Tatcha The Water Cream is a lightweight and hydrating moisturiser. Although it looks quite rich, it’s very absorbent and doesn’t feel greasy. It’s perfect for oilier skin types, as it helps control excess sebum and makes skin feel smooth and balanced. It’s healthy, moisturised skin in a pot.

About make p:rem Hydrate Me. Micro Tension Cream

The make p:rem Hydrate Me. Micro Tension Cream is designed to strengthen the skin barrier and restore elasticity. It’s lightweight, non-irritating, and very hydrating. The moisturiser delivers a plump and dewy complexion. Expect deep and long-lasting nourishment.

The comparison

Price

The Korean dupe wins on price. It costs £34.41 for 65ml. And YesStyle frequently has discounts on products, so you can pick it up for way less!

On the other hand, Tatcha costs a £67 for 50ml or £93 for 75ml. It’s very expensive. make p:rem is around half the price for even more product!

Packaging

Honestly, Tatcha wins on packaging. It’s heavy, feels expensive, and looks beautiful. It photographs like a dream. Even down to the light turquoise pot and contrasting gold lettering and dainty gold spatula, it’s utterly gorgeous.

make p:rem is a lovely soft blue and comes with its own spatula. The spatula is bigger than Tatcha’s, which is may more convenient but not as cute. Although it’s more lightweight than Tatcha, it’s still got some weight to it, so it doesn’t feel cheap.

Ingredients

The dupe’s INCI list is considerably longer than the luxury brand. However, they share some of the same notable ingredients. These include the emollients dimethicone and lecithin, dewy propanediol, hydrating glycerin, hyaluronic acid derivative sodium hyaluronate, and more.

Tatcha The Water Cream incorporates soothing saccharomyces ferment filtrate, the humectant diglycerin, the antixodiant green tea leaf extract, soothing cladosiphon okamuranus and belamcanda chinensis root extract, and more.

make p:rem Hydrate Me. Micro Tension Cream features the humectants 1,2-hexanediol and glycereth-26, the emollients caprylic/capric triglyceride and cetyl ethylhexanoate, nourishing macadamia integrifolia seed oil, and more.

Texture

These moisturisers have fairly similar textures, which you can see in the photo below.

Both are very light and spreadable. They almost have a gel consistency with how easily they’re absorbed by the skin. They have a watery texture, but Tatcha is a bit thicker and richer than p:rem.

How they feel on the skin

Once applied, there really isn’t that much difference between the moisturisers.

Tatcha feels a bit more nourishing and luxe. It makes my skin a bit more radiant overall. make p:rem feels more soothing and refreshing. It absorbs a bit faster than Tatcha and feels very quenching.

But ultimately, when I apply 1 moisturiser to 1 side of my face and the other to the other side, I can’t really tell that I’ve applied 2 different products.

Effectiveness

And now for the most important test of all: do these moisturisers deliver the same results?

Genuinely, yes.

Both moisturisers deliver long-lasting hydration. By the end of the day, I can’t tell that I’m wearing 2 different moisturisers. My skin feels comfortable, moisturised, and fresh after 8 hours of wear.

They play well other skincare products thanks to their watery textures, which means I can layer hydrating toners and glowy serums without the moisturisers feeling too rich for my oily skin.

Both products deliver a non-greasy finish. My oily skin loves this, as the moisturisers allow my skin to breathe. As they’re both so lightweight and absorbent, they work very well as skin prep for makeup. Base products simply glide over the top, without any pilling.

Honest thoughts on Tatcha The Water Cream Dupe

make p:rem Hydrate Me. Micro Tension Cream is absolutely a worthy dupe for the Tatcha The Water Cream. It delivers the same results as the expensive moisturiser at around half the price for more product!

Both moisturisers are perfect for oily skin, feel non-greasy and hydrating, deliver lasting moisture, and offer very similar textures.

While these moisturisers aren’t identical, both are highly effective, and there are no noticeable differences between the 2 when they’re on the skin. So it’s a no-brainer that make p:rem takes the win, as it’s way more affordable!

Heimish wins on price, costing £18.51 for 120ml. It’s frequently on sale at YesStyle too, so you can get this at an even lower price! Clinique Take The Day Off is £30 for 125ml, which is a lot pricier.

Packaging

Both cleansing balms come in plastic packaging. Despite offering similar amounts of product, Clinique’s pot is smaller than Heimish. However, Heimish is lighter.

Clinique features an attractive purple pot with a contrasting silver lid. Heimish is white with a pretty floral design on the lid. The dupe also comes with a spatula, which is handy for scooping out the balm.

Ingredients

Besides the emollient ethylhexyl palmitate and the texture enhancer polyethylene, the cleansing balms do not share any of the same ingredients. The Heimish All Clean Balm has a longer INCI list overall.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm features the emollients safflower seed oil, peg-5 glyceryl triisostearate, and caprylic/capric triglyceride. It’s also enriched with tocopherol, a common form of vitamin E with antioxidant benefits. The balm is free from fragrance, both perfume and essential oils.

Heimish All Clean Balm incorporates the emollient cetyl ethylhexanoate, skin-softening cleansing agent PEG-20 glyceryl triisostearate, nourishing shea butter, skin-conditioning coconut fruit extract, fragrant lime and jasmine extracts, and skin-soothing edelweiss extract. There are plenty of other fragrant essential oils in this INCI list.

