Using the LumaLux Face Pro: My honest experience

In this section, I share my results after using the Project E Beauty LED Mask. I’m 30 with combination sensitive skin. I have a few fine lines around my eyes and forehead. I’ve also got rosacea, which is largely under control but presents itself when I get warm, such as when I’m around central heating or after a workout.

How I added it to my routine

Adding the LumaLux Face Pro to my skincare routine was easy. You’re advised to use the device 3-5 times a week. I used the device 3 times a week as part of my evening skincare routine.

I cycled between 2 modes: Red + infrared + deep infrared light and yellow light wavelength.

After completing my session, I applied my usual evening skincare routine: toner, serum, night cream, and sometimes a facial oil.

Comfort and ease of use

The Project E Beauty LumaLux Face Pro is comfortable to wear and very easy to use. The instructions in the owner’s manual are clear and straightforward.

One of my biggest gripes with a lot of LED masks is how long each treatment session takes. A lot of them require 10 minutes per session. I know this doesn’t sound like much, but it becomes inconvenient. After a while, I end up forgetting about these LED masks, as they don’t easily slot into my routine.

Thankfully, the LumaLux Face Pro only requires a 6-minute session, which is convenient and way more manageable. I found it easy to integrate this mask into my skincare routine without it feeling like a hassle.

It’s also very comfortable. The silicone mask is flexible and lightweight. I’ve tried other LED masks that are made from a hard plastic and are quite heavy, which causes discomfort after a while. The built-in eye protection with the LumaLux Face Pro is a welcome addition.

I wish the straps were adjustable, though. The LED mask is too big for my head. While you can just place the Velcro straps higher (towards the crown of your head) so it fits better, having adjustable straps would make the fit better.

My results after 8 weeks

I initially used the LumaLux Face Pro for 4 weeks but didn’t see any noticeable results. After 8 weeks of consistent use, I began seeing results. I also increased several of my session times to 6 minutes, which is recommended by the brand if you want to see faster results.

Overall, I’ve seen some improvements in my skin. The fine lines on my forehead and around my eyes have slightly decreased. There’s also less persistent redness on my cheeks since using the device, which I’m grateful for. Although using the LED mask has not reduced how often I get rosacea flare-ups.

Would I say my skin has been completely rejuvenated and looks more radiant than before? No. But has the mask helped ease redness and reduce fine lines, so I’ll keep using it.

How it compares with other LED masks I’ve tried

Compared to other LED masks I’ve tried, the LumaLux Face Pro is one of the best.

It’s more comfortable to wear than the Lustre ClearSkin Renew Pro Facewear and is also cheaper. Project E Beauty’s mask gave better and more noticeable results than Lustre ClearSkin’s mask.

The LumaLux Pro is comparable to the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2. Both of these LED masks are lightweight, flexible, and comfortable. CurrentBody Skin’s version had a better effect on my rosacea, while Project E Beauty’s mask reduced the fine lines on my skin.

The LumaLux Face Pro is also much better than the brand’s original (and now discontinued) Photon Skin Rejuvenation Face & Neck Mask, which became quite uncomfortable to wear and required longer treatment sessions.

Final verdict: Is the Project E Beauty LumaLux Face Pro worth it?

The Project E Beauty LumaLux Face Pro is absolutely worth it! For those seeking a customisable, flexible, and convenient skincare routine with noticeable results, this LED mask delivers a tonne of skin benefits, which you can tailor to your own goals.

Rating: 4.5 stars

This mask is also great for travelling, as it’s lightweight and the battery lasts for around 32 sessions. It’s a device I’d bring with me for a long weekend away somewhere. The only caveat is to be vigilant with SPF after using this LED mask, as it can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays.

How to use the LED mask

Follow the simple steps below to use the LED mask:

1. Make sure your device is fully charged. It takes 2-3 hours for a full charge.
2. Cleanse your skin and pat dry. Gently put the mask on your face and secure it using the device’s strap.
3. Hold down the power button to turn the device on.
4. Select your light therapy treatment. You can do this by pressing the power button again to cycle through either a red light therapy treatment or a purple light therapy treatment. Alternatively, you can use the accompanying Lustre app to create a more customised session with preferred lights aimed at different areas of the face.
5. Enjoy the session. After 10 minutes, the device will automatically turn off.
6. Clean the mask after every session with a damp cloth to maintain hygiene.

For the purple light setting, use the device 4 times a week for 6 weeks. For the red light setting, use the device 5 times a week for 6 weeks.

Lustre doesn’t specify how frequently to use the device after the initial 6-week period. I’d opt for 1-2 times a week to maintain the benefits.

