Gel nail polish is brilliant. Gel colour lasts way longer than traditional nail polish, it dries much faster, and it’s far less prone to chipping.

But the only downside to gel nail varnish is that it can be more of a faff to take off than standard nail polish. It normally takes 10+ minutes of soaking gel nail varnish in acetone to remove the colour. Whereas normal nail polish can be removed in seconds with varnish remover.

The Manucurist Green Flash Pro Pouch aims to tackle this issue with an effective peel-off gel nail varnish that can be removed in 1 minute. Each gel nail polish is vegan and supposed to be kind to your natural nails.

But how well does Manucurist Green Flash work? Is the gel nail polish long-lasting, and is it genuinely quick and easy to peel off? This honest review tells you everything you need to know about this at-home gel nail polish set.

The products in this review are the Manucurist Green Flash Pro Pouch (£125) and Active Glow (£16).

The Green Flash Pro Pouch contains everything you need to do a gel nail manicure at home, from curing your nails through to removing the varnish. It includes a base coat, top coat, nail polish remover, nail clips, LED lamp, cotton pouch, and 2 gel nail colours of your choosing.

Active Glow is designed to care for nails while boosting nail shine. It’s supposed to nourish nails while adding glow instantly.

About the tester

My sister very kindly tested the Manucurist Green Flash Pro Pouch and Active Glow for this review. Her goals from using these gel nail polish products were to achieve vibrant nails that don’t chip easily, are long-lasting, and are effortless to remove.

How to use the Manucurist Green Flash Pro kit

Using the Manucurist Green Flash Pro kit and Active Glow is very straightforward. Follow the steps below to apply and remove the gel nail polish.

Application

1. Apply the Manucurist Green Flash Base Coat to bare nails. Cure under the LED lamp using the corresponding ‘base’ setting.
2. Apply the Manucurist gel nail colour. You can apply 2 layers, but make sure they’re thin. Cure each layer under the LED lamp under the corresponding ‘colour’ setting.
3. Apply the Manucurist Green Flash Top Coat to make your manicure shine and last longer. Cure under the LED lamp using the corresponding ‘top’ setting.

The simple 3-step application process is supposed to last for 10 days with a shiny finish.

Removal

1. Use the Manucurist Nail Polish Remover to soak cotton pads, and apply these to each nail. Keep the cotton pads in place using the Manucurist Nail Clips.
2. Leave for 1 minute, and the nail should effortlessly peel off. If any base residue remains, rub again with a cotton pad soaked with remover.

How to use Active Glow

Using Active Glow is even more straightforward.

1. Apply 1-2 coats on bare nails and let dry.

Manucurist gel colours on the nails

My sister picked the colours Capucine (a hot coral pink) and Victoria Plum (a rich plum). Here’s what the shades look like after 2 coats on the nails.

How gorgeous are the shades?! They look rich in colour. I love the glossy smooth finish. Capucine is my personal fave. The picture on the right is how it looks in person compared to the photo on the left.

The Manucurist Green Flash Pro Pouch is a success.

The curing lamp is really easy to set up with only 2 button options, which makes it intuitive to use. Additionally, the lamp counts down the seconds on a very clear display panel, so it’s easy to see how much time you have left during the curing stage. It’s also very lightweight, portable, and folds away to a compact shape. This makes the lamp convenient to use and perfect for travelling with, as it takes up very little space.

The application of the gel colours is fantastic. There’s a brilliant shade range to choose from. Whether you’re looking for sophisticated opaque white, rich sapphire, everyday beige, or summery apricot, there’s a colour for every mood.

Each colour is easy to apply, delivers rich colour, and cures very well under the lamp. 2 coats are needed for vivid colour payoff but no more. Be sure to cap the ends properly, otherwise, they’ll chip quickly.

The gel nails didn’t last for 10 days either time my sister tried them. However, she doesn’t think she’s quite perfected the technique yet.

The removal process is effortless. The colour melts off in 1 swipe. And you can remove the colour in 1 minute, just like the instructions claim. My sister used 5 cotton pads as there are 5 clips, and 2 drops of the remover was sufficient to do all 10 fingers; she reused the 5 cotton pads.

There is some room for improvement but no major cons. The instructions weren’t super clear that you should paint both hands before curing, as the timer automatically does 60 seconds twice in a row. The LED lamp doesn’t beep when it’s time to switch hands or when the time is up, which would be nice so you don’t have to rely on the timer.

