Valentine's Day makeup look image

As Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, I wanted to create a makeup look for the event inspired by soft, pretty colours.

I’m not actually a big fan of Valentine’s Day, I think it’s a big money-making scam that is designed to make people spend lots of money on overpriced food and gifts. It can also leave people who aren’t in relationships feeling pretty bad.

However, I love seeing Valentine’s Day inspired makeup looks because they make use of soft pinks, purples, reds and browns to create a more sultry look.

In this post, I talk about the products I used and how I achieved this simple makeup look.

For my face, I didn’t want to overdo it and look too heavy. I used the Giorgio Armani Maestro UV Makeup Primer for my base alongside the Giorgio Armani Power Fabric foundation. This foundation gives a lovely airbrushed finish without looking cakey or heavy, which I thought would complement a Valentine’s Day makeup look perfectly.

I then used the Revolution Conceal & Define concealer under my eyes to brighten that area up and over any blemishes or spots that I had. After that, I used my Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzer (always) because it’s the only bronzer I wear and I love it because it’s so buildable.

For my highlighter, I used the Revolution Soph Highlighter Palette – I chose the shade on the top row of the palette to the far right as this is a very soft, natural shimmer. It was actually my first time using this palette and I was super impressed with the pigmentation and the palette only costs £8 (£1 for each highlighter shade), which is an absolute steal!

For my eyebrows, I used my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade because honestly, what else are you going to use for your eyebrows? It’s totally worth the hype. I always use a smudger brush to soften certain parts so my brows don’t look so heavy and there are no harsh lines.

For my eyeshadow, I mostly used my Huda Beauty New Nude Eyeshadow Palette because the eyeshadow shades are geared towards being soft, sultry and romantic. It was the perfect match for a Valentine’s Day look!

I applied the same Revolution concealer over my eyelids for the base and then used the shade Bare from Huda’s palette for my base shade. After, I took the shade Tickle and applied this to the outer corners of my eyes and into the crease to add some depth. I did the exact same thing with the shade Secret, but I also applied this to my lower lash line.

I then used the white shimmer from my Morphe 35R palette all over my lids to add a soft glow to my eyes.

One thing I’d been dying to try for ages was a smudged eyeliner look using eyeshadow. I’d seen a few people do it and really liked the soft, smokey effect it gave, so I decided to give it a shot.

I took some dark brown shades from the same Morphe palette and applied this to my lids exactly how I would with normal liquid liner. I then blended it out and kept adding more product. I repeated these steps until I had my desired look.

Here’s how it turned out:

It gives a much softer look than liquid liner and I was really pleased with the overall look, it made my eyes look much sultry.

To top off my eyes, I just used the lavender shade from the Soph x Revolution highlighter palette in the inner corners to make them pop.

For my lips, I wanted to go for a soft pink look with a bit of gloss to keep in line with my romantic theme.

I used my Sephora lip liner in the shade Deep Beige and wore an Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in the shade Petal. Petal is hands down one of my favourite lipstick shades ever because it’s incredibly natural and goes well with anything.

To top it off, I used the NYX Lip Lingerie Gloss in the shade Shy. This was my first time using this lip gloss and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t that impressed. It wasn’t particularly glossy or shimmery and it left me wanting more. But, it actually worked well with my Valentine’s Day makeup because it was very understated.

Finishing touches

To finish off my makeup, I added some of Charlotte Tilbury’s Full Fat Lashes mascara and put on my Ardell Demi Wispies. The Demi Wispies are a cult fave and with good reason, they’re cheap, very easy to apply and give such a lovely look – I cannot recommend these false lashes enough!

Finally, I used the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray to hold my makeup in place. I never believed that setting sprays worked until I tried this out and it’s literally the holy grail; if you haven’t checked it out, then you certainly need to.

And that’s everything! I really liked the romantic makeup look I created and it was something a bit different for me as it was subtler and more understated.

What are you doing for Valentine’s Day this year? As always, I’d love to hear from you and maybe you’re boycotting the event like me lol