Honest Lustre ClearSkin Renew Pro Facewear review

I’ve been using the Lustre ClearSkin Renew Pro Facewear for about 6 weeks. Admittedly, I’ve not used this device as frequently as Lustre suggests. Instead of 4 times a week for 6 weeks, it’s been around 1-2 times a week. I exclusively used the purple light therapy setting during this time. Instead of using the app to personalise my treatment, I used the default purple light setting.

Starting with the packaging, the device comes in a neat box that includes a USB-C charger, head strap, and carry bag. The instruction manual is refreshingly clear with easy-to-follow instructions. Charging was quick, and there weren’t a tonne of warnings and contraindications to read.

The mask is made from a fairly soft and somewhat flexible silicone material. Unlike many other LED masks, this one is comfortable, as it’s not made from a hard plastic material that can feel heavy. While this isn’t the lightest mask I’ve tried, it’s still pretty comfortable. But I find it most comfortable when I’m lying down. If I sit up, sometimes the mask slips down a bit and becomes a bit heavy after a few minutes.

In terms of results, I’ve seen some improvements in my skin since using the purple light therapy setting. My skin tone appears more even, and I’ve noticed a reduction in excess oil on my skin. Normally, when the weather is warm, that’s when I notice my skin is a little oilier than usual, but I think the mask has helped regulate that a bit.

In terms of preventing future breakouts, which the mask claims to do, I’ve still had the odd spot appear, so there’s been no change there. I’ve also not noticed a difference in my skin looking brighter or more radiant. There’s been no effect on my rosacea.

Rating: 3.5 stars

Ultimately, I think the Lustre ClearSkin Renew Pro Facewear has improved my skin, but the results are marginal. But I also acknowledge that if I’d worn this device as frequently as advised, I’d probably have seen more visible results.

The fit of the mask is comfortable. I like that the goggles don’t restrict your eyesight, as some protective goggles completely cover your eyes while using certain LED masks. This makes it convenient to use, as I can watch some TV or scroll through TikTok while the treatment is in session.

Overall, I think this is a decent at-home LED therapy mask, but I’ve not seen major results.

Unsurprisingly, the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 is brilliant.

Compared to the Series 1 Mask, I agree that it fits the face better. It feels comfortable on the skin and isn’t heavy at all. I’ve tried some LED face masks previously that are hard, uncomfortable, and heavy, which is inconvenient. Thanks to the silicone material, the Series 2 Mask is flexible, lightweight, and comfortable.

However, it doesn’t fit well around the mouth area on me well, as my upper lip ends up being higher than the designated mouth hole.

But the LED lights cover my entire face, ensuring even and consistent treatment. Plus the eye inserts you can put on the mask ensure your eyes are protected from the bright red lights without restricting your vision, unlike many LED face masks that require you to wear protective goggles.

The skincare device is portable too. The power outlet for the mask can be easily clipped to your clothes, making it convenient and easy to use.

As for the results, I’ve only been using this red light therapy mask for a few weeks, so I’ve not seen a difference in the fine lines on my skin yet. However, it’s definitely helped reduce redness and made my skin look more radiant. So far, I’m really impressed, as not many products help combat my rosacea, but this mask has already made a difference!

Honest review

I’ve only been using the ZIIP Halo for around a week and can already tell I’m going to love this device!

Firstly, out of the microcurrent devices I’ve tried previously, this is the most comfortable to hold in your hand. The long oval shape fits comfortably in the palm of my hand without being too small, so it doesn’t mean an awkward grip on the device, which could lead to hand cramps. The device is also lightweight.

The accompanying conductive gel is the best I’ve tried. It’s quite thick and slippery, which means the metal globes glide effortlessly across my skin without any tugging or resistance. The texture is really satisfying, and my skin feels so hydrated and refreshed after using it.

I’ve not used the ZIIP App yet; instead, I use the pre-programmed mode. This takes 4 minutes to complete – with 2 minutes on each side of your face. The microcurrent device comes with a booklet, where an image shows you the directions to glide the device over your skin. I followed this and found it perfect for my skin.

Immediately after using the device, my skin looks radiant, feels firmer and smoother, and appears more lifted. Once the minimal redness has subsided (totally normal!), my skin has that post-facial fresh face look, but all from the comfort of my own home. I love how convenient this device is to use. I can incorporate it into my skincare routine easily.

My friend very kindly tested the JOVS Venus Pro II for this review.

She is a light-skinned but (incredibly) dark- and coarse-haired woman who has always struggled with painful ingrown hairs and speedy hair regrowth. She’s previously always epilated both her legs and armpits, as shaving alone leaves her skin very irritated, and the hair grows back too quickly for her to be able to maintain.

She was a perfect candidate for the IPL device due to the criteria and was eager to see if a more permanent hair removal treatment would work for her.

First impressions

Upon first impressions, I thought that the device itself was absolutely beautiful with great packaging. I loved the forest green colour, and the device is both sleek and stylish. The device came with very clear instructions and appeared basic enough for first-time use.

