Hi! I’ve been wanting to up my skincare game, but can’t afford to buy all the different types of products at once. What would you suggest to add first or what order would you suggest adding steps? Thanks!

1) Wouldn't applying face mist before vitamin C serum dilute the vitamin C serum, making it less or not effective at all? And I have read elsewhere to not apply vitamin C serum on damp skin because of what I just mentioned.
2) Moreover, I apply vitamin C serum before hyaluronic acid because dermatologists on youtube (like Dr. Shah from Doctorly) say the lighter serums should be applied before the heavier ones.
I am interested in knowing what you think about this?

I love this post, it's been really informative. In my night routine, I cannot live without using my squalene oil as my last step. My skin is always so nourished in the mornings when I use it.

That makes sense. I definitely think you can use oils over moisturisers because they do act as a barrier to lock in moisture and this is a step that you could definitely play around with in the evening. I think in the daytime, though, putting on a facial oil and then an SPF must feel super sticky?

You're right, though, a lot of it is about finding out what works for you. In my eyes, an oil then a moisturiser would feel more comfortable, but if someone else finds that putting on an oil last is better for them, they should ignore me altogether lol

Ohh so interesting to see your take on this topic - I agree with most of this except for the order of applying face oils. I always read that oil acts as a barrier to lock in moisture below to prevent things like trans-epidermal water loss and that oil molecules tend to be larger than water molecules, so water-based products applied over top (like other moisturizers or night creams) may not actually absorb into the skin! But I have seen others prefer applying oils before creams, so some of this comes down to what works for different people's skin types! But I fully agree with the importance of double cleansing & not using makeup wipes!

This is actually super helpful. One of the reasons I keep a simple routine is because I’m not always sure of what to do in a full routine. Thanks for the reminder to always apply SPF - something I try to do because of you!
