And it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting!
This week, I wanted to do something a little bit more light-hearted for the blog and decided to count all of my makeup products, from foundations and lipsticks through to brushes and eyelash curlers.
I counted everything because:
- It was fun and I wanted to see the results myself
- I needed to throw out any expired/unwanted items
- I could see which areas I have a lot of products in and what areas are lacking to determine what to purchase in the future (lol, like I need a reason to buy more makeup)
The more makeup products I have, the more I find myself wanting to spend more on more makeup. Stupid, right? I just really like buying and trying new things.
But now I’ve tallied everything up, I’m hoping I can try and curb this habit and stop spending so much.
In total, I own 202 makeup products.
From this, 151 are makeup items, like concealers and eyeshadows, and 51 are beauty tools, like beauty blenders and eyelash glue.

What I threw out
I chucked out my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade because it was just about to run out and I bought the Dipbrow Gel in its place. I’ll have a blog post providing a full, in-depth review of the Dipbrow Gel coming out soon, so watch this space.
I also got rid of 10 different lipsticks which had either expired or I just didn’t wear. My mum works at Boots, luckily, and a lot of the lipsticks I owned were testers that I’d accumulated over the years, so it was time that I went through them all and decided which ones to keep.
I’m not sure if owning just over 200 makeup products is bad or not. I personally don’t think it’s that bad, but I was expecting this number to be much larger, which is probably why.
One thing is certain though – I don’t need to buy any more lipsticks! I probably still will because I love lipsticks and there’s a huge variety in shades out there, but lipsticks are an area I should cut back on.
Another blusher and setting spray won’t hurt my collection though, so they’ll be products I’ll look to purchase. I recently finished Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray, which I absolutely adore, so maybe I’ll buy this again.
All in all, this was a fun experience and has illuminated some of my makeup purchasing habits!
Plus, I got rid of some old products that had expired or I never wore and that felt great.
