As 2023 draws to a close, I’m sharing my final project pan progress update to show how many makeup products I’ve finished this year.

At the beginning of 2023, I committed to finishing 10 makeup products by the end of the year. I’ve shared 3 project pan progress reports throughout the year to update you on my progress.

For those of you who don’t know what a project pan is, it’s where you aim to ‘hit pan’ on a select number of makeup products. It’s designed to help you be mindful of your makeup spending habits and use the products you own. ‘Hitting pan’ means finishing or almost finishing an eyeshadow, blusher or pressed powder. Being able to see the bottom of the case that houses the product shows that you have used the shade a lot. Although ‘hitting pan’ refers to powder products, a project pan extends to any makeup item.

In my project pan 2022, I managed to finish or throw out 9 out of 10 makeup products, which I was super impressed with. I wanted to meet or exceed this target this year. Keep reading to see whether I used up 90% or above of the makeup products in my project pan 2023!

I threw out the MAC Strobe Cream a while ago, as it was far too old. The texture had started to turn weird, so it was time to say goodbye.

Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Professional Eyeliner Pencil in Sable Brown

I finished this pencil eyeliner in the last few months, as it became so tiny that it was impossible to sharpen. I was glad to finish this, as the Victoria Beckham pencil eyeliner formula is my absolute fave, so I look forward to using this more frequently.

Too Faced Damn Girl! 24-Hour Mascara

I chucked the Damn Girl! 24-Hour Mascara out a while ago, as the formula had dried up. This mascara is great for adding more volume to lashes, but I’ve come to realise that lengthening mascaras work best for me.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

The Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray is the OG. I still love this formula and would happily repurchase it. The spray is so good for keeping makeup in place all day. But I’m looking forward to trying new setting sprays next year to see if I can discover a new holy grail.

NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich

The NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich is so beautiful, but it’d been in my collection for far too long and completely dried out. I was forced to throw this out a few weeks ago. But I’d highly recommend this liquid lipstick to anyone looking for an affordable and comfortable lip formula and colour that lasts for hours.

RCMA No-Color Powder

I kind of cheated with the RCMA No-Color Powder, as I didn’t quite manage to finish it. However, I did get really far down the bottle. But I just became uninspired by this product, as it’d been in my collection for ages. I decided it was best to part ways, as I own other setting powders that I much prefer.

Physician’s Formula Super CC Cream in Light/Medium

I’ve probably got around half of the bottle left. I really like the Physician’s Formula Super CC Cream in Light/Medium, but I don’t reach for it as much as other base products in my routine. But, I’ll continue using this in 2024 and beyond.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Taupe

I love the MAC Matte Lipstick in Taupe. It’s a versatile nude brown that works with so many different makeup looks. However, I’ve purchased a staggering amount of lip products this year, so I’ve constantly been trying new formulas. This is still an icon though.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne

I love the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne. I forget how good it is until I use it. This cream eyeshadow deserves more attention. I’ve tried so many new single eyeshadows this year that this one has slipped under the radar for the last few months. I hope to use this up in 2024.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam

The Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam is still fab, but I’ve found myself reaching for more pink or brown blushes this year. This peach blush is very easy to apply, but it just doesn’t have me in a chokehold like it used to. Plus, it’s pigmented, so a little bit of product goes a long way, making it difficult to use up.

Final thoughts on my project pan 2023 update

So, I didn’t finish as many products this year as I did in 2022. But 60% is still a success for me. Especially considering how many new makeup products I purchased in 2023. Seriously, my makeup collection has expanded a lot. I’m pleased with my project pan 2023 progress.

I actually threw out the Too Faced Damn Girl! 24-Hour Mascara very recently. The mascara had become dry and clumpy. It was closer to being finished than I’d initially realised, so this was an expected product that I used up.

Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Professional Eyeliner Pencil in Sable Brown

It may look like I’ve not used up much more of this pencil eyeliner, but it’s so tiny now. After another sharpen this will be unusable. I’ll 100% finish this kohl liner within the next few months.

NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich

I’ve not worn the NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich much at all in the last few months. Thankfully, this liquid lipstick has been at an “almost finished” stage for a while. With more of a conscious effort to finish this lipstick in the final quarter of 2023, I reckon I’ll use it up.

RCMA No-Color Powder

It somehow looks like there’s more powder in the tub now than before lol. But I’ve used RCMA No-Color Powder a fair bit in the last few months, so I know for a fact that I’ve used up more product. I still think I can finish this by the end of 2023. As much as it’s a good powder, there are others I prefer, so I’d like to use it up.

I still love the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. Every time I do a makeup look, I’m sure to set it with this, which helps my makeup stay in place oil-free for longer. I’m down to the final quarter of the bottle, so I’m close to finishing it. I should finish this by the end of the year.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam

At this point, it’s highly unlikely I’ll finish Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam this year. I’ve purchased so many new blushes recently (obsessed much?), so this one has taken a backseat. I still love the formula and shade, but other formulas have taken priority. There’s still at least half a tube left, so finishing this will be a struggle.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne

I’ve probably only used Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne once or twice since my last progress report, so the progress has not been progressing! There’s a slim chance I’ll finish this in 2023. But the formula is gorgeous, so I really should reach for it more.

Physician’s Formula Super CC Cream in Light/Medium

Physician’s Formula Super CC Cream in Light/Medium is a lovely formula, but I’ve got other foundations/skin tints that I’m reaching for more frequently. I have used this a fair few times recently, but there’s still around half a tube left. It’s highly unlikely I’ll finish this product in 2023.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Taupe

I’ve managed to use some more of MAC Matte Lipstick in Taupe since my last project pan 2023 check-in. However, the progress definitely hasn’t been significant. This shade is so pretty and works with so many looks, as it’s a gorgeous neutral pinky-brown that complements a broad range of makeup looks. I’m doubtful I can finish it in the next 3 months, but maybe I’ll surprise myself…

As you can see, my Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Professional Eyeliner Pencil in Sable Brown is even smaller than it was in my previous progress report! This kohl liner is fantastic, but I’ve had it for ages. Plus, the Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner is my new all-time fave pencil liner. I expect to finish this by my next progress check-in.

NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich

NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich is a gorgeous drugstore liquid lipstick. Mine is almost finished, as the wand hardly picks up any product now, and the formula has become quite dry. It’s been in my collection for years, so it’s time to go!

I’m actually pleasantly surprised with how much progress I’ve made with the RCMA No-Color Powder in the last 3 months. Setting powders can take ages to use up, but I’m seriously making my way through this one. I’m confident I can finish it by the end of the year.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam is still a classic. I love this peach liquid blush. However, it’s one of the oldest blushes in my collection, and I find myself reaching for other shades and formulas more often. This is super pigmented, so I’m not convinced I’ll use this up in my project pan 2023.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne

I’ve hardly used the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne. Probably once or twice max. Unless I step it up in the next 6 months, this definitely won’t get finished. I forget how much I love this cream eyeshadow until I wear it!

Physician’s Formula Super CC Cream is another product I’ve not worn much since my previous project pan update. There’s still over half of the bottle left. I love this CC cream, but I’ve been acquiring a lot of base products recently, so I’ve been wanting to try my newness! I hope to finish this in 2023.

As you can see, I’m really making my way through the Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Professional Eyeliner Pencil in Sable Brown. I’m certain I’ll finish this product by the end of the year. It’s a fantastic and super affordable pencil liner. I’d happily repurchase it.

I find it difficult to tell how much progress I’ve made with mascaras. Usually, I can only tell when they start drying out. I wear the Too Faced Damn Girl! 24-Hour Mascara each time I do a look, so I’m hopeful I’ve been making progress. I’m not sure whether I’ll use this up by the end of 2023… Time will tell.

Even though I’ve not made much progress with the RCMA No-Color Powder in the last 3 months, there’s not much powder left in the bottle. This setting powder is excellent, and I’d happily buy it again. But it’s been in my collection for quite a long time, so I’d like to finish it.