Also, on the final top coat cure, the timer does 60 seconds three times in a row, and there’s no explanation as to why. The instructions don’t clarify either.

Active Glow

The Manucurist Active Glow is also nice. It adds shine, hydration, and a layer of protection to the nail. However, it doesn’t particularly harden your nails like certain nail strengtheners on the market, so just be aware of this.

Is Manucurist worth it?

Manucurist is worth it. The colours are vivid and glossy, application and removal of the gel nail polish is quick and easy, the LED lamp is intuitive and convenient, and the Active Glow adds a beautiful shine to nails.

I’ve tried the Modelones and Pantone Color Institute gel nail kit and Modelones Pink Lipstick Series Starter Kit previously and loved both sets. The colours were rich and vibrant, easy to apply, and long lasting. So I couldn’t wait to try the new Modelones Solid Cream Gel Polish line.

Prior to this collaboration, I’d never tried solid nail polish. The idea really intrigued me. I couldn’t wait to see how well a solid yet creamy formula would work. I’m not good at painting my own nails at all, so if the solid formula was easier to use than a typical liquid varnish, that would be music to my ears!

Solid gel nail polish works just like regular nail varnish! Instead of a runny liquid formula, the texture of the solid varnish is like a thicker cream. Despite the thicker consistency, it’s still very easy to manipulate the colour and get a precise application. The colours may look very solid in the pan, but they’re actually very creamy when you pick them up with the brush.

How to use the Modelones 21 Colors Vinyl Record Solid Cream Gel Polish

Here’s how to apply the Modelones 21 Colors Vinyl Record Solid Cream Gel Polish from start to finish:

1. Ensure any previous nail varnish is removed
2. Trim your nails using a nail clipper and gently push your cuticles back using a cuticle pusher
3. Clean and dry your nails. You do this by filing the surface of your nails using the nail buffer to get rid of any dirt or oil. This step is very important to ensure the gel polish is long lasting. You can also use rubbing alcohol after filing your nails to ensure they’re thoroughly clean
4. Use a nail duster to get rid of any excess dust
5. Apply a thin layer of base coat and cure for 30 seconds to 1 minute under a UV lamp
6. Use the nail brush (which comes with the Modelones solid gel nail polish kit) to pick up a small amount of product. (When first using the brush, loosen the bristles with your fingertips and then run the bristles under warm water for a few minutes to ensure the bristles aren’t stuck together)
7. Using the nail brush, apply a layer of your desired solid gel colour and cure for 30 seconds to 1 minute under a UV lamp
8. Repeat step 7 until you have achieved your desired opaqueness
9. Apply a thin layer of top coat and cure for 30 seconds to 1 minute under a UV lamp
10. Apply a cuticle oil to nourish the cuticles (optional)

It’s a very straightforward and easy-to-follow process!

Modelones 21 Colors Vinyl Record Solid Cream Gel Polish in Cozy Wander review

Below is my honest review of the vegan and cruelty-free Modelones 21 Colors Vinyl Record Solid Cream Gel Polish. I got the colour story Cozy Wander, which contains a mix of neutrals, nudes, blue hues, pink hues, and shimmers for exquisite variety.

Shades

I think the shade Cozy Wander is a very pretty and modern colour palette. Although there are some neutrals and warm shades, the palette is ultimately quite cool-toned.

I really like the colour story. And there are 21 shades to choose from! There are mutiple greys, which are very chic and modern. I love nudes, and there are some stunning pink and peach nudes. The blues are very pretty, and the shimmers are exquisite. I don’t typically wear dark shimmer shades, but some subtle line work using the dark shimmers would look amazing as part of a modern nail design.

As I get my nails done at a salon, I painted my toenails for the purpose of this review. In the photo below, I picked the lightest shade, which is a cool-toned off-white on the second row on the far left.

I’m still not great at painting nails (as you can see lol), but I think it turned out pretty well. I applied 4 coats of the shade to build the colour up. The colour is cute. It’s not my favourite, but I wanted to go for something different. I think it looks nice!

I wish this colour was a bit more opaque, as it took time to layer. However, light colours tend to be quite sheer, so they take some building up for opaqueness.

Quality

The shades are very high quality. They’re creamy and true to the colour in the pan. I found layering my solid polish effortless. The application wasn’t patchy or streaky.

I think these shades are just as good as the traditional liquid gel varnishes I’ve tried from Modelones in the past. In fact, I think I prefer them! I’ll explain more as to why in the “ease of use” section below.