My one huge positive takeaway was that the instruction manual was incredibly transparent about the potential for the product to not work. It also offered extensive guidance on what to do if the product fails or if you experience any difficulties/abnormalities using it. This reassured me a lot, as I didn’t know a lot about using this kind of product and was quite hesitant about using for the first time.

Before first use, I fully exfoliated, cleansed, and shaved (with the razor provided) all the areas that I wanted to test. I was careful to ensure that the areas were fully dry so that the device would be as effective as possible.

It’s incredibly easy to switch settings for each area of treatment, so I adjusted these accordingly to match which areas I was tackling at the time. I decided to just focus on my legs and armpits – these are my problem areas if you will, so I prioritised these for this reason.

It’s also incredibly important to wear the protective glasses provided with the device whilst using it. Even whilst wearing them, the light emitted was sometimes very bright, and so I was careful to use the device as flush with my skin as possible to prevent seeing the flashes.

A disappointing factor is that the device isn’t portable and has to be connected to a plug socket at all times, but this didn’t actually interfere with my usage of the device as much as I thought it would. (JOVS also has a Mini Wireless IPL Hair Removal Device, which is a convenient wireless device. But it’s not as powerful as the Venus Pro II).

As recommended, I tested an area before fully using the device and also then started off on the lowest setting for my whole treatment. Although it’s advised to up the levels based on your pain tolerance and hair type, I kept it low for my first use.

I was incredibly surprised at how light and easy to use the device was. Due to the rotating head, it was super easy to get to those harder-to-reach areas. It only took me around 15 minutes to finish using the device on both my armpits and entire lower legs. I enjoyed being able to activate the auto mode by holding down the lightning bolt button for 3 seconds; this mode saved me a lot of time and also made the device slightly easier to use over larger areas.

Now onto what you’ve all been waiting for… THE PAIN.

I was pleasantly surprised at how painless the device was to use. I found that my armpits were the most sensitive area to treat, but the pain was little more than a slight shock! I actually found that the heat from the device was slightly more uncomfortable than any other reaction I experienced, but it was only ever that: uncomfortable.

To lessen the discomfort, the device has an automatic cooling mode setting (this can be turned off if the user finds it too cool), which helps lessen the burning sensation. I also found that the zaps actually lessened the more that I used the device and upped the intensity levels, presumably because of me getting used to the sensation.

The verdict

I’ll start with the cons, as there really weren’t many!

Firstly, this is a product that you really have to plan in time out of your day to use. I really struggled to see noticeable results for a good few months of using the device at first because I just wasn’t using it consistently enough.

When following the recommended guidance, the device really is a commitment in the first few weeks, as it should be used around 3-4 times per week! I didn’t help with this one, as I decided to start using it a month before going on holiday and therefore had to stop using it because of the harmful additional UV exposure.

Overall, you do have to wait a little while to see a noticeable change, and if you’re impatient (like me) then it can get quite frustrating to wait around to hope for a difference in your hair regrowth.

Secondly, I’ve used the device consistently for nearly 4 months now and I’m still yet to notice any considerable difference in my armpit hair. My hair is incredibly coarse, so even with the sharpest and cleanest of shaves, I felt like I wasn’t getting an effective enough foundation for the device usage. Whether this is the cause or not is unconfirmed, but I’ll be sticking to epilation for my armpits due to my hair regrowth still being too quick for my liking.

Onto the pros…

I would entirely recommend this device overall, as I’ve seen noticeable and impressive results on an area that I didn’t expect to – my irritated legs! Would I continue to use this device? Absolutely! With the heavy caveat that around holiday times I would have to shave again a bit more due to not being able to use the device around times that my skin is directly exposed to sunlight.

Particularly for people with darker hair that is not as thick, this would absolutely work! A bit more perseverance would be needed for those thicker areas, but if you’re willing to wait to see results then it can absolutely be worth it.

My legs, once dry and irritated from repeated hair growth, are now so much smoother and less itchy. The hair on my legs grows back incredibly slowly now and, in some areas, has stopped growing back altogether, which I’m mega happy with!

The hair is also definitely much finer now, meaning that I now rarely get ingrown hairs, and I’m getting far less irritation as a result of this. I couldn’t be happier with this progress and it’s an incredibly low effort to maintain now, as I’m only having to use the device as a top-up when necessary.

The NuFace Mini is very straightforward to use. It comes with a Hydrating Aqua Gel that acts as a primer and helps the device glide over the skin easily. Follow the simple steps below:

1. After cleansing and drying your skin, apply the NuFace Hydrating Aqua Gel to your neck first.
2. Turn the device on, and pick your intensity (there are 3 options).
3. Glide it across your skin, starting at the front of your neck to the back. Stop when it beeps. Repeat 3 times.
4. Repeat on your jawline, cheek, and forehead. Add primer to each area before treatment.
5. Massage any leftover primer into your face and neck.
6. Repeat this process for 5 minutes a day, 5 times a week. Best results can be seen after 2 months.