I think I’ve worn the NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream once since I started the project pan, which is a very shoddy performance from me. While there’s not a tonne of product left, if I have any hopes of using this product up, I need to start wearing this more frequently.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne

There’s still a fair bit of product left in Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne. This product honestly feels neverending at times, despite wearing it often. But, I’m slowly chipping away at this cream eyeshadow. I still think I can finish this by the end of the year.

Even though I’ve not managed to finish any products yet, I’m still happy with my project pan progress. I’m slowly making my way through each product and will hopefully have finished several more products by the time I share my next progress report.

This is my third time doing a project pan. My project pan 2021 was far too ambitious. I set a goal of finishing 21 makeup products, which I didn’t even get close to finishing.

Setting my sights on using up 10 products seems like a great target for me. It’s a lot of products to finish in the space of 1 year, but it’s an achievable number. This worked well for me in my project pan 2022.

I really enjoy participating in project pans. It helps me work my way through my ever-growing makeup collection and encourages me to finish old products.

The OG Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. This is still the best setting spray I’ve ever used for keeping my makeup in place all day. The spray gives your makeup incredible lasting power. But, this setting spray has been in my makeup collection for a while (you can probably tell lol), so it’d be good to use this up.

2. MAC Matte Lipstick in Taupe

I love the MAC Matte Lipstick in Taupe. This shade, along with Whirl, was my go-to lippie back in the day. However, this lipstick has been in my collection for quite a long time now, so it’s time to finish it. This lipstick thankfully goes with so many makeup looks, so I’m hoping to get a lot of use out of it!

3. Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam

Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam is still such a fab liquid blusher. This formula is one of the OG liquid blushers, before liquid and cream blushers had a surge in popularity in the last couple of years. As much as I still really like this product, I’m reaching for other liquid and cream blushers more, so it would be good to use this one up.

4. Too Faced Damn Girl! 24-Hour Mascara

The Too Faced Damn Girl! 24-Hour Mascara is good at making lashes more voluminous. However, I’ve come to realise that I prefer lengthening mascaras. They seem to make my lashes pop more. I’d like to finish this mascara before it dries out, so I’m hoping I can finish this in my project pan 2023.

5. Physician’s Formula Super CC Cream in Light/Medium

The Physician’s Formula Super CC Cream is a criminally underrated CC cream. The shade range is dire, but the formula is beautiful. It makes my skin look very healthy, smooth, and radiant. But, it’s been in my collection for quite a long time, so it’s time to finish it.

6. Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Professional Eyeliner Pencil in Sable Brown

The Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Professional Eyeliner Pencil in Sable Brown is a fantastic, super affordable drugstore kohl eyeliner. Although it’s not the smoothest eyeliner pencil, it’s still easy to apply this brown pencil liner to my lids. Plus, I love that the brown is quite a neutral shade, as it works with a lot of eye looks. I’ve got a newer brown pencil liner that I prefer, so I want to use up this Rimmel one.

7. RCMA No-Color Powder

I actually didn’t manage to finish the RCMA No-Color Powder in my project pan 2021. Since then, I’ve used a fair amount more of this translucent setting powder. Even though this powder is good, especially for the price, I’ve got ones I prefer. It would be good to finally use this setting powder up.

8. Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Champagne is another product I didn’t finish in my project pan 2021. I’ve used a fair amount of product since then, so I’m hoping 2023 is the year that I’ll manage to finish this cream eyeshadow. It’s incredible, and I’d definitely feel good repurchasing this eyeshadow. However, it’s quite old now, so it’s time to finish it.

9. NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich

I love the NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream formula. It’s dope and affordable. Yep, this is another product that’s been in my collection for too long, so it would be good to use it up. However, I’d love to get more of NYX’s lip creams in the future.

MAC Strobe Cream is a decent liquid highlighter, but it just doesn’t have me in a chokehold like some of my other liquid highlighters. This mini highlighter should be easy to finish in 2023, especially if I mix it in with my foundation.

