I finally found an excuse to use this cute pic

I’m so happy to be writing another one of these ‘get to know me’ style blog posts. Not only do I love reading other people’s, but they’re also really fun to write. Plus, it’s important to share a bit about yourself online so your readers get to know more about the person behind the blog.

I was tagged by the wonderful Jenni over at Housewife Hustle in the Bet You Didn’t Know Tag. She created the Bet You Didn’t Know Tag to give her readers the opportunity to learn a bit more about her, and to be able to engage with her audience on a deeper level by sharing 7 random facts about herself.

She also tagged 7 other bloggers so they can share 7 random facts about themselves with their readership too and I was one of the people she tagged. Thanks so much, Jenni!

So, in today’s post, I will share 7 random facts about myself. In the same spirit, I will also tag 7 other bloggers in the Bet You Didn’t know Tag at the end of this post.

Let’s dive in!

7 random facts about myself

1. I work full-time as an editor and content writer

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m so happy that I work in the job field that I set out to work in. I’ve always loved writing and editing seems to come pretty naturally to me, so to have become a writer and editor for my job at 23 makes me proud.

I’d definitely say I’m a better editor than I am a writer. However, my job consists of me writing and sharing news, which means I’ve learned how to write in a completely different style. Plus, I now have my own magazine, which is pretty awesome!

I’m excited to see where my future takes me in the world of writing and editing.

2. I’m scared of wasps and blue whales

Wasps have always terrified me. I know nobody likes wasps, but they put me off going outside in the summer and I will actively avoid places where I know there will be a lot of wasps. Especially eating outside.

I went to Thorpe Park once and a wasp chased me for a few seconds and I cried for about 20 minutes afterwards. I was 19.

And no, I’ve never been stung by a wasp. I don’t allow them to get close enough to me because if I see one, I get out of there. Fast.

Blue whales also freak me out. They’re just so massive. I don’t like that their mouths are bigger than people, it makes me feel unsettled. And those pictures of blue whales compared to humans… No thanks.

3. Mushrooms make me feel sick

I actually like the flavour of mushrooms, so I enjoy a mushroom sauce or soup, or if they’re chopped really finely in a dish, I can manage them.

But it’s just the slimy texture of them that puts me off. So I hate it when mushrooms come in chunks as part of meals. I’m not a fussy eater whatsoever but even the thought of mushrooms is making me feel queasy.

I accidentally ate one a few weeks ago and I felt off for the rest of the day. It’s like I could feel it sloshing around in my stomach. Yuck.

4. I have arthritis

This isn’t something I’ll go too in-depth within this post – I’d probably need to dedicate at least one blog post to talk about the ins and outs of my condition – but I have arthritis.

I have an inflammatory type of arthritis and it affects both my knees and my left ankle. However, my left knee has always been the most problematic.

It is an autoimmune disease which means that my condition isn’t defined by the wear and tear of my joints, but is rather categorised as periods of flare-ups where my condition is worse, and spells of remission, where my symptoms are more manageable.

It was really bad at one point. It was so painful that I’d often wake up crying in the morning and I wasn’t sleeping very well because I just couldn’t get comfortable in bed. I also really struggled to work and get out and about. I distinctly remember that when my arthritis was at its worst, I thought I’d become housebound because of how limiting it became.

However, after going onto medication, I’m happy to say that my condition is completely under control and I don’t have any symptoms now. It took quite a long to get that point, but I’m here now, and that’s all I ever wanted.

5. I love playing video games

I mentioned in my 73 Vogue Style Questions post that The Last of Us Remastered is my all-time favourite video game, but I love gaming in general. I remember the days where I’d constantly be on Crash Bandicoot or Spyro.

Although I enjoy a lot of different genres of games, my favourite type of games are the ones with a strong narrative. For that reason, Naughty Dog is my favourite games developer, closely followed by Rockstar Games.

The game that I fell in love with most recently was probably Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m not ashamed to say that it made me cry.

6. I’d love to become a makeup artist or a skincare expert

I love makeup and skincare, hence starting this blog, but I’d love to take my passions a step further.

I’m definitely not talented enough to become a makeup artist. Or not talented enough to make it big, anyway. But I do love playing around with different colours, products and looks, it’s just so much fun. It’s also interesting seeing how it can change your appearance.

Although, remember not to rely on makeup to make you feel beautiful or worthy (more on that in my ‘A thought on makeup‘ blog post).

Being a skincare expert appeals just as much as, if not more than, becoming a makeup artist. I already know a fair bit about skincare, so it would just be a case of building on my existing knowledge. We’ll see what happens!

7. I’m obsessed with making lists

For anyone that knows me, this fact will not come as a surprise.

I make lists for everything. My philosophy is that if you’ve written your thoughts down on paper, you don’t need to keep them in the back of your mind because you now have a handy list to refer to.

Here are some of the current lists I have:

  • Birthday present ideas *cough cough*
  • Makeup and skincare brands/products I want to try
  • Clothes I need to purchase
  • Blog post ideas
  • Daily to-do list
  • Weekly to-do list

Lists just make me happy. They help me feel organised and settled. I used to be very forgetful and would rely on my mum to remember things for me, but once I introduced lists into my life, that all changed.

I’m probably a bit OTT with lists, but they’re a great habit to get into,