Ease of use

I found the solid gel shades incredibly seamless to apply. Because the cream texture in the Modelones 21 Colors Vinyl Record Solid Cream Gel Polish is less runny than a standard liquid varnish, I had more control over the application. I made fewer mistakes and didn’t have to worry about making a mess with a liquid consistency.

Also, I loved how easy it was to pick up and smooth the colour over my nails. The application was seamless using the small brush that comes with the vinyl. It’s a foolproof process. As someone who is definitely not neat when it comes to painting nails, this was a very welcome surprise!

Lasting power

Honestly, I’ve only just applied the solid gel nail polish, so I can’t comment on how long the varnish will last. However, all of my previous Modelones varnishes lasted for weeks without chipping, so I expect the 21 Colors Vinyl Record Solid Cream Gel Polish will be the same!

Convenience

The Modelones 21 Colors Vinyl Record Solid Cream Gel Polish is so convenient to use. 21 shades are neatly packed into a compact case for you to pick from whenever you fancy.

If you travel a lot, this solid cream nail varnish set would be perfect. It’s very lightweight, gives you a tonne of shade options in 1 convenient location, and you don’t need to worry about and spillages or leaks. The creamy consistencies will stay neatly in their pans until you’re ready to use them!

All you’d need to take with you is a UV lamp, base coat, and top coat. Then you have 21 shades to pick from whenever you want while you’re on the go!

Affordability

One of the best things about the Modelones 21 Colors Vinyl Record Solid Cream Gel Polish is that it’s very affordable. It costs £24.84 for 21g of product (21 x 1g).

This is very purse-friendly when you think about how much money it would cost to purchase 21 separate varnishes. Sure, you might not get as much product in the pan compared to a liquid varnish, but this solid varnish set will honestly last for ages!

How to use the gel nail kit

After unpackaging your cute Modelones x Pantone kit, here’s how you apply the gel nail varnish from start to finish:

1. Trim your nails using a nail clipper and gently push your cuticles back using the cuticle pusher.
2. Clean and dry your nails. You do this by filing the surface of your nails using the nail buffer to get rid of any dirt or oil. This step is very important to ensure the gel polish is long lasting. You can also use rubbing alcohol after filing your nails to ensure they’re thoroughly clean.
3. Shake the desired nail varnish to thoroughly mix the gel.
4. Apply a very thin base coat to the nail and cure under the UV lamp for 1 minute.
5. Apply a thin layer of gel polish to the nail and cure under the UV lamp for 2 minutes. (IMPORTANT: if you’re going to use the Cat Eye Magnetic Stick, DO NOT cure your nails after applying a layer of gel polish. Instead hold the magnetic stick close to the gel polish – without pressing the stick onto your nails – for about 1 minute, and then cure under the UV lamp).
6. Repeat step 5 to get the opaqueness you want.
7. Add nail decorations using the tweezers (optional).
8. Apply a very thin layer of top coat to the nail and cure under the UV lamp for 1 minute.
9. Remove any gel residue using a damp cotton bud.
10. Apply a cuticle oil to nourish the cuticles (optional).

The whole process is simple and straightforward. You’ve got everything you need in the gel nail kit to do your own nails at home. The only item not included is rubbing alcohol, but this isn’t an essential step. I personally skipped it.

My thoughts on the Modelones x Pantone Fierce Gel Polish Kit

Below is my honest review of the Modelones x Pantone Fierce Gel Polish Kit, including the shade range, quality of the products, how easy it is to use the products, affordability, and my favourite shade from the kit.

Shade range

There are 6 amazing and sophisticated shades to choose from in this gel nail kit:

• New Maroon: a rich wine red
• Raspberry: a pretty vermillion hue
• Satin Chemise: a soft and light pink-toned gold
• Racing Red: a bold and dynamic crimson
• Sterling Lavender: a light shimmery lilac
• Sparkling Fuchsia: a jewel-like confident purple

There is a mix of warm and cool tones in this collection, and they all scream luxury and opulence. I think the colour story works well for a glamorous evening collection, which is exactly what Modelones intended with this launch. I’d personally wear every single shade in this collection.

Quality

Again, I think the gel nail polishes in this collection are high quality. I actually think they’re better quality than the varnishes from the Modelones Pink Lipstick Series Starter Kit because the formula isn’t quite as thick or gloopy. This makes it easier to apply a thin, even and smooth layer to your nails.