The start of the new year means that I’ve finished my 2022 project pan. At the beginning of 2022, I committed to finishing 10 makeup products by the end of the year. I’ve shared 3 project pan progress reports throughout the year to update you on my progress.

Taking learnings from my project pan 2021, where I set out a target of finishing a whopping 21 products by the end of the year, this figure was way too ambitious. Finishing 10 makeup products for 2022 was more realistic and achievable for me, as I typically only wear makeup at the weekend.

Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eyeliner – £4.49

I finished this white kohl liner right at the start of 2022. The pencil was small when I began the year, so this was a pretty easy product to use up.

ICONIC London Prep-Set-Glow – £22

I finished this creamy contour stick in my most recent project pan progress report. I love this product, but there are contour products I prefer now. Plus, this contour stick no longer exists, so I can’t repurchase it anyway.

L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara – £10.99

I completely finished the L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara. This mascara was used entirely up as no product was coming out at the end, so wearing it every time I did a makeup look paid off!

Milani Colour Statement Lipliner – £7

My Milani Colour Statement Lipliner became so tiny a couple of months ago that it became unusable! I knew that I’d finish this lip liner in 2022 because it was very small in my project pan progress report #3.

Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer – £24

To be honest, I threw out my Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer when there was still a bit of product left. The formula had become so dry and difficult to blend that it became pointless to use. Plus, it was almost finished anyway – hence the dryness. I knew it was time to throw out this OG concealer.

e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer – £9

I’m really happy that I completely used up the e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer. I wasn’t sure that I’d manage to finish it in 2022, but I finished it in November. This primer is fantastic and great for oily skin, so I’d happily buy this again.

Soleil Tan de Chanel – £43

I didn’t finish the Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream (reformulated and new name). However, I decided to throw it out for a few reasons. 1) I’d used up much of the product, so it’s not like I wasted it. 2) It felt impossible to finish. Even with consistent use, it felt like I made hardly any progress. 3) It’d been in my collection for years, and I felt uninspired using it, so it was time to get rid of it.

Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation – £44

Another product I decided to throw away as part of my project pan 2022 is the Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation. I have a lot of foundations I prefer over this one. Plus I’d had this foundation for years, so I wanted to get rid of it seeing as there wasn’t much product left anyway.

ICONIC London Illuminator – £30

The ICONIC London Illuminator is so pigmented that it’s hard to make significant progress with, as a tiny dot goes such a long way. Although I didn’t manage to finish this in 2022, despite mixing it in with my foundations when doing makeup looks, I still used a lot of the product up. Final thoughts on my project pan 2022

I’m really proud of my project pan 2022 progress.

Even though I threw out a couple of products due to them being old or almost finished, I actually finished a lot of products. I love buying makeup and probably always will. But I do sometimes feel guilty about the size of my makeup collection, so using up products makes me feel good, as it’s less wasteful.

Next year, I’ll definitely roll over the ICONIC London Illuminator as a product to use up in my 2023 project pan. I’ve realised that including products in a project pan that I’m inspired to use, and not only including ones that I find uninspiring and want to be out of my collection, will help me achieve my goals more easily.

I’ve loved doing my project pan this year and can’t wait to select products next year to use up.

Can you believe it’s already my third project pan progress report of 2022?! This year has truly flown by. But, I’m pleased to say that I’ve managed to finish another 2 products in my project pan.

At the start of 2022, I selected 10 products that I wanted to hit pan on by the end of the year. These were items I thought I could realistically finish, considering I only wear makeup on the weekends, at events, or on days off.

For those of you who don’t know what a project pan is, it’s where you aim to ‘hit pan’ on a select number of makeup products. It’s designed to help you be mindful of your makeup spending habits and use the products you already own.

‘Hitting pan’ means finishing or almost finishing an eyeshadow, blusher, or pressed powder. Being able to see the bottom of the case that houses the product shows that you have used that product a lot. Although ‘hitting pan’ originally referred to powder products, it now extends to any makeup formula.