Note: If you feel tingling during the treatment, just add more primer.

NuFace Mini before and after

Before the review, these before and after photos show the results of the NuFace Mini.

The after photos were taken following 1 week of inconsistent use (around twice a week) and then 2 weeks of consistent use (5 times a week). I used the device on my forehead, cheeks, jawline, and neck.

The after photos were taken directly following treatment to demonstrate any immediate improvements in my skin, such as it looking more scultped. I also wanted to show whether the device caused any redness.

I don’t think there’s any difference in my before and after photos. However, not all skin benefits are visible, which I discuss in more detail below.

Honest NuFace Mini review

I think the NuFace Mini is good.

Firstly, it’s very easy to set up and use. Charging was quick, and there is only 1 button you need to press to turn on the device and cycle between the 3 intensities. NuFace Mini is lightweight, so there’s no arm ache when holding it either.

The Hydrating Aqua Gel is moisturising, cooling, and soothing. It helps the device glide effortlessly over the skin with no pulling, tugging, or resistance. It’s thin, non-sticky, and doesn’t absorb straight away, meaning you don’t have to keep reapplying the gel while using the NuFace Mini – at least, not in my experience.

With the NuFace Mini, I initially started with intensity 1. It didn’t feel like it was doing anything, so I moved to intensity 2 on the next treatment. I could feel non-painful stimulation with intensity 2. Then after around a week of using intensity 2, I went up to intensity 3. Again, it wasn’t painful at all, but I could feel some very light electrical pulses.

After using the microcurrent device, my skin feels immediately plumper and firmer. I find that makeup smooths over my skin beautifully shortly after using it, thanks to the plumpness. Despite the after photos not showing a difference, I can feel a difference in my skin.

So far, the NuFace Mini hasn’t improved fine lines or wrinkles, and I don’t think it makes my appearance more lifted. However, I’m hopeful that with continued use, I will see improvements in these areas too.

Do I recommend the NuFace Mini?

I definitely recommend the NuFace Mini for anyone looking for firmer and plumper skin. While the device is quite a considerable initial investment, the value for money is excellent, if you see yourself getting a lot of use out of it.

How to use the radio frequency device

Using the Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Device is very straightforward. Follow the simple steps below:

1. Remove all jewellery from the treatment area, before applying a liberal layer of the CurrentBody Radio Frequency Gel to clean, dry skin.
2. Plug in the mains power cable, and turn on your device. Select your energy level, and then touch the device to your skin.
3. Once the green light starts blinking, move the device slowly over your treatment area.
4. After 5 minutes, the light will turn orange, signalling that it’s time to move on to the next area.
5. Rinse away any excess gel and continue with your skincare regimen.

Use the device once a week for 8 weeks. Then treatments can be topped up every 4-8 weeks to maintain long-term results.

CurrentBody Skin RF Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Device before and after

Before the honest device review, these before and after photos showcase the results of the RF Skin Tightening Device.

The after photos were taken following 8 weeks of consistent use. The device was used once a week for around 40 minutes per session during the 8 weeks. My mum used the device on her forehead, cheeks, upper lip, and under-eyes.

These photos weren’t taken directly after a treatment to allow any redness to subside.

From the photos, you can see that fine lines and wrinkles have softened, the skin looks tighter and firmer, and the complexion overall looks radiant and smooth. There are some noticeable differences in the before and after photos.

Honest CurrentBody RF Device review

This review is based on Mum’s experience with the device and her feedback. And the verdict is that the CurrentBody Skin RF Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Device is excellent.

The instructions are easy to follow. Because the device is plugged directly into the mains, it means no charging is required, so you can get started right away.

A little bit of the CurrentBody Radio Frequency Gel goes a long way and helps the device glide smoothly over the skin. Mum didn’t need to top up the gel during her 40-minute treatments.

Importantly, the device is lightweight and easy to hold. You can use the device while watching TV without getting an armache. While she was getting used to using the device, Mum used a mirror to help with more precise gliding of the device over delicate areas, like under the eyes.

Heat bursts from the device come every few seconds. Although it’s warm, it’s comfortable. The warmth is most noticeable under the eyes where the skin is thinner.

The device blinks orange when it’s time to move onto a new treatment area, but it’d be good if it also bleeped to indicate to change area, as you could easily miss the orange light as it only lasts for 5 seconds.

After the treatment was finished, Mum’s skin felt warm to the touch but not hot or burnt. It also became redder but didn’t feel irritated. This redness subsided after an hour or so.

