that helps soften dry skin.

Just squeeze a small amount from the tube and smooth it over your lips. You can wear it on its own, under lip colour, or as a thicker layer at night.

I really like the Dr. Idriss Barrier Baste.

This has a thick, rich, and sticky consistency. It squeezes out of the tube as a gloopy formula, but it smooths over the lips seamlessly. As this does stay tacky on the lips, I’d only use it as a protective, overnight nourishing treatment. Otherwise, if I’m outside, I know my hair will get stuck in the sticky formula. Gross.

I frequently suffer from dry lips. It feels like I constantly have to apply lip balm to keep them feeling comfortable. The Barrier Baste does a great job at instantly moisturising, soothing, and softening my lips. It provides immediate relief, alongside a noticeable improvement in the morning, as my lips feel nourished, repaired, and protected.

Since using this balm, my lips feel less dry and chapped overall, and they’re more comfortable day-to-day. This is a heavy-duty formula that will work wonders at restoring your lips to a comfortable, soft, and hydrated condition.

Overall Dr. Idriss review

Dr. Idriss is a brand that cuts through the noise of an overcrowded and often unoriginal skincare market. All of the products are effective, meet their claims, are clearly designed to target and treat a specific skin concern, and feel unique and authentic.

It’s obvious that these formulas have been created by an experienced dermatologist, as they truly work for skin and fill a gap in the market. They’re not gimmicky, and they have a purpose.

All 3 products in this review have improved the look and feel of my skin, both in the short and long term. I’d happily purchase them with my own money, and I look forward to trying more products from Dr. Idriss.

20. Avon Ultra Satin Lipstick

This Avon Ultra Satin Lipstick is quite nice. It glides on easily, imparts a natural flush of colour, and is comfortable. I like the nude pink shade, as it’s soft and subtle. However, I never reach for this formula as it wears off within a couple of hours. IMO, it’s obvious this isn’t a high-quality lipstick.

19. Colourpop Velvet Blur Lipstick

Discontinued

The Colourpop Velvet Blur Lipstick is cute. It delivers a blurred lip and can really change your makeup look. However, this pink lip shade is way more vibrant on the lips than it is in the bullet. The shade doesn’t suit me, and, despite being comfortable and wearing quite well, I just never reach for it. The formula is good, but nothing special.

18. e.l.f. SRSLY Satin Lipstick

Discontinued

For a drugstore lipstick, the e.l.f. SRSLY Satin Lipstick is nice. It’s smooth, creamy, comfortable, and delivers medium pigmentation. I like this cool-toned brown nude. It’s wearable and works with a good range of neutral- and cool-toned makeup looks. I just don’t reach for this formula often, as there are other ones in my collection that perform better.

17. Milani Color Fetish Shine Lipstick

The Milani Color Fetish Shine Lipstick is a lovely drugstore option for a smooth, satin lipstick. This one is surprisingly pigmented for a shiny formula. It’s not particularly balmy, but the shiny nature of this lipstick means it wears off within a few hours. But the formula glides on, feels comfortable, and gives lips a hydrated and smooth finish. The colour is quite intense, so I don’t reach for it regularly.

16. Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle

Discontinued

The Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle is a classic matte lipstick. Very long-wearing, fantastic colour payoff, and a range of rich, impactful shades. These have been discontinued, and I can largely see why. Fenty Beauty’s other lipstick formulas are better. The Mattemoiselle formula is fairly drying and can cling to lip texture, which isn’t flattering. However, the Mattemoiselle range had some great orange-toned shades, which are typically hard to find. They also wear exceptionally well without budging.

15. Natasha Denona I Need a Nude Lipstick

The Natasha Denona I Need a Nude Lipstick offers medium, buildable pigmentation, a pretty range of nude shades, and feels smooth and comfortable on the lips. It delivers a satin matte finish that looks natural and glides on the lips effortlessly. But it fades fairly quickly. While I think this formula is nice, for a mid-to-high-end lipstick, the quality doesn’t blow me away. There are better lipsticks out there that cost less. I’m also not a massive fan of the shade Natasha. It washes me out and looks quite grey, even though the bullet itself doesn’t look cool-toned. It’s one I have to pair with a gloss to make the colour work for my complexion.

14. Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick

The Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick is an underrated drugstore satin, shiny formula. Although the shade Baddest Beige doesn’t appear to be stocked anymore, I love how effortlessly this formula slips on. It’s creamy, hydrating, smoothing, and makes lips instantly look fuller and plumper. Baddest Beige is a gorgeous neutral light beige that pairs well with loads of lip liners and is ideal for when you want a more washed-out lip look. I sometimes pair it with a darker gloss on top for a richer colour, which looks so pretty. Being shiny, it wears off within a few hours, which is the downside.

13. HNB Cosmetics Creamy Soft Satin Lipstick

The HNB Cosmetics Creamy Soft Satin Lipstick is a smooth and moisturising formula. This is a nude lipstick range and is perfect if you want an elevated concealer lip look. It blends easily and can be blurred for a softer finish. However, this lipstick can feel a bit heavy on the lips and wears off quickly. But I love the finished look.

12. Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick

Discontinued

While Anastasia Beverly Hills still makes matte lipsticks, the specific Matte Lipsticks I own from the brand have been discontinued. It’s a shame because while these lipsticks are a bit on the dry side, I love the shade range. I own a soft petal pink, peachy nude, and rosy brown, which are all gorgeous and wearable. As this formula is a bit drier, the lipsticks also have great lasting power and do not budge once applied. There are better matte lipsticks on the market, though.