I finished this white kohl liner right at the start of the year. I pretty much always wear white liner on my lower water line, so this is an easy product for me to finish.

Look how absolutely tiny the Milani Colour Statement Lipliner is now! It’s getting to the point where I can barely hold this anymore, so I’m certain I’ll finish this completely by the end of 2022. It’s a great lip liner, though, so I’d happily repurchase it.

Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer – £24

It’s starting to feel like I’m never going to finish this damned Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer! Honestly, it seems like I’ve ‘almost finished’ this for over a year now. Super frustrating. As with my previous project pan updates, the formula is genuinely getting drier and drier. This concealer has been in my collection for years, so I should probably throw it anyway…

Products I’ve made a lot of progress with

e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer – £9

It’s looking less and less likely that I’ll completely finish the e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer. But I’ve truly used most of the product now. This is such a great and versatile primer that I find it easy to incorporate with every makeup look that I do.

Soleil Tan de Chanel – £43

This Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream (reformulated and new name) seems impossible to finish. But I’m slowly getting my way through the product and making more and more dents. I obviously won’t finish this completely in 2022. I think I’ll declutter this old bronzer from my collection regardless at the end of the year, as I’ve had this for far too long…

The ICONIC London Illuminator is so pigmented that it’s hard to make significant progress with, as a tiny little dot goes such a long way. Realistically, I won’t use this up in 2022, but I’ve managed to use at least half of the bottle so far, so I’m happy. Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation – £44

I still think there’s a chance I can completely finish the Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation in 2022. I reckon I’m down to the last quarter of this bottle, so with a bit of extra usage, I might just finish it!

I’m super pleased with my project pan 2022 progress. I’ve almost finished half of the products on this list, with at least one more definite that will be used up by the end of the year. It encourages me to be more sustainable and consider the products in my collection. Love it.

Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer – £24

How am I still managing to get usage out of the Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer?! I feel like I’ve been saying that I’ve “almost finished” this concealer for about a year! The formula is becoming so dry, though. So surely I’m near the finish line… right?

KKW Beauty Crème Contour Stick – £13

I’ve made so much progress with the KKW Beauty Crème Contour Stick! In the last update, one side was completely finished, and for this update, the other side is nearly finished. This creamy contour stick is easy to finish as it dents quickly. This will 100% be done by my next update.

Products I’ve made a lot of progress with

Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation – £44

I use the Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation at least once every weekend. It’s hard to tell how much product is left, but I’ve made a lot of progress with this due to how frequently I use it. There’s still a chance I will finish this foundation this year.

e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer – £9

I’ve actually hit pan on the e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer! In fact, I’m surprised at just how much product I’ve managed to get through in the past few months. This primer isn’t packed to the brim with product anyway, but I’ve still used up a lot. I’m confident I can use this up by the end of 2022.

L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara – £10.99

I use the L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara each time I do my makeup, so this is a simple product to work my way through. The formula is becoming drier with every use, so it probably won’t be long until this is finished. I’m actually excited to finish this, as there’s another mascara I can’t wait to open.

Soleil Tan de Chanel – £43

Even though I’ve been using the Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream (reformulated and new name) a fair bit, I’ve not made any noticeable difference in the pan since my last update, which is a shame. My intention is still to throw this out at the end of the year if I don’t completely finish it due to how old it is.

ICONIC London Illuminator – £30

I mix my ICONIC London Illuminator in with my foundation or in my inner corners for an elevated glowy look. But because this highlighter is insanely pigmented, I find it super hard to finish. There’s still about half a bottle left, so I doubt I’ll finish this in 2022 *cries*.

I’m pleased with my project pan 2022 progress report #2. I used up another product and managed to get seriously close to finishing a few more.

By my next update, I expect to have finished at least 2 more products. I genuinely find project pans really enjoyable to do, and it gives me a target to focus on. See you next time!

Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eyeliner – £4.49

I finally finished the Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eyeliner (which I think is now discontinued or has been rebranded). After a final sharpen, I physically couldn’t hold it anymore, so I had to throw it.