Mum said she is thrilled with the results, especially after seeing the before and after photos, and can’t think of any negatives about the device.

Her makeup has been applying more smoothly since using the device; her skin looks more lifted, tightened, radiant, and smoother; and fine lines and wrinkles have softened.

The non-invasive tool is designed to give a spa-like treatment from the comfort of your own home. Expect youthful, firmer, and more lifted skin in as little as 2 weeks.

It combines 4 treatments in 1 handheld device: red light therapy, galvanic current, facial massage, and therapeutic warmth.

LED red light therapy helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and blemishes; galvanic current is a non-invasive form of energy that helps boost the absorption of other skincare products so they work more effectively; facial massage helps to decrease puffiness and boost the skin’s natural glow; and therapeutic warmth can help to temporarily depuff the skin.

Renew Complex Activating Serum

The Renew Complex Activating Serum is designed specifically to work with the skincare wand and enhance its results. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and blue tansy, the serum absorbs easily and spreads across the face evenly. It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and fragrance-free.

Need-to-knows

Before getting started with the device, there are a few things to be aware of:

• DO NOT shine the device directly in your eyes. Only turn the device on when it’s in contact with your skin.
• Fully charge the device before use. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge.
• Before using the device, do a patch test on a small area of your skin with the serum, like on your wrist, to ascertain any potential irritation or sensitivity.
• The wand rotates 90 degrees in either direction for the perfect angle on your skin.
• Immediately stop using the device if you experience any adverse reactions, like discomfort, discolouration, irritation, burns, bruises, or dizziness, and contact a health professional.

How to use the Solawave skincare wand

Using the Solawave skincare wand is very straightforward. Follow the steps below:

1. Cleanse your skin and pat dry.
2. Apply a thin layer of the Solawave Activating Serum. Reapply if the product dries prior to starting the treatment. You can also use other serums and moisturisers.
3. Hold down the power button for 2 seconds to turn the device on. At this point, the red LED lights will turn on.
4. Start using the device on your skin, gliding it gently and slowly across each treatment area (forehead, neck, under-eyes, and cheeks). Always work in outwards and/or upward motions when gliding the device across your skin.
5. Use the device for 3 minutes on each treatment area. The wand’s vibration will turn on and off at the end of each 3-minute treatment cycle to indicate to move on to the next area.
6. The wand can be used for a max of 12 minutes, at which point the wand automatically turns off. You can turn the device off at any point during the treatment by holding the power button for 2 seconds.
7. And you’re finished! Be sure to clean the device after each use by wiping the head with a damp cloth or spraying a cloth with an alcohol-based steriliser.

Use the device once a day 3 times a week for maximum results.

Solawave skincare wand before and after

Before I dive into my Solawave review, I wanted to share a few before and after photos. The after photos were taken after 5 weeks of consistent use. I used the device around 3 times per week on my cheeks, forehead, and under-eye area for 3 minutes on each area for a total of 9 minutes per session.

These photos weren’t taken directly after a treatment to provide an indication of medium-term effects and to allow any redness to subside.

In the after photo, my skin looks more even, radiant, and smooth. Some of my blemishes have visibly reduced, my skin is less red, and my skin overall looks more radiant and smooth.

Honest Solawave skincare wand review

The Solawave 4-in-1 Radiant Renewal Skincare Wand & Activating Serum Kit is great. It’s one of the best skincare devices I’ve tried.

The device is super convenient. It’s incredibly lightweight and compact, which means you can take it with you while out and about without it taking up much space in your bag. It also comes with its own travel case. I don’t get arm ache when using the wand, unlike other devices I’ve used in the past that become heavy when holding them in the same position for a long period of time.

The wand comes in a pretty purple-pink gradient. It fully charged in 2 hours, which meant I could use the device quickly, without waiting for it to charge overnight.

I like that the wand’s head rotates 90 degrees in each direction, as it means you can get more precise with the placement of the wand. I only ever rotate the head once so that it’s horizontal to the rest of the wand, as I find this works best.

The Activating serum is light, cooling, and distributes effortlessly. It’s not sticky and feels hydrating. While it’s not a standout skincare product, it helps the Solawave skincare wand glide over my skin easily, without irritation.

The device feels warm but not hot on my skin. It’s comfortable. It feels warmest under my eyes where the skin is thinner. But the warmth is lovely and feels very therapeutic as the wand glides across my skin.

The red light is quite bright but easily avoided. The last thing you want to do is damage your eyes with a bright LED light being shone into them!

Immediately after using the Solawave device, my skin looks radiant, feels firmer, appears more lifted, and is noticeably smoother. If there’s any puffiness, this instantly disappears thanks to the warmth and massaging elements of the device. My skin feels a bit warm and looks a little red immediately after. However, it’s not irritating and disappears within an hour. It doesn’t aggravate my rosacea.