11. Chanel Rouge Allure

I’ve had this Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in my collection for years and still think fondly of it. This is a classic Chanel red in a vibrant, slightly luminous, and comfortable formula. It glides on seamlessly, stays put for hours, and doesn’t cling to any dry patches on the lips. Despite being a great lipstick, I prefer ones that are smoother, creamier, and more hydrating.

10. Makeup by Mario SuperSatin Lipstick

£29.90

The Makeup by Mario SuperSatin Lipstick is one of the most pigmented satin lipsticks I’ve tried. With a lovely shine, this lipstick delivers an intense, saturated colour. It’s silky, creamy, and wears surprisingly well for a satin finish. It will stay put for a good 6 hours with minimal top-up required. This is really flattering too, as it doesn’t look dull or dry on the lips.

9. Pat McGrath Labs LuxeTrance Lipstick

Discontinued

The Pat McGrath Labs LuxeTrance Lipstick has been discontinued. It’s a shame because the formula is lovely. It’s velvety, richly pigmented, and feels expensive. The lipstick is creamy, offers a slight sheen, and doesn’t budge, flake, or transfer throughout the day. It wears all day and night. Plus, it’s pretty hydrating and feels lightweight on the lips. I don’t reach for this lipstick often, but I still really like it.

8. Chanel Rouge Coco

Chanel Rouge Coco is a gorgeous satin lipstick. This formula offers medium, buildable colour payoff, a gorgeous creamy formula, smooth application, and a flattering sheen. My lips feel hydrated, comfortable, and nourished. It wears well, lasting a good 4 hours before needing any sort of reapplication. This lipstick feels effortlessly chic, timeless, and sophisticated. It’s a stunning rosewood mauve that looks good with every makeup look.

7. Glossier Generation G

Glossier Generation G is the most unique formula in this post. This lipstick provides a distinct, blurred, diffused, and soft-edged lip look that gives your lips a cloud-like finish. It’s completely weightless and provides a smooth flush of colour that looks as though it’s your actual lip colour. I own the shade Zip, which is a stunning poppy red that is wearable, dialled down, and reminiscent of a warm summer’s evening. I love this formula.

6. Lisa Eldridge True Velvet Lip Colour

The Lisa Eldridge True Velvet Lip Colour is the most long-wearing lipstick in this post, lasting up to 10 hours without budging, smudging, fading, or flaking. I’ve got the shade Velvet Ribbon, which is the classic pillarbox red. This is a neutral/blue-red that suits everybody. If I want a statement red lip that’s vivid, bold, and makes my lips look smooth and full, this is the one I reach for. The formula is creamy, velvety, moisturising, and non-drying. It never looks dull or flat.

5. Huda Beauty Power Bullet Matte Lipstick

I was surprised to learn that the Huda Beauty Power Bullet Matte Lipstick has been discontinued, as the formula and shade are gorgeous. It’s a neutral-toned soft nude pink in a formula that’s creamy and nourishing. My lips feel silky and smooth when I’ve applied this lippie, while delivering a natural matte finish that doesn’t look flat, dull, or one-dimensional. This is the lipstick I go for when I want a reliable shade that looks good with everything and a formula that wears well without fading patchily.

4. MAC MACximal Silky Matte Lipstick

The MAC MACximal Silky Matte Lipstick is perhaps the most iconic matte lipstick in this post. I still own the older version of this formula, but it has since been upgraded to a newer, silkier, and smoother consistency. My version is perhaps a little bit on the dry side, but this is completely forgiven, as this cult classic does not budge, wears for 8 hours without fading, and has the best shade range on the market. MAC’s matte nudes provide a brilliant array of undertones to ensure you can find a colour that works for your complexion. MAC Chili is my fave red lipstick of all time – a warm brick red that’s wearable, flattering, and versatile.

3. Tom Ford Lip Colour

The Tom Ford Lip Colour is my fave satin lipstick of all time. These lippies are insanely pigmented, offering rich, multi-dimensional colours that look and feel expensive. While £49 is a lot of money for a lipstick, this formula is a standout. The colours are creamy, glide on in just 1 swipe, feel comfortable, and stay vivid on my lips for hours and hours. The shine reflects the light beautifully to ensure your lips look smooth, plump, and full. If I’m after a bold lip look that’s sure to get compliments, this formula is my go-to.

2. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution

The Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution is my number 1 matte lipstick. This offers everything I want in a matte formula: long-wearing, creamy, hydrating, matte but not flat, non-drying, comfortable, easy to apply, buildable, and transfer-proof. Pillow Talk is the ultimate nude pink lipstick that I reach for time and time again. There’s a reason why this shade is universally loved and revered! It always looks phenomenal and works with so many different makeup looks. This formula makes lips look soft and kissable. I’m obsessed and will always repurchase it.

1. MAC MACximal Sleek Satin Lipstick

The MAC MACximal Sleek Satin Lipstick is my favourite bullet lipstick formula. It’s shiny, smoothing, nourishing, flattering, pigmented, buildable, comfortable, has good lasting power, and makes lips look juicy and plump. While this satin formula isn’t as long-lasting as its matte counterpart, I just love the sheen and visible hydration that this formula imparts. It always makes lips look conditioned with a rich, creamy colour that can be dialled up or down, depending on your mood. Of course, MAC’s shade range is to die for, with everything from flesh-toned beiges and mid-toned plums to reddish browns and dusty lavenders. I can’t praise this formula enough and am always looking at new colours from this beautiful range. It’s just the best.