Almost finished products

Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer – £24

My Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer is on its last legs now. The formula is becoming increasingly dryer, and there’s hardly any product left. However, this concealer seems to have a never-ending supply, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I can get a few more months’ uses out of it.

ICONIC London Prep-Set-Glow – £22

I’ve almost finished my trusty ICONIC London Prep-Set-Glow. I’d be happy to purchase this in the future, as it’s a really lovely glowy setting spray.

As you can see, there’s not much product left now. I’ve used up a fair bit since the start of 2022 too. I reckon I will finish this in the next 3 months.

Milani Colour Statement Lipliner – £7

I use the Milani Colour Statement Lipliner a lot. This wearable lip liner works with most lip colours, so I manage to get a lot of use out of it. It’s getting to the point where I won’t be able to hold it soon.

Products I’ve made a lot of progress with

Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation – £44

The Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation used to be a firm favourite. I still really like this matte foundation, but I prefer dewier foundations now, so I want to finish it. I’ve been using the Armani foundation quite frequently, and I’m probably down to the final third of the bottle.

ICONIC London Illuminator Drops – £30

As I mix my ICONIC London Illuminator Drops in with my Armani foundation, I’ve also made a lot of progress with this liquid highlighter. I’ve rediscovered my love for this, as I recently tried it for my inner corner highlight, and it looks AMAZING. Since using this quite frequently, I’ve managed to use up a lot of product. But because this highlighter is so pigmented, it takes ages to finish.

KKW Beauty Crème Contour Stick – £13

I’ve finally finished one side of the double-ended KKW Beauty Crème Contour Stick! It really didn’t take long, as the formula is so creamy that it’s easy to use up. I’ve made a lot of progress with this stick since my project pan 2022 announcement in Jan, so let’s see what this stick looks like 3 months down the line.

L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara – £10.99

Ah, the iconic L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara. I’m very confident I’ll finish this by the end of the year, as I use it for every makeup look I do. The formula is starting to get dry.

Soleil Tan de Chanel – £43

Soleil Tan de Chanel doesn’t actually exist anymore, as it’s since been renamed and reformulated to the Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream. Although I own bronzers in my collection that I prefer now, this original and iconic Chanel bronzer still holds its own and gives a lovely bronzed look.

I hit pan on this product last year, so I’m just trying to get the bronzer down to as little product as possible, as I will be throwing it out at the end of the year. This bronzer has been in my collection for years (don’t @ me!), so I need to declutter it.

e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer – £9

I’ve made a fair bit of progress with the e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer. I think I can finish it by the end of the year. In fact, I’ve actually almost hit pan on this product, as I can almost see the bottom of the casing. This is one of my tried and tested primer faves, so I’m always happy to use this to create a smooth canvas for my makeup looks.

Final thoughts on my project pan 2022 progress report #1

I’m really pleased with my progress so far with my 2022 project pan. I’ve finished one product and am well on the way to finishing a few more products by my next progress report. Although I love experimenting with different products and colours, I’m still managing to incorporate a lot of these project pan products for my looks, so they’re getting a lot of use.

Paired with this year’s makeup no-buy/low-buy, I’m managing to get through my makeup collection, without it continually growing.

Now we’re in 2022, I’m going to be sharing this year’s project pan and 10 makeup products I want to use up over the next 12 months.

For those of you who don’t know what a project pan is, it’s where you aim to ‘hit pan’ on a select number of makeup products. It’s designed to help you be mindful of your makeup spending habits and use the products you own.

‘Hitting pan’ means finishing or almost finishing an eyeshadow, blusher or pressed powder. Being able to see the bottom of the case that houses the product shows that you have used the shade a lot. Although ‘hitting pan’ refers to powder products, a project pan extends to any makeup item.

After selecting 21 products for last year’s project pan, I realised this far too many products for me to finish in one year. A) I find it quite difficult to keep track of 21 products, and B) I don’t wear makeup every day, so hitting pan on 21 products was an unrealistic goal.