And after 5 weeks of consistent use, I think this skincare device meets most of its claims. The device has definitely reduced the appearance of blemishes, eases any puffiness, and makes my skin look glowy. It’s helped my skin feel a bit firmer and look more lifted, although these results are definitely most noticeable immediately after using the device. My complexion looks more even and less red overall too.

I’m not sure whether it’s increased absorption of other skincare products. I’ve not noticed any difference, but this isn’t something I can really test without being in a lab.

I’ve not noticed any improvement in fine lines. Although, I admittedly don’t have many fine lines at 28! I also don’t think this device improves dark circles.

The skincare wand has noticeably improved my complexion by reducing blemishes (which you can see in my before and after photos) and overall redness, making my skin firmer and smoother, and giving it a lovely glow. It’s very relaxing and satisfying to use, offering a warm massage for the face.

Next, it’s treatment time. You can either select the microcurrent intensity yourself and get working or download the accompanying FOREO app to follow a specific treatment. All of the treatments in the app are around 2.5 minutes. I’d highly recommend following the treatments in the app, as they’re really easy to follow and mean you target both sides of your face evenly. There are currently 3 treatments to choose from in the app, which target different areas of your face.

After doing your microcurrent treatment, simply follow up with your desired skincare. I typically use the device at night, so I apply a night cream after using FOREO Bear.

FOREO Bear before and after

Before I dive into my FOREO Bear review, I wanted to share a few before and after photos. The after photos were taken after 4 weeks of consistent use. I used the device around 5x per week and followed a 2.5-minute treatment from the app each time.

These photos show the before and after from the front, left side, and right side of my face. I didn’t take the photo directly after following a treatment to provide an indication of medium-term effects.

Even though there’s really not much difference in the before and after photos, I’ve got a lot more to discuss in my review below. I think my cheeks look a bit more toned and my jawline more defined. Especially in the front photo, I think my face overall looks a bit more lifted.

Honest FOREO Bear review

I’m genuinely impressed with FOREO Bear.

Firstly, this was surprisingly straightforward to set up. I’ve used several skincare devices where the instruction manual is unnecessarily lengthy. This one was super easy to follow. After charging the device for a few hours and registering it on the app, you can get started.

I love the look and feel of the device. The pretty silicone pink is very comfortable to hold and is also lightweight, so you don’t get any arm ache from holding up a weighty device. As the microcurrent device is small (palm-sized), it would be really convenient to travel with. I’d happily take this device on holiday!

Speaking of convenience, the battery life is fantastic. I accidentally didn’t turn the device off, and it stayed switched on for about 3 days. I even managed to get a treatment done when I finally realised! The fact that you can get 90 treatments out of a single charge is impressive, especially for a device so small.

FOREO Serum is cooling and hydrating, so it feels pleasant on the skin.

Even though the FOREO Bear before and after photos may not look really impressive, I’ve noticed a difference in my skin. My skin is noticeably more toned and lifted immediately after using the device. Although these effects only last for a few hours, it’s an effective way to make your face look more scultped quickly. And for medium-term results, my face is more toned and lifted since using the device.

But, something that my camera won’t pick up is the changes in how my skin feels. I can tell that it’s firmer, plumper, and smoother since using FOREO Bear.

The device also slightly reduced the appearance of the fine line on my forehead, which is fab.

I love following the app’s treatments. They’re super relaxing and fun. It also helps me evenly target both sides of my face.

Overall, I can definitely see an improvement in my skin since using FOREO Bear and can’t wait to keep using it to see further results.

Before and after photos

I’ve used the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask 4x a week for about 3 weeks. To show you whether the LED light mask has made any difference to my skin, I took some before and after photos!

As you can see, my skin is definitely less red in the after photo. Plus, it looks a bit smoother and shinier. But not all skincare results are visible, some of the benefits are to do with how your skin feels after a treatment.

Below, I’m going to break down my full thoughts on this flexible LED mask.

Honest CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask review

Based on the title of this post alone, it should come as no surprise that I truly love the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask.

Out of all of the LED light therapy devices I’ve tried, this one has the clearest instructions. The manual is simple and easy to follow. Before trying the mask, I knew exactly what I had to do. There’s nothing worse than a lengthy instruction manual and unnecessarily complex skincare processes! Also, the charging was quick and easy.

The mask itself has a fantastic design. It comes with adjustable straps, so it fits your head perfectly. Plus, the mask is flexible for a far more comfortable fit. A lot of other masks are hard and inflexible, which means they’re quite uncomfortable. Alternatively, handheld devices are more annoying to use, as you have to keep your hand in a similar position constantly.