If you’re sensitive to fragrant, synthetic or natural, Heimish is a cleansing balm to avoid, as there are a lot of fragrant ingredients. The scent is also potent – think sweet floral citrus – so just be mindful of that if you’re not a fan of perfumed skincare. I personally love the smell of the Heimish cleansing balm!

Texture

Despite both being cleansing balms, there are some differences in texture.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is firmer, thicker, and waxier. Heimish All Clean Balm is thinner, silkier, and balmier. While both turn from a balm to an oil, Heimish has more slip and melts more effortlessly than Clinique.

Effectiveness

Both cleansing balms are very effective. They’re perfect for my sensitive and oily skin, because they’re gentle, non-stripping, and don’t feel greasy or heavy.

Clinique takes longer for the balm to break down and melt across the face. But it still easily removes makeup, SPF, dirt, and oil. It rinses away effortlessly and leaves no greasy residue. After using it, my skin feels clean, fresh, and hydrated.

Heimish makes removing makeup, sunscreen, dirt, and oil seamless because it simply melts away. You don’t need to put in any work rubbing the balm around your face, as it turns into a spreadable oil that dissolves lingering products so easily. It rinses away quickly with no greasiness. After using it, my skin feels clean, fresh, soft, and nourished.

I genuinely prefer the Heimish dupe, because it makes my skin look radiant and feel super smooth.

I think the Heimish All Clean Balm is a great dupe for the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm.

While these 2 cleansing balms aren’t identical, when it comes to performance, Heimish offers all the benefits that Clinique does at a way more affordable price point.

It still offers a balm-to-oil texture, feels gentle, leaves skin feeling clean and hydrating, and dissolves makeup, SPF, dirt, and oil without any problems.

It just goes to show that you don’t need to spend lots of money on high-quality and effective skincare that perform like your fave luxury brands.

The price points of the moisturisers are very similar. iUNIK offers slightly better value for money, costing £14.87 for 60ml. Neutrogena retails for £14.25 for 50ml. But YesStyle frequently has discounts online, meaning you can pick up the iUNIK cream for much less.

Packaging

The moisturisers have quite different packaging. Neutrogena comes in a typical pot, which is made from glass and 100% recyclable. iUNIK comes in a squeezy tube.

iUNIK is more hygienic and you can easily control how much product comes out, while Neutrogena provides the satisfaction of seeing how much product is left in the pot. Which packaging is better depends on your personal preference.

Ingredients

This is the key part when looking at skincare dupes: how do the INCI lists compare? iUNIK has a much longer INCI list, but let’s start with the ingredients that feature in both moisturisers.

Both contain the emollient dimethicone, the hydrating hyaluronic acid derivative sodium hyaluronate, and the humectant ethylhexylglycerin. But that’s just about where the similarities end.

Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Gel Cream is enriched with hydrating glycerin, water-binding trehalose, the emollient dimethiconol, cleansing agent sorbitan olivate, among others.

iUNIK Centella Calming Gel Cream features some more standout ingredients, like antioxidant superstar centella asiatica leaf water, soothing tea tree leaf extract, the humectant butylene glycol, and niacinamide, which is a powerhouse ingredient that reduces the appearance of enlarged pores, regulates sebum production, improve skin texture, and make skin more radiant.

Texture

These 2 moisturisers offer different textures.

iUNIK is a typical gel moisturiser. It’s thicker than a serum but is lightweight and highly absorbent. There’s no greasiness or creaminess.

Neutrogena is more like a traditional moisturiser. Despite being called a gel-cream, this is a very lightweight cream formula that melts quickly into the skin.

How they feel on the skin

The iUNIK Centella Calming Gel Cream feels so nice on the skin. It’s cooling, calming, and feels like a quenching drink for the skin. You can feel instant hydration, and it absorbs almost instantly. It’s super comfortable and doesn’t make my oily skin feel greasy. It doesn’t pill and works beautifully with other skincare products. Thanks to its very lightweight formula, you can easily layer multiple serums under this moisturiser without it feeling too rich.

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream also feels lovely on the skin. It’s richer, nourishing, and hydrating. Despite being creamier, this moisturiser is still lightweight and very absorbent. There’s no greasiness, and it feels comfortable on my skin. This moisturiser would be great for makeup prep, as it makes your complexion feel smooth, soft, and supple, so makeup would glide over the top without clinging to dry patches or texture.

Effectiveness

Honestly, these moisturisers are highly effective. I put iUNIK on one side of my face and Neutrogena on the other, and I could hardly tell any difference.

Both kept my skin equally hydrated throughout the day and gave my skin the same glow. They felt light, refreshing, and nourishing. They worked very well with other products in my skincare routine, with no pilling and greasiness.

As for the differences, there’s only 1: iUNIK is noticeably more soothing, while Neutrogena is richer.

Honest thoughts on the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream dupe

While not identical, I think iUNIK Centella Calming Gel Cream is a pretty good dupe for the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream. They deliver excellent hydration that lasts all day and leaves my skin feeling comfortable and non-greasy. Both make my skin feel plump and look dewy. You wouldn’t be able to tell that I’m wearing 2 different moisturisers!

I use iUNIK in the day, as the gel formula works really well with other skincare products and means I can get away with layering more serums. Neutrogena is a lovely night cream option, as it’s a thicker and richer, so I can apply it liberally without worrying that I’ll look oily. 

iUNIK is my fave. If I have a rosacea flare-up, it instantly soothes my skin and visibly reduces any redness. Plus, I love how refreshing it feels on my skin. It’s an absolute winner!