The lighter shades require a bit more building, especially Sterling Lavender and Satin Chemise as these are particularly light. However, after 2-3 layers, you easily get opaqueness, so this isn’t an issue.

For a mini UV light, it sure is powerful. It cures nails really well, and I’ve had no problems with my polish chipping, smudging or not drying properly. All of the additional tools work really well too. I’m yet to try the Cat Eye Magnetic Stick or nail decorations, though.

I’m really impressed with the quality of the Modelones x Pantone Fierce kit.

Ease of use

This at-home gel nail set is very easy to use. The kit contains everything you need to do gel nails besides a nail clipper, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. After I’d removed my previous gel nail polish, the whole process took me around 20 minutes, which included nail preparation.

The benefit of gel nail varnish is there is no drying time once you’ve cured the polish with a top coat under an LED lamp. Simply cure and go!

Lasting power

As with the nail varnishes in my previous Modelones review, these new ones have incredible lasting power. They don’t chip, smudge or become dull over time. This aspect of the Modelones x Pantone collection is particularly comparable to nail salon polishes’ lasting power.

Favourite shade

My favourite shade from the Modelones x Pantone collaboration is Satin Chemise, which you can see below:

I love the gorgeous pinky-undertoned champagne shade. It’s the perfect shade for the festive period too, with Christmas rapidly approaching. I actually think this is a really unique, chic and modern shade. It would look beautiful with the gold nail decorations included in the set too.

Convenience

One of this kit’s best selling points is its convenience. With a portable leather bag and mini UV lamp, this set is travel-friendly, lightweight and easy to use on the go. It doesn’t take up much space, and you can house all of your nail essentials in one place. If I wanted to do my nails abroad, this is 100% the kit I’d take with me.

Affordability

For $46.99 (£34.95), the Modelones x Pantone Fierce Gel Polish Kit is amazingly priced. It’s a total bargain when you consider how many good-quality items you’re getting to enable you to do gel nails at home. Going to a nail salon once would almost cost as much as buying this entire set, depending on where you go. So, this at-home kit could save you a lot of money in the long run, particularly if you get your nails done every month.

My thoughts on the gel nail kit

Below is my honest review of the Modelones Pink Lipstick Series Starter Kit, including the shade range, quality of the products, how easy it is to use the products, affordability, and my favourite shade from the kit.

Shade range

There are 6 pink-toned gel nail polishes included in this starter kit. There are 3 light shades, 2 medium shades, and 1 dark shade. I tend to prefer lighter and medium shades, so this kit very much appeals to me. I don’t see myself using the darkest shade, but the other 5 shades are all very me.

As this is a pink gel nail varnish kit, I think the shade range is great. 2 of the lighter shades are a bit too similar, in my opinion. A pinky-brown shade would’ve been a great addition to the set instead of one of the lighter shades.

If pink isn’t your vibe, you could get the purple gel nail kit instead. Plus, Modelones sells a lot of different gel nail polishes, either in sets or as singles. The shades are stunning, and I’d love to pick up more colours. No 8 is really speaking to me!

Quality of the products

I genuinely think the products in this nail kit are of good quality. Sure, they’re not luxurious or high-end, so the professional brands in nail salons are going to be better. However, I’m impressed with how well the products perform.

The nail varnishes are very pigmented. For the lighter shades, you’re probably going to need 2 coats, but for the medium and deeper shades, just 1 coat is fine. The formula is quite thick – too thick to be honest – so just be mindful when applying the nail varnishes not to get too much product on the brush, else it will become messy. If you go in with a light hand and wipe some of the excess varnish back into the pot, you’ll get wonderful results.

The nail file, LED lamp, base coat, top coat, nail brush, dual-ended spatula, and cuticle oil are all great. I’ve got no complaints with any of them. Even though the UV lamp is small, it’s still powerful. I actually like that it’s small, as it means travelling with it is more convenient and lightweight.

Ease of use

I found the kit easy to use. The instructions are clear, and the whole process took me about 20 minutes from start to finish. If you’re good at painting nails, you’ll definitely be able to get it done in about 10-15 minutes. I’m terrible at painting nails, so it takes me ages to neaten up the edges lol.

Lasting power

These gel nail varnishes are very long-lasting. In fact, this is the aspect that has most impressed me.

I painted my toenails about 3 weeks ago, and the gel hasn’t chipped whatsoever. The colour hasn’t faded or become discoloured, and my toenails still have that new, glossy sheen to them.