Plus, one of my fave things about the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask is that you don’t have to wear protective eye goggles. You still can if you want to or are sensitive to light (the mask comes with protective goggles), but you don’t have to. It means I can watch TV while laying down with the mask on. Super convenient and the 10 minutes during treatment go so much faster.

Now, onto the skincare results.

My skin has improved since using this face mask. It’s helped my skin look and feel more even. Any uneven texture or complexion has reduced in the 3 weeks of trying this product. Also, if I have a breakout, the mask helps clear the breakout quicker than if I just left it.

The CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask also helps with redness if I have a rosacea flare-up. While it doesn’t drastically reduce redness, I can see a small difference after using the mask. And, as a full disclaimer, my rosacea is so much better since using Dermatica, so that is less of a concern anyway.

At 27, I don’t really have many fine lines or wrinkles. However, I’ve definitely seen an improvement in the fine lines under my eyes. They’re less prominent now, which is great!

Most notably, though, is the feeling of my skin since using the mask. It feels firmer, smoother, and tighter since using the LED device. I was most surprised by this result, as the difference is noticeable to the touch.

I wouldn’t say this mask particularly makes my skin glowy. Other skincare products in my collection are better at boosting glow, and that’s okay!

Overall, I’m super impressed with how the mask works, its ease of use, and my skin improvements. I will continue using the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask for even more skin benefits!

In today’s review, I’m going to be sharing my honest experience with the expensive IPL hair removal device Sensica Sensilight PRO.

Hair removal devices have become increasingly popular in the beauty community. With multiple COVID lockdowns over the past 3 years, people weren’t able to access beauty salons for long periods of time to receive a hair laser removal treatment. People turned to at-home machines to help reduce the growth of unwanted hair on their bodies.

But I appreciate that £375 is a lot to spend on a hair removal machine. However, compared to the cost of having a professional treatment in clinics, these devices are more affordable. Also, the intention is to completely remove hair and stop it from ever growing back in the long term, so that means no more money on shaving or waxing after your treatment is complete.

But is Sensica Sensilight PRO worth the expensive price tag? In this review, I talk about what IPL is, how this hair removal device works, my personal experience, the pros and cons of this machine, and whether I recommend it. Keep reading for my in-depth review.

What is Sensica?

Sensica is a medical aesthetics specialist that creates professional and innovative devices for personal use. Its technologies range from hair removal, wrinkle reduction, lifting, exfoliation, and cellulite reduction.

How does IPL hair removal technology work?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) for hair removal uses pulsing light energy to accurately target and remove hair follicles. Using a handheld device, you target multiple wavelengths of light at hair follicles to damage the root and help break the cycle of regrowth.

Over time, hair grows back less frequently and less hair grows back each time. With continued use, hair is permanently removed. Although results vary for each person, IPL brands will often cite that it can take around one year to achieve permanent hair removal.

IPL for darker skin tones

Typically, IPL devices don’t work for deeper complexions. IPL works by targeting darker pigment – i.e. the hair follicles. When the hair colour is similar to the skin tone, it’s difficult for IPL devices to pick up a contrast between the hair and skin, making the machines ineffective and potentially dangerous. The heat energy can incorrectly transfer to the skin and lead to a burn.

For people who are wondering whether Sensica Sensilight PRO will work for their complexion, Sensica uses the Fitzpatrick skin chart to determine whether you can use the machine. According to the brand, Sensilight PRO will work on all skin tones except for type VI (the deepest complexion).

For reassurance and peace of mind, Sensica Sensilight PRO has a built-in skin tone sensor. If the skin is too dark for safe treatment, the smart safety feature disables the device so you can’t use it.

It’s a shame that many at-home IPL devices don’t work for deeper complexions. However, darker skins can get laser hair removal at a clinic by a licensed professional to remove any unwanted hair, so there are other options for my melanin-rich readers out there.

What comes with the Sensica Sensilight PRO?

Sensica Sensilight PRO comes with the handheld IPL device, an external power supply for charging the device, a precise treatment window (great for use on the face), and a large treatment window (great for use on larger surface areas, such as legs and arms).

Sensica Sensilight PRO claims

An FDA-cleared machine, Sensica Sensilight PRO promises to give you permanently smooth and silky skin on your face and body.

This device builds on IPL technology with advanced reactive pulsed light (RPL) technology. RPL, according to Sensica, takes IPL technology one step further with unique sensors that constantly react to your skin’s specific needs with every single flash, ensuring a safe, fast and effective treatment.

Sensilight PRO claims to give you professional spa results, taking just 15 minutes to treat your lower legs. There’s also a unique energy recommendation setting, which advises the best level for your skin tone, so you don’t have to think about it!

Although it can take about 3-4 treatments before you start seeing results, Sensica says that as you progress through the treatment, hair will naturally and gradually fall out. The speed of this process varies from person to person.