This year, I decided to stick with a number that’s still challenging, but that I think I can reach with dedication. At the end of my 2021 project pan, I managed to finish 7 products. My 2022 project pan is a case of using up 3 more products than last year. I’m also starting the year strong with some makeup products that are nearly finished.

Like last year, I will be sharing quarterly project pan progress reports. This helps me keep track of my progress, and you can see how well (or not lol) I’m getting on.

The 10 makeup products

1. Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer – £24

My Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer is a product I didn’t quite finish last year. This shocked me, as it’s felt dried out for months now. However, I’m still getting use out of it, so I will continue to use it until it’s completely finished. I predict finishing the concealer in the next couple of months.

2. Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation – £44

The Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation used to be a holy grail for me. However, I’ve got plenty of other foundations that I prefer now, so I’d like to finish this one.

3. Soleil Tan de Chanel – £43

This iconic Chanel bronzer has since been renamed the Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream. The newer formula is a cream-gel finish, as opposed to a powder, which I think I’d prefer. I’ve technically ‘hit pan’ on this bronzer already, but I want to use it up, as I have bronzers that I like a lot more. If I don’t finish this by the end of the year, I’ll throw this out anyway, as it’s been in my collection for years now.

4. ICONIC London Illuminator Drops – £30

These ICONIC London Illuminator Drops were my first foray into liquid highlighters. I tend to mix these highlighter drops in with my foundation, as they’re a little too dark for my complexion to wear alone.

5. Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eyeliner – £4.49

The Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eyeliner is so tiny now that I can’t see it lasting longer than a few months. I always use this white kohl liner in my waterline to make my eyes look bigger, so this is one of the products in my collection that I genuinely use frequently. I think this one will be finished within the next 3-4 months.

6. L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara – £10.99

Similar to the Rimmel white kohl eyeliner, I use the L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara for every makeup look I do. I’ve been using this mascara steadily for months now, so I’m confident I’ll finish it in my project pan 2022.

7. KKW Beauty Crème Contour Stick – £13 

I’m actually surprised I didn’t finish the KKW Beauty Crème Contour Stick last year. This product is uber creamy, so it’s very easy to dent. I thought this would’ve been an easy one to finish, but I didn’t use it for every makeup look. If I make an effort to use this contour stick for most makeup looks in 2022, I know I can finish it.

8. e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer – £9

Ah, the legendary e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer. I thought I’d include it in my project pan 2022 due to finding it a lot easier to finish creamy makeup items. I’ve also used around half of this primer already, which makes it a bit easier to use up.

9. ICONIC London Prep-Set-Glow – £22

In some ways, I almost feel like I’m cheating by including the ICONIC London Prep-Set-Glow setting spray in this project pan because it’s nearly finished. I’ve managed to get down to the final quarter of this bottle since finishing the Colourpop setting spray from my 2021 project pan. But, the whole purpose of a project pan is to use up makeup products in your collection, so I’m fitting the brief.

10. Milani Colour Statement Lipliner – £7

The final makeup item I’m including in this year’s project pan is the Milani Colour Statement Lipliner. This lip liner is very wearable, and I’ve used about half of it already.

Makeup progress so far

For the products where you can see how much I’ve product already used, I’m sharing some pics below. These are good progress markers to see where I’m at with my makeup collection.

As you can see, a lot of these makeup products have already got a lot of use out of them, particularly the liners and setting spray. The white kohl liner is tiny now. If I do a few more sharpens, I don’t think I’ll be able to hold it anymore. Soleil Tan de Chanel takes forever to make progress on, as powder cheek products are difficult to completely finish.

The creamy contour stick and primer have more product left in them compared to some of the other products in this list, but due to the creamy textures, I think they’ll be easy to finish.

Final thoughts

I’m looking forward to seeing how well I get on with my project pan 2022. Finishing 10 makeup products feels a lot more manageable than last year’s unrealistic 21 products. I’m feeling positive that I’ll finish these products up by the end of the year.