Preliminary testing

You’re strongly advised to do a preliminary test before using Sensilight PRO for a large treatment area to determine your skin’s reaction to the device and to select the best energy level. Perform the preliminary test on each area you intend to treat 48 hours before the first full use.

I can’t recommend doing one of these tests enough. The last thing you want is to go ahead and treat your arms, for example, only to have a severe reaction, which could result in a trip to the doctor and pain, irritation, swelling, and discomfort. Avoid any potential problems with a preliminary test for safety and peace of mind.

To do a preliminary test, follow these steps:

1. Use the energy recommendation button to automatically detect the optimal energy level for each treatment area. Make sure this energy level feels comfortable before continuing
2. Alternatively, select the lowest energy level. Deliver a pulse on the selected area and continue like this, increasing one energy level at a time for as long as it feels comfortable
3. Stop the test immediately if you don’t feel comfortable with a particular energy level or experience adverse effects like severe redness or blistering
4. Wait 48 hours to examine the area(s). If the skin appears normal or if there is a mild response (mild redness), you can proceed with a full treatment at the highest comfortable energy level tested. If there is an adverse reaction, even on the low energy settings, do not carry out the full treatment in that area

Skin prep

After fully charging Sensica Sensilight PRO (it takes about 2.5 hours) and doing a preliminary test, you can get started.

To prepare your skin for use, ensure all jewellery is removed and that the hair in the treatment area is trimmed or shaved. The skin should be free from any residue of creams, gels, makeup, powders, antiperspirants or deodorants. Between treatments, you can shave, but not wax or pluck the hair.

Don’t use flammable liquids like alcohol or acetone to clean the skin for one hour before use, as it could cause the skin to burn.

How to use Sensilight PRO

Once your skin is prepped, here’s how to use the Sensilight PRO:

1. Turn the device on and either manually choose an energy level or use the energy recommendation setting
2. Place the Sensilight PRO treatment window on the intended treatment area, ensuring it’s in full contact with the skin
3. Press the trigger button to release a single light pulse. Following each pulse, move the device to the next spot
4. You can either do these pulses manually, or you can choose the glide mode. To use the glide mode, begin the treatment in the standard pulse mode. After 3 consecutive pulses without releasing the trigger button, the device will automatically enter glide mode, releasing continuous pulses every 1-3 seconds, as long as there is proper contact with the skin and the skin tone is viable for IPL usage. Glide mode automatically stops when the device is not in full contact with the skin
5. Finish treatment and turn the device off

During the treatment, try not to overlap pulses, as repeated overlapping could cause burning through overexposure. Also, don’t treat the same area of skin more than once per treatment, as this could cause irritation.

For body hair, the first 1-4 hair removal treatments should be roughly 2 weeks apart. The next 5-7 hair removal treatments should be 4 weeks apart.

For facial hair, the first 1-5 hair removal treatments should be about 2 weeks apart. The next 6-8 hair removal treatments should be 4 weeks apart. Treatments 8+ should be as needed until desired results are achieved.

Honest Sensica Sensilight PRO review

I’m impressed with the Sensica Sensilight PRO so far. I’ve used it twice now on my lower legs – my first ever time and 2 weeks later. And I’ve already started to notice some results.

A quick disclaimer, I’m not particularly hairy. My hair isn’t dark, thick or fast-growing, but of course, I still have some hair on my legs. Don’t we all! So I want to target my lower legs in particular, as it’ll be amazing to one day not have to think about shaving them.

Since using my at-home IPL machine, my hair is already growing back more slowly. I’ve not noticed any hairs falling out yet, but I’m pretty confident that will happen.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I had some skepticism as to how well this device would work because I’m not very hairy. However, my hair is already growing back less frequently, and that’s just after 2 uses! I can’t wait to see what happens after my next 4 treatments.

It took me about 5-7 minutes to do my lower legs. I didn’t treat the back of my lower legs, as no hair really grows there. Sensica’s claim to do a lower leg treatment in 15 minutes is likely very accurate if you were to do your calves too.

I love the minimal chic bronze and white packaging. It looks very modern and perfect for an aesthetic Insta feed. The fact that Sensilight PRO is cordless (you only plug a cord into the device to charge it) is super convenient. It means you can use the RPL machine anywhere – literally anywhere – without worrying about whether the cord will be long enough for you to relax on the sofa or bed.

The device is noisier than I expected. It makes quite a loud clicking sound with each pulse. This doesn’t bother me, but it’s something to keep in mind. The pulses are bright, but not so bright that you need to wear protective goggles.

While using the machine, my skin felt slightly warm and a little sensitive. But I didn’t experience any redness or irritation. The whole experience was simple, straightforward and comfortable.

I’m very impressed with the results so far. I can’t wait to keep you posted on how I’m getting on with this IPL device in 6 months!
